The reason for the two barrels on the weapons is because way back in 2005/06 when the original Mass Effect was being made they had a concept of ray guns that used an over/under set up as seen here : http://youtu.be/8SvHHO5ksNg?t=2m51s

Speaking of archaic weaponry, it was funny how the Kai Leng boss fight reminded everyone why nobody brings a sword to a gunfight. i got the impression it was supposed to be a challenge, but it sounds like most keep him pinned under fire and whining about his shields until the auto-win cutscene. If it was good enough for Robin Hood...

I don't know why they didn't bother making Kai Leng more like the Phantoms who are much better at approaching and killing Shepard.

Does Leng even have a palm blaster? In SP its their palm blasters that I worry about most. (They don't use those as much in MP, but they are a much bigger threat.)

Interesting.
The thing that really grabbed my attention though, was Shepard collapsing the pillar for that bridge with his biotics.

Kai Leng is equipped with a palm blaster and a sword that is capable of electric slash. He uses occasional heavy-melee attacks if you allow him to get close. These attacks can kill you instantly unless you block them by tapping the melee key/button.

Kai Leng should have been a Vanguard. Give him an high damage-dealing assault rifle, biotic charge, and a heavy melee attack if he manages to get close enough after a charge.

You mean Leng should have been a Krogan Vanguard?
(I love my Krogaurd!)

He's terrible at close range too. My last play through was a melee Sentinel run (no bullets) on Insanity and Shepard pistol whipped him into submission.

My idea for him would be that his strategy changed depending on Shepard's class in order to combat that class, since he's supposed to be an 'anti-Shepard'.
For example, against Vanguards he would stay out of range of Charge and Nova, and for Engineers he can hijack drones.

Every time I have to watch this scene in ME3, I think of this scene from The Matrix Reloaded. The point I'm referring too is at the 2:06 mark in the video.
Despite that fact that both scenes are ridiculous, the scene from The Matrix Reloaded is still much better.

The Avenger is the default weapon, right? I was annoyed seeing it in cutscenes. It wasn't the looks but the fact that my Shepard never has used an assault rifle... ever. She's a vanguard. In ME1 she used shotguns and pistols. In ME2 she used shotguns, pistols, sub-machine guns, and the Avalanche. In ME3 she used the Venom shotgun. ...No assault rifle. Stop showing it in cutscenes damnit.

None of the games have been exactly perfect on the weapon front but ME3 certainly has the most jarring cutscene weapons.

That sounds pretty much like the clone fight if you're a vanguard in the Citadel DLC. Shepard's vanguard clone is armed with the M-11 Wraith, and Brooks, who has the tactical cloak ability, is armed with the rather lethal N7 Crusader, which is really accurate at a distance.

Wow, why does that demo look way better than what we got. Everything from the galaxy map to the gameplay looked superior in that demo to the actual game!

Not at all, the Lancer is a monster of a weapon and one of the few weapons that deserves the title "Assault Rifle".

It is one of my favorite Assault Rifles but I rarely find myself using it. For the power spamming classes I generally opt for the Avenger, if I have the weight capacity, so the cutscenes aren't as jarring (the guns are just there to look pretty). On my weapon classes I either use the Revenent, which is my favorite Assault Rifle ever, or I use the lighter SMGs because of weight issues. On my Vanguard though (and maybe later my Infiltrator) I do have it permanently fixed upon Shepard's back where I do use it.

Have you ever been over to the MP forums? That is one of the favorite weapons there and for good reason. Its way more powerful than the Avenger, very little recoil, large clip size with an extended clip, and very low weight. Even in SP it is a beast of a weapon. I do the Citadel DLC just to get that weapon.

The Lancer has an incredibly low weight for an assault rifle. Little more than the Avenger. Try upgrading it to level V or level X for an NG+.

Oh sorry, I meant if I'm going to equip an Assault Rifle but not use it (like for the power spamming classes), I go for the Avenger so Shepard actually draws it from his back instead of just having it appear in his hands while the Lancer lies there unused for the cutscene. For those classes (like the Engineer, Adept, and Melee sentinel) I never actually use guns and they are just there for aesthetic reasons. In which case I find the Avenger superior just because of the cutscenes.

Really depends on the skill of the character and franchise. Raiden, Gray Fox, Solidus and Olga can cut through entire armored platoons without breaking a sweat. Of course it's ridiculous to compare any MGS character with someone as terrible as Kai Leng. BW could've probably made a cool swordsman character for ME, but they failed.

I stay away from mp, it's my personal form of protest against forcing multiplayer on people. had galactic readiness been alterable from with in the single player game, I'd have dove into mp, I just don't like being coerced. shame, it does seem like so much fun from what I hear.
as for power spamming... with the exception of my vanguards, most of my shepards rely on their weapons, using powers to give an edge when the situation allows it. my femshep engineer likes to use the lancer with AP & recoil dampener mods + AP ammo (rapid single shots, or 3 second bursts), in conjunction with the heavy turret & drone. M-11 stealth pistol for "hard targets" (I know that sidearm is rather cheap, I only recently realized how bada** it is).
