As far as I'm aware its never been stated what language is used in Nevarra but my guess is that they speak the common tongue also known as the kings tongue or trade tongue. To be clear the common tongue is used in Ferelden, Orzammar and the free marches. Seeing as Nevarra was once part of the free marches I think its likely they speak the same language. Thoughts?
Do Nevarrans speak the common tongue?

No, I believe that was Rivain. And they actually must of learnt the common tongue as a second language as Rivainians speak Rivaini, a different language.

You're right, I was in fact thinking Rivain. Clearly too much blood in my coffee-stream.

I don't see why not considering that both Merrill and Cassandra are originally from there.
Merrill is from Ferelden, Dalish also speak the Common Tongue because Elven is barely a language anymore.
Cass is our sole link although she's a royal and a member of the Seekers, both groups that probably speak primarily Common.

Well, humans learned the common tongue from the dwarves so it's safe to say that any nation that interacted with the dwarves or with a nation that interacted to the dwarves enough to learn it knows it. The common tongue is the most popular language in Thedas so if even some qunari know it, I think that nevarrans are pretty fluent in it.

why wouldn't they?

Well lots of nations have their own language so it's possible (but unlikely) that Nevvara has its own.why wouldn't they?

No she isn't, Merril is originally from the Alerion clan from Nevearra and was given to Sabrae clan from Fereldan during one of the Arlathvenn meetings when she was 4 according to the codex from DA2.

True but if she went to Ferelden when she was 4 she would be raised to speek the common tongue even if there is a diffrent lanquage in Nevvara. No she isn't, Merril is originally from the Alerion clan from Nevearra and was given to Sabrae clan from Fereldan during one of the Arlathvenn meetings when she was 4 according to the codex from DA2.

True but there have been other characters from there aswell though they are pretty minor, Ginnis a female leader of the mercenary group called the Winters the one who killed the Qunari infront of the Saemus the viscount son, and another named Nyree who was in what the web series, and there was a gathering of mages there in Cumberland.True but if she went to Ferelden when she was 4 she would be raised to speek the common tongue even if there is a diffrent lanquage in Nevvara.
Remember Wynne mentioning it in Awakening and having to get what's her name in the wending woods because of it, it wouldn't make that much sense to have an important meeting there without the knowledge of the comon tongue orit's part in one of the battles in one of the blights and we've seen and heard about people from there using it including one of the kings aswell, also we may be going there in DAI.

Its possible that all these people laernt the Common tongue as a second lanquage but I agree, I now think that its almost certain that Nevvaran speak the common tongue. But about what you said about us potentially visiting Nevarra being a reason for them to speak the common tongue, Orlesians dont speak the common tongue and we're still going to Orlais.True but there have been other characters from there aswell though they are pretty minor, Ginnis a female leader of the mercenary group called the Winters the one who killed the Qunari infront of the Saemus the viscount son, and another named Nyree who was in what the web series, and there was a gathering of mages there in Cumberland.

If people like the Qunari speak Galactic Basic(what I always think of when there is a predominant language in a series), it is a pretty safe bet that the people of Navarra at least know it so they can converse with people from other nations.

I think only Qunari and Tevintar are the only nations don't speak the common tongue but I think Tevintar's is only a matter of American English to British English.

In the PnP RPG set, it says that a player character of Nevarran nationality would speak both the common tongue and orlesian (the country national language).

That's not exactly what I meant, when we go to these various nation's and places it gives us an opportunity to see and learn more about how different they are in terms of clothing, weapons and armour, the different customs in general and how they interact with people from other nations not necessarily because of their possible knowledge of common tongue though that'll help them better communicate with us.
DAI is meant to further flush out the world of Thedas according to the devs, and it'll be interesting to see how different someplaces are from another, and what I meant is that we'll likely get this question answered.
Also most people do speak common tongue.

The Imperium has its own language, just as Orlais does, even if most people speak the common tongue as well. Only in rural areas might you find people who don't

I wonder if they sing the Chant in the Grand Cathedral in Orlesian or the Common tongue. While the Chantry was officially formed in Orlais, the people and events it venerates predate the nation.
