Oddly, we’ve been told that “flashback” like sequences to franchise/lore canonical events are not out of the question.

This is goddamn brilliant idea. I hope this happens.

The important thing is that the next ME won't be a mmorpg to protect my balls.

I really hope the romances will be better than they were. I want to be able to romance more gay ladies than just one or two.... and also hopefully the straight male protag won't have 6574568679 romances again than the rest of straight female and gays.

*ps, the new forum is so awesome and much easier. It was about time. :D

That's actually a very good point. If the game is to focus on exploration, or even offer it to the player, the story has to support it. Exploring as Shepard would be silly as he/she always had some vital mission and no reason to explore. If the writers want people to get immersed in a story and want the players to explore, they need to give the player the motivation to do so and and avoid constantly giving the motivation not to.

Fortunately, this sounds like it's the plan.

Most of that seems pretty obvious.  The one that has me concerned is that new species will play a major role.  One thing that has always bothered me about Mass Effect is how important humans have become in only a fraction of the time of other species.  But I can get that, people want to play human characters and they want to be important.

But new races popping up out of nowhere and being major players in the galaxy?  That has horrible writing written all over it.  One of the things I'm looking forward to the next Mass Effect is seeing how a galaxy that has been almost completely destroyed rebuilds itself, I don't want to see some random race come in and be like "lol we in power now bro"

Humanity discovered the Mars ruins in 2148. The First Contact War happened in 2157. We got an embassy in 2165 and we got a sit in the coundil in 2183. It's a 35 years span. If you think this is horrible writing, then the whole franchise is flawed for you from the beginning.

We don't know how many time will pass between ME3 and the next ME. If humanity became a council member in 35 years, why other species can't play a major hole in the galaxy in 50, 100, 200... maybe 1000 years, we don't know. Another detail is that humanity got there when things was working normally, now we are talking about a galaxy that just suffered a full scale war.

Not sure why anyone is saying this is "new" information, as literally all of it is known.

1. Again, already stated and logical.

2. Also already known and supported by art releases

3. Again, already built in, already a known quantity based on tweets, sales and legacy

4. Again every piece of art released has pointed directly to this, not even kinda "fresh".

5. Pretty obvious that there are going to be new races. I'm going to make a bold never before attempted prediction and also hazard there will be new guns and new armor too. *is psychic*. Again concept art has already shown new gear and guns, and now that there are no longer the same type of animation constraints, umm OF COURSE there are going to be new races, it's a new trilogy.

6. Yeah, the updated human and what looks suspiciously like asari armor with built in suit weapons kinda gives it away. Or gave it away already.

7. Again, not really a stretch of any type. NPD Sales already support this, well before the game's window.

8. Again looking at BF4 and DAI, puts this in the "well duh" category with or without PAX errata.

"fresh" and "second time affirmed" are two completely different things.

Nothing surprising here, but I'm quite hopeful and happy about everything that's been "leaked" if true.

Especially if the next game is set post-Shepard trilogy.

Aslong as we can explore on foot and not stuck in vehicle the entire time fine. The mako was ok but driving through mountains over and over got old real fast. I hope the project fire walker abomination from ME 2 never returns.

Honestly aside from the weak armor, I always preferred the Hammerhead.

I like the Mako but it definitely needed to be tweaked.

I liked being able to drive around a planet's surface, and always hoped the sequels would've added the ability to get out of the Mako and have considerably more interaction with the environments.

I can't say I enjoyed the Hammerhead at all. The only part of ME2 I can't stand.

I'll never understand the hate for the Hammerhead. Is it the armor? the overall design? Controls were fine to me. Given how far in the future this takes place, anything with wheels seem to be antiquated lol.

You know what I want for ME4?

I want certain choices that make it impossible to win the game. (This is never going to happen. Modern gamers can barely sustain dying 20 times in the same section, let alone deal with certain choices making their game a default game-over in a much later state of the game)

If I walk around with my gun pulled in a civilian area, I want people and the autorities to react.

If I'm a Xenophobe, and act like this in public, I want the aliens in other locations to react accordingly. That they have prior knowledge of my shitty ass morals

If I'm a womanizer all throughout the game, at least one of my female companions should start hating me, possibly even leaving the crew. (asuming a male hetorosexual protagonist)

HELL, I want my crew to actively disagree with certain things I do and take action, and not continue like everything's fine.

You get the deal, I think.

I have no idea how hard this is to implement.

All doable and probably not brutally hard to do, however what would you personally do if you acted like that and they made it impossible?  Would you turn the machine off and start over or would you reload and avoid that line of action?  i am not opposed at all to some of the things you suggest but you have to have enough sublte warnings to the player before hand so they can correct things otherwise some things become player traps and those are no fun.

I remember restarting Crono Trigger after I found out I didn't do something that you have to do in like the first hour of the game. If you don't, Crono is dead and you won't get him back. You get no warning of this at all. If I hadn't looked it up online, I probably wouldn't even have known it was avoidable.

This is one of my favourite games of all time. And yes, really, in the first hour of the game. Else the protagonist dies.

(it doesn't make the game impossible to beat though)

I'm not against subtle warnings, not at all. I´m fine with that. I just don´t want that anything I do is without consequence. There should be WRONG choices, not just choices.

Ah, that's... not true. You can return to 1000 AD and the fair will still continue in that timeframe for the entire game. Just so you know next time. :P

One of many threads on the net referencing players acquiring the doll after that incident.

I wouldn't want a default game-over But I would like certain choices to give us a bad ending. Make the good ending something hard to achieve. a certain set of choices required to have a chance at the good ending.

So would you see this as being of the ilk of the saving of both races in ME3?

There are quite a few checks for that to be possible and on my first playthrough I very nearly wasn't able to save both though to my relief I was just barely able to. Depending on the setting something of that huge a magnitude might not be possible (and I really don't want to have to make a decision like that again) but something similar can happen. A combination of a few obviously impactful choices through the game ultimately leading to a tragic end at a plot point. That could work.

I suppose so, though I believe most of that has to do with decisions/loyalty in ME2 rather than decisions in 3. I don't want it to be obvious on what choice(s) led to the supposed bad outcome either. Make it so afterwards we go... "Umm WTF did I do wrong?" lol

Well then things would have to get wrapped up rather well in the end, right? If not it could become really hard to figure out what jerky move you did caused the sky to fall. That, or the thing that happens has to be rather specific so you don't have to go through ageain tip-toeing around. Looking it up would be cheating, heh.

Much as I luckily dodged that bullet by generally enjoying ME3's ending post-EC, I can't help feeling any instance in which players remotely get that sensation in any way with the next installment is probably thin ice, considering how many of them can't escape that angry question when they see the credits roll.

I know it's technically apples and oranges but frankly they're both fruit and right now BioWare could do with some washing-off of that particular basket.

What I always found disappointing was how during the entire trilogy, it took a lot more work to get the bad endings then it did to get the good ones (Suicide Mission, for example). Make the best ending something very hard to achieve, something you don't just ''Pick Paragon to win'' for the entire game. Make us think
