Would it bother any of you if the main character were British?
It would depend on the voice actor. I'm English and relatively well spoken but I don't want to play a guy who sounds like he went to Eton. It's why I can't use the English voice in DAI. Harry Hayden-Paton (god that double-barrelled surname, ugh) actually did go to Eton and while I don't begrudge him a good education, the way he speaks is a real turn off. It's too snooty. If you compare him to Alix Wilton Regan, who sounds well educated but not like she had elocution lessons, you'll see what I mean. She drops the odd T, uses the odd Americanism (as we all do), pronounces "pure" as pyor instead of pew-uh and she sounds infinitely more relatable.

Mancunian is apparently the easiest British accent to understand, that should solve any problem in that area, ![]()

I'd be all for a regional accent except maybe brummie, geesh 100 hours of that would be unpleasant.

I'd be down. I like Mel. He's not as cool as Kurt Russell, but he's still a cool mofo.

The problem with a civilian protagonist is that the character shouldn't have any combat skills,
Well....Liara is an archaeologist and yet apparently has excellent combat skills since she managed to hold off bandits and hostile wildlife.
or be in command of a warship.
True, unless they and their band of murderers killed all personnel and took control of the ship (could be a good prologue).
But personally, as long as we can travel from point A to point B and have some BS IFF system so we don't get nailed by naval vessels, I wouldn't care if we were flying a space U-Haul.
Unless by civilian you mean a mercenary, a pirate, C-Sec, or something along those lines.
I was thinking more along the lines of resistance fighter, militant from a hostile world, or merchant marine, but yeah pirate would work and may even be a better vehicle. They wouldn't be badasses of the bat, in fact, they'll be getting their asses kicked a lot but they'll learn through horrific trial and error.
I'm just tired of the space jarhead archetype.

I love Eve Myles beyond all reason so yes to this.
ETA: Although I wouldn't want her to play a Merrill "type". She played a pretty tough character in Torchwood and I'd like to see more of that. You don't mess with a girl from the Valleys.

A geth strikes me as being impossible to implement as a protagonist. No one would ever follow its command.

It could be an interesting direction if it was the only option.A geth strikes me as being impossible to implement as a protagonist. No one would ever follow its command.
But I doubt it, and it's too radically different to be one of a set of options. If there are options, I foresee Human/Asari/Turian, that seems most doable.

I would play a cyborg/AI learning to be human (like EDI) but not a geth that has no interest in human-like emotions or motivations. Also I don't want to walk around with a flashlight head. As it stands the only alien from the universe I would play is asari on a female-run or quarian if they lost the mask. If they introduce new aliens and they are playable, I would consider playing them but it would depend on them being able to be expressive with their faces (like asari and maybe quarians).

I'd like it to be centered on espionage, like a James Bond-ish character but instead of working solo, you have a crew.
And one race only. I don't want multi-race options.

Espionage, I'd like to see, but so far what little we've heard sounds more like exploration of the unknown will be key to the story.
I'd still like to see race options, but i can take them or leave them. Playing as an Asari or a Turian would be a nice change of pace though.

Been a while since I've been here. Nice to see that a few more pages were added.
Someone mentioned something about our ships earlier. I think it would be awesome if we can dramatically upgrade the ship which changes the interior and exterior, among other things.
Not my fault if you cant even bother to type "Mass Effect Comic-Con 2014" on youtube. I told you the source and told you where it was, why should I give you the URL too? Seriously, open another tab, go on youtube, search it and there will be plenty of results.
Oh, you're talking about this video? Please. There is no confirmation of human only protagonist. All they do is show off a human protagonist, that doesn't mean human only, that only means we're shown the human option. N7 doesn't mean anything either. As I and others have mentioned, certain species might have their own background. Human = N7, quarian = flotilla, turien = ex C-SEC, etc. Speculation!
The following is taken from the video at 20:50:
Q: "Is the protagonist strictly human, or could you potentially play as a turian."
A: "So that's a big one. We haven't locked down the specifics of that yet. What you did see up there was a human form. For sure your main character will be human, but in terms of other player races, we can't talk about that at this point. Sorry"
Sure, they could say that just to not disappoint people so early on, but he did not say "human only."
In that video, they go into how much you can customise the armour which makes me believe that it's human only, but that's not 100% confirmation. For all we know they could be going all out and doing this with other playable species as well.
As I have said in some other topic, I kind of hope we only have a human-only option. I would prefer that we get an AWESOME customisation tool for our human character, instead of taking away from that to play as other species. I would prefer a spin-off game to have you play as a quarian, turian, krogan, etc. Then they could base the game around that specific species and it won't seem out of place.

Think of them after the reaper upgrade, each or almost everyone of them is a truly A.I.

If there are others races would be great too, but it complicates the dialogue and the story or to put it another way between more races will be, each race have fewer possibilities to have options.
While I'm writing this I'm watching the Ender's game and I see Abigail Breslin and it is not particularly beautiful to me, but in this film looks gorgeous and not have the same capacity but something close to achieving that kind of appearance would be amazing.

Well, what would be a believable scenario that has a geth commanding a squad of organics, in a setting that is typically rife with extreme prejudice against them, with many refusing to entertain the notion that they're even alive? I suppose that the writers could always just sweep that stuff aside in this reboot remake new game, but it would just seem like one of those rule-of-cool things thrown in because people would be playing a geth in single player and little else. Unless the MEU becomes a more idealistic setting, akin to Star Trek, I don't see a geth of all things rising through the ranks like Data. In any case, the synthetic thing is only half of the issue. The only way I see a geth really working as a protagonist is if we get some kind of spin-off equivalent of Scud: The Disposable Assassin.

I'm about 99% sure we'll play as a human. I remember when they first released the initial art for our protagonist and the new Mako they said we'd be playing as a human again. Of course, they reserve the right to change their minds. My take is if ME:Next is to be a stand alone game, I'm all for playing various races. If they want to potentially have multiple games with the same character I'm totally against it. It's simply too hard for them to execute that many choice variables into a sequel and you'll end up with a watered down experience lacking in depth...basically the same character dialogue in (pick your race) skin.
