I personally hope for some of the elements in that old FPS build before the MP was switched to cooperative, most notably the opportunity to fire a mako cannon at PUGs.
What would you want to see in the next muliplayer?

A better netcode and a tweaked RNG. Tweaked RNG - I'm fine w/ the "lottery" system for attachments/gear, but I think you should be able to buy w/e bloody gun you want, even if you have to "level it" once you get it. The rest can stay, with w/e improvements/changes they want.

More phalic shaped weapons e.g. brillant surge
Lower ultra rare drops (e.g. 1% as they should be really ultra rare)
Explosive ammo 4
No male characters
More screen overlays that hurt your eyes e.g. more hunter mode
Enemies can grab you over counters and insta kill you

Fewer kits - more variety/powers per kit.
Instead of like now having 5 separate asari (for example), each spamming their few powers over and over, why not have it be a single species character: choose tech/biotic/combat specialism - select up to 5 individual powers for your character. Have build templates to store several builds for one character.
Would function more like mmo character slots than how it is now.
Essentially at the moment everything is too spread out and all kits are too shallow.

Obviously first and foremost better net code.
No omni-button.
A player to player trade system or get rid of the RNG store all together.
No punishment for using power oriented kits/casters. (No bubbles of denial, no seeker swarms, faster velocity to projectile powers, enemies who have their backs to you can't dodge powers.)
It would be fun to have a game with an actual objective other than hurr durr shoot stuff and run around. Something like having to disable an enemy AA gun, secure radar facilities, assault a compound or board an enemy ship.
Also with reports that the next Mass Effect will run on the Frostbite engine, I think destructible environment is a must.

More cosmetic customization options
Less RNG in manifest progression
Either new game modes or the ability to customize the existing one

I'm ok w/ the hoard mode, I honestly think it'll be that much more PUGstrating if you had a mission-based game where everyone had to actually pull even weight....though, it could be a lot of fun in private games, so I think perhaps it has it's place.

A more customizable difficulty.
To use ME3 as an example, you have 4 difficulties, each with its own enemy stats and wave composition. What if you were allowed to mix & match the two as you pleased?
Hate boss rush but Gold is too easy? Play with Platinum stats & Gold waves.
Love boss rush but you're not good enough to try Platinum yet? Play with Silver stats & Platinum waves.

Larger and more interactive environments. More integration with story (and no, that doesn't mean sacrificing ANYTHING of SP for it).
Personally wouldn't mind PvP. And that astonishes me, as I'm rarely a PvPer in anything.

I'd like the option for a more horde-like mode, a la Gears of War. What they've got is pretty close, but with more waves it would be even more epic. And really, if they're going to pursue MP in earnest they might as well develop multiple game types to choose from. I like what they have now because I've always preferred co-op. PvP gets to be too frustrating for me. I hate losing and I don't have the time to make myself good enough that I'm not always aggravated. But plenty of people would enjoy it. Might be hard to pull off keeping the playing field equal with so many unique character builds and classes to choose from, but it would be epic if they did find a way.

Need more intricate missions. Need multiple Actual missions to complete. If the game tells me I am infiltrating this area, then I want to actually infiltrate something, not just kill 7 waves and sometimes go sit in a circle. You know, have the team SEARCH for a room with data, defeat the entrenched defenders, unlock the door, hack/defend the room, escape the room. Different room every time, like 10-15. Different strategy (enter/hack/escape method/route) every time. Maybe there's a backdoor, maybe it's locked, maybe it's fused this time, maybe after hacking another mission immediately starts. If I am defending a town, then I want to actually feel like I'm defending something. Make things for the enemy squads to overtake and/or hold, then make me stop them, and have them act like they are defending, not just automatically know where I am and slowly walk in my direction.
Need larger maps with sequential/locked areas opening for different missions. One mission might be: to open the next area, whether that specific area be a choice or a given. Non-fixed, alternating evac zones.
Need Cerberus to use shield generators (like the tool tip says). Need Synthetics/collectors to use ... synthetic/collector centric equipment and strategies.
Netcode you guys? That is the limit of your imagination? That's like asking a food company to improve the quality of their foodstuffs. Of course they are going to try and improve it.

No Omni button. Sprinting could easily be mapped to L3.
Character Creation System.
Minimal to no RNG. Especially if there is no way to trade. In ME3, getting everything up to gold is annoying but doable. URs are irritating because they are completely RNG.
Resistances need to be worked on a lot. Biotics should be physic marvels.
Ammo types should not be powers or consumables. They should have their own mod slot with their own benefits and penalties.
Open up weapon modding more, but give each piece pluses and minuses. Like extended mags would be +50% ammo per mag, but -20% cooldown due to weight.
Horde mode and a mission mode.
More deployable stuff like a Cerberus turret, shield pylon, generator, etc... for both players and enemies.
More powers for enemies. Give them biotics, let them sabotage our weapons, dampen our powers and let us do that to them. Maybe then I might carry a backup weapon. ME3 has too much emphasis on damage.
