Let it be known that only people in cold climates grow beards.
And actually Anderfels has dangerously hot summers and is mostly an arid place.

It's not like he/she suggested that Kolgrim might be a companion or something like that!
[REDACTED]
Odd, I could have sworn I'd read that the Anderfels was cold, my mistake.

With names like Weisshaupt and Nordbotten and Hossberg, it might be mistaken for being equivalent to Germany.
Which explains why Duncan does the voice over at the end of DA:O, his zombie is doing it!
I figure it's a new warden from the Anderfels, it's pretty cold up there so beards are probably pretty common.
edit-Nuloen-All the Fereldan Grey Wardens died (which were the only ones that Alaistar knew) we saw mostly Orlesian Grey Wardens in II I believe
Actually Alistar mentions that there is an order in the Free Marches so its likely them we met along with our Amarathine hang overs from the new Freleden Grey Wardens.
Also got to agree I've always pictured the Anderfalls as a colder climate with pine forests.
As for the topic, I actually think that would be a nice side to tie in to the first game.
Let it be known that only one Warden in Thedas's history had a beard.
Let it also be known that it can't be the same person because.....

I don't really remember that though I could be wrong. I always saw Stroud and his crew as well as the grey wardens from Amarathine as Orlesian, I believe Anders states that the reason he fled to Kirkwall is because there wasn't a Grey Warden outpost in the area, though they were patrolling the deeproads area as shown by the end of Act I.

There's a good chance that Alistair's friend has already gone on his Calling. I can dig up the source if you like, but David Gaider even said that the whole "thirty years after the Joining for the Calling," wasn't entirely accurate. It's a maximum of thirty years after the Joining. The Calling takes even less time to happen in times of Blight; some Wardens do go on their Calling after 5-10 years from the point of their Joining. Willpower also has a lot to do with it, but even then, the strongest willed Warden will succumb to the Calling in time. So I have my serious doubts that Gregor is even alive.
Reaching, but I can't say you're wrong either. Time will tell.
I don't remember alistar saying gregior he was close to when the calling would take place. And if he is close to dying it wouldn't be the first time we've had a near death companion in a bioware game.
Regardless, even if it isn't him I won't mind, but I just don't see why there is a need for all the viciousness.
Alistair may not have known how close or far Gregor's Calling was but in any case, that was a decade ago in game time. Gregor could very well be off to his Calling by now. Since we haven't talked to Alistair much since the end of Origins, we don't know how many ties he kept to the Grey Wardens. While I thought that Gregor sounded like a helluva nice guy, this bearded Warden might not be him. The more Senior Wardens seem to have a thing for epic facial hair.
As far as the venom towards the OP, I have no idea why folks are reacting like that. It's a perfectly fine topic and beats another robes/skirts debate or Cullen thread.
A Better theory is he's *Gasp* a new character we've never heard of or seen before
Perish the thought. ![]()
I'm hoping for him to be a new character. Although knowing how BW likes to dig through their lore, who knows, maybe it is that Gregor guy.
I wish they would just tell us who the companions are, already!
If you look closely at this concept art:
You can see the Gryphon emblems on his knees and then in this one:
You can see he has plumes coming from his helmet. This can only mean one thing: He is none other than Merrill's hypothetical pet baby gryphon, Feathers! I can't say for certain that he is... only that this is the most likely explanation of his origin.
Let it be known that only people in cold climates grow beards.
And actually Anderfels has dangerously hot summers and is mostly an arid place.
and even arabians grow beard
fact:every one with neandertals ancestors grow beard ![]()
thats why africans dont grow beards

how do you know that?
he could also hear it from another warden and then just said a little lie so it would sound better and more believable
but as op said hes from Anderfells

He says he doesn't really know anything about the Grey Wardens in other lands. He says there's plenty of Orlesian, probably some in the Free Marshes, and he knows there's some at Weisshaupt, but he has no details.
Edit-Who's from Anderfells? Anders is but he wasn't who I was talking about there, Alastair is and he's from Fereldan.
I think it's a bit far-fetched, sorry OP.
From Alistair's description I actually imagined someone who looked a bit more like Hagrid (from Harry Potter) than that guy pictured, but that can be a matter of perspective. We're getting someone else's description after all.
There are only four tankards of ale on the table, each belonging to one companion. It's not like he is in the act of drinking anyone under a table. Rather they're all listening to the elf chick and reacting accordingly.
Okay, So I was playing DA:O and I was in camp talking to Alistair about the Grey Wardens. During the conversation he talks about his time with the Grey Wardens and in the conversation he brings up a certain 'Burly Warden with a Big Fuzzy Beard' and how he drank all of them under the table. He also goes on to give us the name of this Warden: Gregor or Grigor hailing from the Anderfels.
Now I know the Wardens died at Ostagar, but Alistair never specified where exactly he met this Warden, nor whether (If he was in the battle) died or not.
Also I know that he isn't a confirmed companion, but from what I've seen in Pre-Alpha game play footage, he seems like the real deal of being a companion. But then again I could be wrong...
But to the point, I'm wondering if anyone else has actually made this connection and actually thinks the description of the man fits the character in the image below (NPC or Possible Companion):
i thought this a while back but people said he died at ostagar so i moved on. but anything is possible it is bioware after all
IDK who he is but based on the concept art alone, I'd climb him like a tree.
Gads, I hope that concept art turns into at least one cut scene. It would be awesome to kick back with a couple companions and just let them goof off.
So Stroud putting on 60 pounds and growing a beard is a better theory?
Isabella between DA:O and DA2:

So he has a beard and drinks ale? Marvelous deduction. Surely, there is no other explanation! There is absolutely no other Grey Warden with a beard. Nope. Absurd to even ponder.
Okay, no, sorry for the snark, but this theory seems rather far-fetched. But who knows? It's just a bit of a weak lead to go off on.
(And that's hardly a large, fuzzy beard.)
A bit unrelated but is that picture in the first post by Coelasquid? (And what on earth is that elf describing)
