Wouldn't it be interesting to re-create the NWN2 engine in Unity? Maybe add turn based combat, square/hex grid movement, true FoW, better controls, but with the same API and scripts, &c. Just speculating about the possibilities... :)

Speaking of Unity, there are some free assets that might be worthwhile trying to import. Example: medieval buildings. They are in FBX format, and there's a Blender plugin for that.

i don't think that the community is big enough or has the needed skills to give a whole game birth from scratch. the community module never saw the light of day, and there already was a similar attempt years ago. back in those days the engine was ogre and the idea never formed. besides, i would rather see those countless hours spend creating a similar experience to temple of the elemental evil.

Good point. I was mostly thinking it would be nice to be able to port over the modules and campaigns to a new engine.

Well, there are tools to port NWN2 modules into the Iceblink Engine...  It does have turn-based combat, fog of war, and grid-based movement.  SoZ-style party chat and skill checks, too!

Oh yeah, I remember that. Hmm, it's interesting to think about, and a ToEE-like front-end engine would be pretty cool. Perhaps even like the Wastelands 2 engine? We'd need a small army of developers to have a shot though.

I would certainly like a ToEE engine with an easily moddable architecture and toolset.  And interface.

a TOEE like engine and toolset would be possible with the right team in place. Creating the maps would be the biggest challenge (was the biggest hurdle for IE mods). I am about 75% completed with my Iceblink port to Android so I/we can port our NWN2 modules to Android and sell on the Google Play store for $0.99 each  :P . I'll release Lanterna as a freebie to see if their is any interest in story focused, turn-based, party-based, party chat type systems.
