Arc and Acolyte are great pistols that I can't use to save my life. Plus the Scorpion makes that pip-pip-pip..... bawhonnnng bawhonnng bawhonnng noise. how can you not love that?
Of the ones which I have tried (thus excluding the Talon and Paladin, since I don't yet have either...)
- Acolyte; extremely practical for kits like Batarian Soldier, which have a nice anti-armor powers like inferno grenades but nothing nearly as good for shield/barrier duty.
- Arc Pistol; good in general, particularly useful if my powers / other-weapon-if-any are pretty range-limited
- Suppressor; just plain fun, if you were already planning to run from ammo box to ammo box
Executioner would be a runner-up, especially against Guardians. I've put a Pistol Piercing mod on it before just to be able to laugh even harder when Guardians stay close to each other...
Need to try the Carnifex more, and I've yet to try the Eagle.
My three most-used pistols are the Talon, Arc Pistol and Phalanx.
Talon and Arc Pistol are great main weapons, and the Phalanx is my usual backup weapon.
I also like the Eagle, though I have to use Stability III consumable to make it really shine. Acolyte I tend to use on characters w/singularity to make Phantoms fly. Scorpion is also pretty good for making mooks explode and watching Dragoons tromp right into them.
Carnifex and Paladin are useable, though only when my aim is good.
I'll give the Predator a mention since it's pretty good when it's the only thing you have maxed, but gets eclipsed pretty quickly. So a good starter weapon.
my most favourite is arc pistol. talon is nice too. and... i like to use eagle

The rest are inferior, although Executioner is fun as well.
I used to think Talon ( and scorpion on some classes) is stupidly OP for its weight. Until I discovered Paladin is equally good.
So now first position is a tie. 3rd scorpion.
Also question to Arc pistol fans. Arc pistol is good but what is that Talon and Paladin cannot do that a charged up Arc pistol does? For me one shot and 2-3 shots of these 2 feels faster than charging up. Also that is why I don't rank acolyte oh my list.
The Arc Pistol is better vs shielded enemies because the damage model is not effected by the shield gate as much. The Arc Pistol has much better range than the Talon and a lot of characters can use it while only a few characters can make the Talon stupidly OP as you put it. Imagine you are playing the AJA on FB Hydra (or any map where the enemy is not in your face all the time) with a Talon... The Arc Pistol would perform much better in this situation.
The AP has the potential to OSK shielded enemies like the Nemesis, Centurion, etc... and you do not need a character that has ridiculous damage bonuses to do so. Only a few characters can OSK these enemies with a Talon. The Paladin struggles a lot vs the shield gate and on Platinum the Paladin is pretty weak with a very low clip size, whereas the Arc Pistol is still a top performer on Platinum.
One of the most dangerous enemies in the game, the Phantom, can be easily killed with the Arc Pistol by any character. If you land one charged shot (not sure if you need a HS) her barrier will be gone and she will be staggered so that you can take her out easily with a follow up shot.
M-358 Talon, Arc Pistol, and the Scorpion. The N7 Eagle gets special mention, but aside from that, can't really stand using anything else. Acolyte is more of a tool than a weapon.

You know, I love that gun; until boss time. After trying to kill primes and atlases and praetorians with it, I put it in the recycler.
Seriously though, I just can't pull off that Feneckus "Like a Baws" like he can.
When you use it , do you charge it everytime? I put accuracy and HB on Talon and Paladin and I find I still can shoot across the map. I also find 3 (Paladin) - 4 (Talon) shots before the reload to be more efficient than charging mechanism. I suck at charge weapons.
Yeah, I charge it directly again after each shot and try to keep it charged at any time in the game.
