So apparently throwing cluster nades at spawn is skill and fun but doing same with cain mines is cheesy and lame..

lol, did you look at the damage values on Cain Mines?

Psst, they only do like 8000k damage versus armor over a nine mile radius.

I'd exempt the Sticky Grenades from this. Their terrible radius makes sure you need to land them with pinpoint accuracy or use them on big and slow armoured targets.

I hope more grenades in the next game make a move towards this model.  It would definitely help with their balance if their damage numbers are to stay at a similar level.

There's kind of an art to cluster nades if you do it right.  Whoosh by your enemies, bank them off of the wall and then keep runnin like the wind.  They have to be placed strategically sometimes, while cain mines specc'd for radius are a guaranteed  killstreak at least once a wave.

 

Cain mine spam has been tested in solos/duos and is always faster and easier than using cluster nade kits.  That said, I agree with what others have said about playing what's fun, this is a game after all.

Really, if you want to balance grenades, start with Grenade Capacity Gear.  Grenades were pretty balanced before Grenade Gear.  Make Warfighter and Shock Trooper add +1 grenade and make Grenade Cap Gear so it adds +3 grenades instead of +5.  Or maybe even make it an Uncommon that adds +2.  Then add some other "hybrid" gears that add +1 grenade and some other bonus like shields, melee damage, general weapon damage, etc.

OK. But start with nerfing TC. And do something with Flamer - blinding is really annoying.

 

PS. I do not use cluster nades or cain mines at all. But I will use Asari Grenadier chick as often as I please and honestly do not take a rat f*** about "skill" or "lame". 

 

PSPS And honestly, I rarely see the kit in the field - far less than TGI.

Well yeah, I would say laying trip mines that can attach to any surface and waiting for enemies to come through them is a bit easier then throwing bunch of bouncing little bastards at spawns. Especially on open maps. But I don´t consider neither cheesy or lame.

TC is beyond redemption. It has to be scrapped and remade from scratch. No amount of reasonable nerfing will fix its ridiculousness.
