Starting up a Soldier run and I am debating whether to go with the Kestrel chest piece, or the Capcitor chest piece. I like the extra weapon damage from the Kestrel piece, but the Capacitor piece might speed up the fights a bit since I wouldn't need to be in cover as long.
What other preferences for armor mods do you have for a Soldier? For other classes? Generally I end up with the Kestrel stuff, except for the helmet where I choose the Kawashi Visor for esthetic reasons.
When I play ME2 I go with the Kestral armor set
The playthrough I did recently, I played an adept and used the Blood Dragon Armor to add 10% power damage(might be 15%)
If not Vanguard I usually choose the capacitor plate. But in all honesty I've never really noticed much a difference with the armor choices in ME2. A notable exception is the strength boost shoulder pads. Combine with various Kestrel bits and there is a noticeable improvement in melee damage. This is useful if you are into CQC.
^Yeah I go with form instead of function. The bonuses start to become very minuscule relative to all the researched upgrades by mid to late game. Shield recharge is pretty good though, as is the Storm speed bonus, especially if you are a Soldier. And Strength Boost shoulders are pretty good.

Isn't a storm speed boost redundant for a Soldier? You already get that out of your passives. Add in Adrenaline Rush and you are already running really fast. I liked the Storm speed boost for the Sentinel since it allowed me to close the distance quicker, but I just feel it is rather supperfluous for a Soldier.
For functionality I would go with the Capacitor plate, the weapon damage and shield bonuses are fairly miniscule as those bonuses are additive (+3% compared to ammo ~60%, weapon ~50%, and class bonuses ~15%) while you can notice a change with the shield recharge speed. However, if you like to melee Kestrel is still pretty good.
Aesthetically though, I always go with Aegis Vest as it as that nice bulky Soldier quality to it.
