Talon
Paladin
I've tried many, many times to like charge up weapons.
But I can't. I just effing hate them all.
I know the numbers. I've seen them be used well. But they're just not for me.
So...
1. Executioner - The pocket Widow. It's like an Arc Pistol without the charging BS. The damage is high enough that it can OHK most Gold infantry with a body shot after Shields have been stripped (by Overload for example), really living up to its name. Alternatively it can be used with Disruptor ammo as a long ranged shield stripper, to be followed by a ragdoll power like Concussive Shot. Innate piercing means it can be used for full damage wallhax, or it can forgo the AP mod in favor of something else.
2. Talon - The pocket shotgun, with much higher accuracy than most of them, good ROF, good DPS, shield/barrier damage multiplier and ridiculously low weight. I mostly use it as a short range shield stripper, like an Acolyte without the charging BS. If only it had like 4 mod slots so I didn't have to choose between Heavy Barrel, Scope, AP and Clip.
3. Eagle - The pocket assault rifle. When I need a backup weapon that can be used at all ranges, I turn to the Eagle. With 700ish base DPS as well as access to Heavy Barrel and/or pistol ULM, it's a better assault rifle than most of the assault rifles and it weighs almost nothing. It's not a mind blowing weapon, but it's exactly what I want in a light backup weapon to support a shotgun. Alternatively, it's pretty awesome as a main weapon on a TSol.
Honourable mention: Paladin - The pocket sniper rifle. It's like a Valiant or Saber, but with PHB/ULM access. Like those othe two weapons, it's very good as a Stasis sniper weapon, as it does just the right amount of damage to kill unshielded Gold infantry in one headshot, shielded in two, and Phantoms in three, all without breaking Stasis. I would probably use it more, if not for the fact that I have a Paladin III and a Valiant X.
I agree with the assessment on the Acolyte. I've always said it would be nice to fire it and have it deal normal damage to shields and barriers without a charge. But if you charge it, you get that massive boost to shields and barriers.
Remember at one point the devs reversed the need to charge the Acolyte then months later they changed it back...... ![]()

I don't know whether to like this post because of your #1 section, or report it for the prologue
.
If my eagle ever gets above II I'll probably give it another shot at getting into my 'like' column.
But would you call it a bad pistol?
Absolutely not. You only need to take a quick look at the recent submissions for loufi's plat solo thread to realise how effective the Arc Pistol is in the right hands. Mine are not the right hands though unfortunately.
Remember at one point the devs reversed the need to charge the Acolyte then months later they changed it back......
I do remember, but they didn't reduce the damage on the non charged shot, so it was still pretty powerful. Also they did that to try and stop missle glitching, and when it didn't work they switched it back.
Mine are not the right hands though unfortunately.
Cato, pls...do you have to be so damn humble all the time ![]()
In this order:
1) Carnifex
2) Arc Pistol
3) Talon
come at me bro.
Lol.
Scorpion
Acolyte
Talon
1. Arc Pistol
2. Acolyte
3. Talon
I use the talon the most. But I really like the arc pistol; it's nice that it still does fairly good damage if you miss the headshot. I love when it staggers brutes. I don't use it much because I have old lady hands and play on console but the Acolyte would probably be my third. Or maybe the Scorpion. I'm rather fond of both. Back in the day I was a huge Phalanx fan and while I still massively prefer it to Carnifex/Paladin (never really liked either; too slow, even for a talon user), I don't actually use it all that much anymore.

Heh, well I didn't bother to start using mine until like Level VII or so.
At low levels it has neither the DPS nor the super low weight that makes it worthwhile.
1. Paladin
2. Non-charge up Acolyte. Scorpion
3. Eagle
Seeing as #2 doesn't exist anymore, I will go with the Scorpion. The scorpion is a lot of fun to use, especially as you can put power amps and other cool mods on it, compared to the venom.
- I don't actually like the Talon - it serves its purpose and is very efficient/useful. However I just don't like the aesthetics - neither how it looks nor how it sounds. It's ugly, end of. Much prefer the Wraith, Claymore or any other shotgun.
- I don't like the arc pistol at all either.
- Suppressor is cool, but not very satisfying to use.
- Carnifex, phalanx and predator are all too similar in style to the Paladin.
- Executioner is a bit too brash and not very elegant.
Edit - I forgot the Eagle - this is actually a bit unique compared to the rest of them, and fun to use.
Yeah... tbh I don't like any of the pistols other than the Paladin. They're all fairly dull. What I would like to see in ME4 is a GETH pistol - which fires for example one blob from a GPS or something.
Talon, and suppressor. If I were to say a third I'd say arc pistol, but that's more because I lack alternatives than anything else... I have used it no more than 5-6 times, so...
BLASFEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look who's talking. ![]()
High Lord Arc Pistol is the true High Lord while Lord Claymoar is a fraud.
On a completely unrelated note, did anyone else read the thread title as "top heavy pistols" and have their mind go somewhere else?
Can't believe I forgot the Eagle. I loved that gun when everyone hated it and still do.
acolyte, arc pistol, scorpion. Depends on the kit and playstyle. Talon and Eagle are very good, but not at lvl II. Pistols are by far the best weapon class in the game.
1) Paladin, easily. Probably not objectively best, but really the only one in this game where Dragoons gotta ask themselves the question "Do I feel lucky ?"
2) Talon. Pocket shotgun ? By all means, yes
3) varies, maybe Eagle or Carnifex
I only really care about the Executioner. Damn sexy pistol that lives up to its name.

That's debatable.
I could argue shotguns are the best category - plenty of variety and almost all of them useful.
For me, Acolyte, Paladin, and Carnifex Arc Pistol.
(Arc Pistol recently became a favourite.)
Nothing is "wrong" with them. However, they are outclassed by superior pistols. The Phalanx is decent when you're just starting out and have a sh'it manifest. The Carnifex is mildly better than the Phalanx, and the Paladin is a glorified Carnifex. Like I said, all 3 of these weapons have superior counterparts.
Superior =/= more fun (well, not all of the time - wraith vs claymore on the other hand...) ![]()
I love the aesthetic of the Paladin and the high damage per shot. It feels good to use. Nothing about the talon feels satisfying, despite it being superior in every way other than long range accuracy.
1) Acolyte
2) Talon
3) Arc Pistol
