I guess it's always subject to personal interpretation, but in that situation, it probably would not have hit me to make such a comment while someone is weeping over his son's corpse.

Yeah well, that's why the option is there clearly marked as a joke. You know joking in that situation is a terrible idea, so if you click to joke then that's on you. It's by far the harshest option available at that point xD

I like Diplomatic or Sarcastic for Act 1.. At least if you're not a mage. Then you're just a fresh off the boat kid who lost their home and Carver, and trying to lie low. If you're a mage, it makes sense to me to just go full gusto like Anders. Already brewing up Revolution in your mind off the bat.

One of my favourite Hawkes changed dominant tone every act. Aggressive in act 1 from living in a small village, fighting at Ostagar and then arriving in an unwelcoming city. By act 2 she had mellowed and learnt some manners, so I went with the diplomatic tone. And as act 3 rolled along she was trying to keep people smiling in the chaos - snark personality.

Thought it worked very well =)

Yep, sarcastic Hawke has his funny moments. For example, when talking to guard number 2 (next to Liliana) in Chateau Haine:

"I have been stung by a BEE!!!" -- [...] -- *falls to his knees and looks dramatically in the sky* "Tell them I died in Chateau Haine!"

I have don't a playthrough with a predominantly Snarky Hawke. I say predominantly because I don't choose the sarcastic options all of the time. Sometimes they're just not appropriate.
