@Above - I never watched that much Firefly/Serenity, could you elaborate on that crew type a bit?

(I can not quote with IE.)

In short the captain in firefly fought in a war on the losing side. After the war, along with one other squadmate, became a trader and recruited a crew of diverse characters. Although he was officially a trader, it's constantly alluded to that he is still fighting the war by stealing, smuggling and running operations against the alliance (the winning side).

It was a very good show which I never saw at the time. Great pity there was not more of it made. The crew mates all had distinct personalities, good character growth and believable motivations.

Any ME fan that hasn't seen Firefly really needs to watch it. I imagine most ME fans would really enjoy it.

Doubly so if you like westerns! It is the only space-western I've ever seen, are there any others? It seems like a good market seeing how great Firefly was. I've seen quite a few surveys and petitions to bring it back or start another space-western series.

I remember catching a glimpse of "Train Job" episode and thinking "WTH is this? A space western? That's kind of goofy". I was so wrong. It's a great show with a great cast. I wish they could've stayed together much longer. I can't think of another show in which the cast seemed to immediately gel and really get their characters. That kind of comfort and rapport usually takes a few seasons to develop.

About the only western that I've seen and enjoyed is Trigun (anime series).  Most of the rest of them?  Eish.  I'm extremely picky when it comes to westerns.  And hip hop songs.  And well, anything really these days.  Damn kids, get off'a my lawn!

Firefly isn't really a Western, if you haven't seen it. Some of the colonies definitely have that look and vibe, but the developed worlds are futuristic cityscapes like Earth or Illium in Mass Effect. It's a pretty varied mix that works because of the awesome cast and characters.

The internet says "yes, it is". So, it was at some point, at least. It also appears to be available on Hulu.

Although the series as a whole can't be called a Space-Western, Western TV shows and movies were one of Lucas' main inspirations in creating the Star Wars series. (the others were Samurai films and pulp Sci Fi)

Han Solo is basically a Western gunslinger in space, and dresses like one.

That scene is practically straight out of a Spaghetti Western.

Now see, that's the original version before Lucas tried to change it all up.  Han did indeed shoot first.  Nice name, BTW.

Human character only. I think Bioware did a poor job with the ability to choose multiple races in Dragon Age. And no "wrong place at the wrong time" story.

Yeah, still hoping for human-only. And I want a chance to have a very scrapper/disadvantaged backstory again instead of needing to hail from a rich family in DAI. I identify far more with less fortunate pasts, plus they're more prone to dramatic feel-good against-all-oddsiness IMO.

As I said in an earlier post, I'm on the fence about this now. I really, really wanted it before but now I'm just not so sure. I'd probably end up choosing human most of the time anyway...

As I also said in an earlier post, I think they need to improve the character creation tool. For the life of me, I can't make my Shepard look like me (female Asian) and it drives me nuts. I blame myself, not the tool, for that one, but if there were more presets to go off of then I would be happy.

But if they did add multiple species I wouldn't complain. I'm always open for more options, just along as it does not compromise the rest of the game.

I personally would prefer a human main character in my game and the game be centered on the human experience learning about the different alien cultures through friendship and/or romance. I'd like if they could add height sliders (short, medium, and tall) and body size (slender, curvy,  and muscular) for the character creator. I'd rather have full customization of my human character than play another race. The DA team said that playing qunari, human, elf, and dwarf was to make up for the aforementioned. I'd rather just maximize my customization for my human female character instead of playing another race to get a different body type.

This is exactly what I'd prefer. I want as fully developed a PC as possible, and I believe that means making the PC a very customizable human. I do not want resources diverted from more important facets into including alien species. Let them find a home in the MP game.

I'm not, it's a well known fact that there will be a new protagonist in the upcoming game.

I hope we're not forced to play as a human again. The Mass Effect universe has been really well crafted, if not entirely original. But the human centrism was by far the worst aspect of the series for me.

Mass Effect don,t need a DAI format.  The game is the best with human view of the universes.

I thought it was the best feature, early on in the series. We were the newcomers, finding our way, and getting in our own way, often enough. The "Retake Earth" tripe of ME3 was a big part of what ruined that game's (and the series') potential, though. By the time of ME3, many players realized the stakes, and didn't hold Earth in substantially higher regard than any other species' homeworld. It felt like an ignorant marketing ploy hijacked the story.

Still, I prefer a human protagonist for ME3. It's still my preferred method of exploring the galaxy. More significantly, though, we know humans will be at least one of several choices. I'd prefer the resources that would be used to give us those additional alien options instead be directed elsewhere, improving the overall quality of the game.

I definitely think the desire to play an alien is a popular one. I suspect the option will be included.

I really hope we get to choose from different species. Being able to play as different races is one of my favorite things about DA:I, and honestly the species of Mass Effect are even more interesting than the Dragon Age races.

I  think BioWare should give us the following options to choose from:

-Human

-Asari

-Drell

-Turian

-Salarian

-Quarian

-Krogan

I don't really foresee them giving us the option to play as Elcor, Volus, or Hanar, because they are less humanoid than the above options. Also, I'm not sure about Batarians. I wonder what a female Batarian would look like? lol
