Marethari only thinks that way because of the stupid Shemlen who scared her into it. His name was Duncan (lol) and he said it was a Tevinter artifact. Then destroyed it. This is all not true, as we find in Witch Hunt. The Tevinters stole these from elves.

Marethari and the rest of the clan is so traumatized by Tamlen's (and if you didn't play a Dalish) and Mahariel's death, that they don't know how else to think. They were influenced by an outsider, and they defer to the Keeper. Merrill is the one who goes with you to see Duncan.. and both you and her can question him about the Eluvian. He's dismissive, and that's that. That's why Merrill keeps pushing the issue years later. Something was off about it.

I've played the origin, just not the main game. Marethari believes that they don't understand it, and that they shouldn't understand it. Merrill believes they should. It really is that simple, and has nothing to do with some misguided belief that the mirror is really Tevinter. The lore Merrill picked up to try and rebuilt it came from her own clan, after all.

You really need to play the origin.

When was the last time Dalish cared about human input?

Even if did they care about human input, he's wrong. The writers themselves made him wrong with Witch Hunt.

And they also showed the minor amount of "blood magic" it took to fix the thing. Yet Merrill gets crucified for doing so by her clan. "It's like I'm worse than the blight", as she says.

The whole thing is tragic misunderstanding.

On a sidenote, some of the discoveries you can make would only improve the elf/human relations. Curiosity doesn't always kill the cat. Heh

The Arcane Warrior would be an eyeopener for an elf. You found out that ancient elves and humans worked together in those ruins, for some reason. And they were attacked by someone else. Something happened that created a big rift between these people, and discovering why would benefit either side.

I think the actual result would be propaganda. The entire Dalish culture is based off the idea of historical antagonism between themselves and humans, with humans as a threatening "Other" that, in their religious/spiritual lives, is basically the reason they're not living in paradise.

I want to play one for exactly these reasons. Part of all the games was discovery.. Especially DAO, I think. You uncovered quite a few mysteries. Eluvian, Arcane Warrior spec, etc.. In addition to outsider mysteries. The Ashes, the Anvil. And since DAI is going to be a bigger world, I'm hoping a lot of exploration is back. It might be really fun for an elf. Especially a "First"/Keeper/Keeper's apprentice.

Yes, discovering the deeper mysteries is very interesting and half the fun of the games.  What I want is more of an idea of who the Dalish are NOW.  I want the broad strokes of their day to day lives, I want to know the lore they take for granted.  I want to know what my vallaslin mean before I choose them.  I would like to feel more like I know my character's culture.  I have the same concerns with the qunari since I gather we won't be of the Qun.  I just worry that I'll have the same issue as I did in DAO, and I won't be able to connect with my character.

Err...

Fine. You can say that too. :P

If anything, I think elves have nothing to hang on BUT lore. It's the center of their focus. Why would they treat it in such a petty manner? It's like saying someone who's devoted their life to basketball doesn't really give a crap about basketball.

I would support more info on the Dalish in general. Especially the ancient Dalish. I'm still hoping somewhere down the line we'll discover Arlathan. I'm so greedy.

I'm pretty sure Marethari's fear of the Eluvian has nothing to do with what she thinks the ancient elves thought of it. She just thinks it's dangerous to the Dalish now, and should be forgotten.

Also, I'd say most Dalish culture and their animosity with humanity is derived mostly from the ages following the fall of Halamshiral. The days of Arlathan are important but less directly relevant to their everyday lives. But the reason they travel around and avoid humans is because they rejected human rule after they lost the Dales, and they can't stay in one place for too long without drawing trouble. Not because they believe humans stole their immortality.

And I don't think that Imshael was trapped inside the Eluvian network. I think the Viernhen Clan just summoned him from the fade into the spirit trap.

I think this would be a killer idea   Considering the amount of time I played Dalish, Id be pretty interested, also it would prolly make me feel a little safer ^_^ . Example: Guys who dont speak a lick of Chinese, go and get a Chinese letter tattooed on them because the artist said the latter means "Badass" in Chinese, BUT as far as our unsuspecting tattoo recipient knows, the word means "Fail". This is just an example mind you, those with the "Fail" tattoos please take no offense B)
