Has anyone had the chance to watch the new series with Neil deGrasse Tyson yet?

I think the first episode is available online here for US viewers, though I can't verify this since I'm in Canada.

It's also up online here for Canadians.

Enjoy!  ^_^

I've yet to watch the first episode, but I do have it recorded. I think they couldn't have picked a better host for the reboot.

I liked the bit where the condensed the entire life of the universe into a single calendar year.

Saw it.  Very nice.  Reminded me of the original.  I consider watching this show mandatory for all humans as a basic educational source.

It's fine I guess, but from the very first words on, you know it's not poetry. Cosmos was poetry.

The pace feels off, the tone is different, too grandiose and yet too mundane. It's like a children's story.

The narrative is a bit jumbled, it doesn't flow very well. Going from the stars suddenly to Giordano Bruno and back again.

I don't know, maybe this style is appropriate for current times and I certainly can not fault Neill for not being Carl, but I do feel underwhelmed.

I watched it on Sunday. It's really fascinating stuff, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson makes the information easily understandable.

I agree that it's not poetry. When I first heard about this remake a few years ago, I was both excited and concerned. It's a great idea to update Cosmos for a new generation, but it's impossible to ever live up to Sagan's version. You simply can't replace him. He was unique. His delivery and enthusiasm is what sold the show.

And let's be honest here: The science is not what people remember about Cosmos. What sticks with them is Sagan's inspiring explanation of the philosophy and wonder of science. That is what makes the show timeless, regardless of its outdated science. I love Tyson, but I can't help but wonder if it was worth updating Cosmos when, like I said, the science was never the ultimate point. Not everyone wants to become a scientist, but everyone should be in awe of the universe in which we live. Sagan's Cosmos already achieved what this update is trying to achieve, and I doubt it will succeed. I strongly recommend watching the first episode of the original series and comparing it to the first episode of the new one. Even the music is better. And notice that it's longer because of the lack of commercials.

First episode wan't bad and thought it was a good start. Might be one of those shows that takes two or three episodes to get in a flow.

I know I'm always amazed and in awe when I look at pictures from space. Wishing I could go there or there. Then knowing our space program needs a serious kick in the butt as we need to go out there and not sit on this rock anymore. Now to put my hopes on corporate entities to get it going.

or maybe we can find some alien base on Mars to get us jumpstarted like in ME. Minus Reapers of course :)

I had my doubts but first episode was really nice.

Loved the little story about Giordano Bruno and the homage they paid to Carl Sagan by the end of the episode. :D

Plus, the 1980 version presented it's stories using live action sequences with sets and real actors.

Now it's all cartoons.

It's hard to beat Carl Sagan, but I think that Neil deGrasse Tyson was an excellent choice for being the host.

I watched the second episode today and it's just getting better. I'm greatly looking forward to the rest. It's a refreshing change of pace from what regularly plays on tv now days.

I liked the second episode a lot too. But the part about visiting Titan kind of seemed out of place to me. But overall, another great episode
