Just started watching it and I'm loving it, he really manages to capture that sense of wonder in space and evolutionary history.

The cartoons are a bit hokey and I could do without his magical ship zooming everywhere, but it manages to present scientific ideas in a very approachable, clear and captivating way.

Loved the first one but was not happy with the third, hope it gets better.

I saw the 4th episode last night but was disappointed.
Why do they keep showing science that has already been shown by others many years ago and most people should know by now?
They should show some of the new sciences and possibilities that are new to us and not treat us like schoolboys or schoolgirls.

I think you are missing the intent of the series. Both the current reboot and 1980 versions of the series are meant to have a broad appeal, and introduce science to the masses.

Specifically because many people...DON"T know this science that 'everyone' should know by now, even the basic principals. (what was it, 20-some percent of Americans still think the sun revolves around the earth? I mean come on.....grade-school level stuff and 1 in 5 people don't know this?!?!)

Cosmos is not a science show for the hard-core science geeks (come on....it airs first on Fox).....it's a science show to get non-science or general-science people more interested in science. Or introduce them to ideas that they didn't know.

After the first episode.....I heard a lot of people where I work saying "Wow! That Cosmic calendar thing was cool!" And I work in an office with lots of science/engineering based people. They hadn't been exposed to thinking about time, and our place in time on a grand scale.

Sure, many people should know that if you shine light through glass you get a spectrum of color (an episode 4 example). But another big part of this series is to show the history behind these discoveries, as well as shine a light on scientific thought using these examples.

Well, the "Trends that must Die" thread was locked because of some idiot posts, so I'll say it here - I really wish they would post some of the scientific equations that go into these theories on the screen. Ok, they did post Pythagoras' equation for the hypotenuse of a triangle, but that doesn't count! Everyone knows that one already. Through the Wormhole does the same thing, lotta special effects, but no actual equations.

This is a trend in popular science shows that needs to end. Special effect are great, but they need some more meat on the bone.
