I like to see my friends have what they want from life, but I'm afraid we'll be standing on opposite sides of the fence for this one, Lost.
You won't be alone.
Honestly, I'm surprised how many in this thread agree with us. Maybe there is hope.

Personally I would like to have playable races something like turian, asari, human and maybe quarian.
However if I’m stuck being human then I want more agency to diversity my character like being able to pick whither my character is military or a mercenary, they like alien or is a xenophobe like the council or hate the council if they are good or bad, they like the alliance or hate it.

I would prefer if the main character is just an explorer who is finally sent on his biggest mission yet -- explore uncharted space. As for playable races, Humans, Asari, and Turians are a must. My own personal desire is to play as a Drell. Quarians are hard to say as I have no idea what the future of Mass Effect holds for them. Would they even need suits anymore?
As for Krogans, I'd love to see it, but I don't see it happening. Their body type is too big and an entirely different voice actor would be needed. Asari and Drell have humanoid figures, which pre-existing human armor models could be used on them as well. And Turians are popular among fans, so they are almost guaranteed. Krogans might still be playable, but I doubt there are many voice actors willing to do a krogan voice for THAT long. Mind you, the player character has more lines than any other character in the game. Asari, Turian, Drells, and Humans could all use the same voice with different effects and filters thrown on for the appropriate race.

Having a human protagonist is for the best, being the most neutral choice. I mean image that the next protagonist would be turian: everyone who hates turians or wanted a hero from another race is gonna be upset. Too few people would be pleased with that.
But I think it would be possible to do something like that if there was no main character at all. By that I mean if the story was not revolving around a single omnipotent hero like Shepard, but around a group of characters. Like a team of Spectres or vigilantes, who got their own ship and a fancy group name as well, probably. Which one the player controls is selected at the beginning of a mission: you'll see the selection screen: you'll select the one you want to play as first, and the two squad mates next. That way the player can play as any race that has one of it's members in the squad, or you can change the race in every mission you're playing. You can be a Krogan in one and an Asari in the next.

You would be able to choose which species you wanted to play as. It would be too strange if they forced everyone to be a turian, or a quarian.
And I like the idea, but I fear that it would be too much work and would break the flow of the story.

This is exactly why I don't want species options included. It didn't add much to DAI, the most frequently offered example. It would use resources that could be allocated to other facets of the game. Lock the protagonist as human, and give me the most highly detailed, impressively animated and brilliantly voiced male and female models I've ever seen in a game. BioWare struggles too much with crappy character creators and shared animations, as it is. We don't need those waters muddied by including half a dozen species. You would be able to choose which species you wanted to play as. It would be too strange if they forced everyone to be a turian, or a quarian.

Edit: I would still support a multiple species option, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't be as disappointed as I would of been before if it's not included.

I wouldn't mind playing a Human again ( it seems like we're going to anyway ) but I hopestill for the chance to play as a Turian or a Drell in future games

I like when the protagonist is not a superhero by default. You know, saving the galaxy/world etc. I like more of the "local" games. Although flawed, it was a nice change of scenario with DA2 being about a poor fugitive who become the champion.
Something similar with ME would be awesome. You dont always have to save the world me thinks.
I agree, personally Id love to play drell. And their fysique is similar to humans, so it should not be so hard.
Condidering the game prob will be many houndreds years into future, we will hopefully be able to see how quarians actually looks like! *excited*

As long as you can play as a Turian I would love it

While I am not in support for multiple race choice for ME, I am definitely not against it! Human would be my preferred choice though Turian sounds appealing. I wouldn't mind the character being apart of a merc group or private security company.

I definitly want a human protagonist again. I feel like playing a human gives a deeper connection to the character.
As for human companions, I want at least 2. If we get as much people as in DA:I, which is 12 if we count companions and advisors, it would mean that we'd have 10 other people that could be different races. That's a alot. Now that I think about it, 2 humans is not even enough.

The more aliens the better. I already deal with enough humans IRL.

I definitely hope they don't go for 12 squadmates. If they learned their lesson with spreading themselves too thin with that amount in ME2, they won't go that route. 7 sounds good to me. Especially fo the more personal (small-scale) story I'm hoping for. 2 humans. 1 male, 1 female. 5 aliens. And if you need any more humans for romantic diversity, have a human pilot and human ensign or something (non-squadmates)

Posté 11 janvier 2015 - 05:22
Oh I don't want 12 squadmates either. I was trying to say that they could do like in DA:I, which has 9 companions and 3 advisors.
ME:Next could do something similar, having squadmates and people on our ship.

A human detective/police officer, that sort of thing
Avoid the soldier mold, have a reason for combat experience, as a law enforcement officer stories don't always need to be about the mission, could be more personnel and better explain why you get involved with such an array of characters, chasing a case can unfold the bigger picture

This could make for a great protagonist. I still think some military connection, such as a veteran now working in a civilian profession, makes sense.A human detective/police officer, that sort of thing

Only the Asari have any non-military biotic training, from what we've seen thus far. Most cops don't learn to wield military weaponry, let alone biotics. I'm assuming they'll still allow us to build a combat-biotic PC, should we wish, as well as riflemen, battle-engineers, etc... Military training best explains familiarity with this equipment and these disciplines.

Those are exactly my thoughts. Why can't it be simple? My only thing about Hawke was that he/she was so unimportant in the grand scheme of things. All of the big events in Dragon Age 2 happen regardless of his/her choices. I think the main character should be simple explorer who stumbles upon something incredible. No galactic threats or anything, but maybe a mystery that should be solved. Think Indiana Jones -- a hero whose adventures go largely unnoticed except by those who are directly involved. My point is, you can still be a hero and have nobody know your name. Shepard towards the end reached near-messianistic proportions.
I want to play as a Drell. I love reptilian races.
And yes, seeing unsuited Quarians would be incredible.

C-Sec agent that has to go "off-station" to pursue a lead on official Citadel business and gets caught up in some crazy conspiracy ish. Yeah, I'd dig that.

The main character for ME4 should be human, and he/she is commander Shepard. For me the series revolved around Shepard, and nothing else will do really.
Till this day I don't get how they killed off such a great character. Carry on ![]()
