That's the thing that gets me:

People act like the mages are the only ones who are unjustly oppressed and are therefore entitled to freedoms the average Thedosian doesn't even have.

Where are all these social rights crusaders for the peasants,Casteless and City Elves?

They are Sers-Not-Appearing-In-This-Game. Because those social issues don't have any sort of prominent center within the game; more importantly, there's no organized effort working to change anything aside from Bhelen and maybe one or two Warden options, and those never really come to anything after DAO ends.

Um, we are going to Orlais while the City Elves are rebelling. They are definitely appearing in the game and will have a prominent center.

But this has nothing to do with Anders.

I think you have it wrong, despite being on an interesting path.  I would recommend thinking of both Anders and Justice as being Anakin Skywalker, if I were to use your metaphor.  In Dragon Age: Awakening, Anders was a "carefree" rebel mage on the run and Justice was a "carefree" spirit that was only concerned with his spiritual duties.  In Dragon Age II, both were in the process of being corrupted by one another into something new and horrifying by their shared hatred of the injustice that mages suffered.  I think our "Darth Vader" is the result of that union.  It is neither Justice nor Anders, yet both at the same time (even without Ander's body).  Anders taint and Justice's spiritual power twisted one another so completely, that neither were sure where one ended and the other began.

Vengeance may be coming in Inquisition and I think we should all be ready for it.
