Mages are much more susceptible to demonic possession, but normal people (including Templars) can also be possessed in certain circumstances. However, I think a lot of the "rules" will be pointless in Inquisition considering the various rifts in the Veil. With demons now able to enter the mortal world, they may not need a host of any kind.
Possession/abominations - not restricted to only mages?

Normal people can be possessed, but not every normal person is a suitable host, unlike Mages. Some Normal people simply die instead.
And then are used for compost by insane blood mages living in a sewer...shameful end that.

Do demons who possess mundanes bring any magical talent with them through the Veil?
Yup. The difference between a possessed mage and a possessed anything else is that the demon can also draw on the power of the mage in addition to their own power, and not just on their own power and the properties of what they're possessing.

It also enhances them IIRC.

Technically you are never sent to kill an Abomination. You are sent to find out what happened to the mage. It just so happened that the mage in question's apprentice had turned into an Abomination. And you don't hunt down the cabal of blood mages because they are blood amges, but rather because their presence endangers another mage from the Collective.
Basically the only inconspicious quest you get from the Collective, is the one where you have to gather Deep Mushrooms for a pie.
Even that last part I was suspicious about, considering that Deep Mushrooms are used oftentimes in poison.

"Notice of Termination" is for the Mages Collective. The Mages Collective aren't officially part of the Circle; they are a clandestine group that operate outside the law to protect mages outside the Circle.
Yet, they were still out in public with one of them not fifty feet from the Chantry. Not all their contracts have to be with apostates.

Instead, they have you warning "accused Blood Mages". Given the shady nature of the Collective as noted by dragonflight, I wouldn't be surprised they might have been the same people who you kill at the coven.

Apostate Hawke is out in the public, too; so is Merrill and Anders. They can even go inside the Kirkwall Chantry.

I think it would be pretty funny if they added a passive skill that says "Can't touch me" to the PC which lists all the bonuses for being the protagonist of the game.

This certainly merits repeating. Easy to forget about the gameplay with a bunch of us lore hounds around. ![]()

Great, now I have a mental image of Merrill running around in Hammer pants, singing "You can't touch this" to the guards.
I'm not sure if I need more coffee, or should start thinking about a nap.

Apostates have existed prior to Hawke.

Apostates have existed prior to Hawke.
I think the point was how Merrill and Anders (and possibly Hawke herself) was only able to run around in Kirkwall the way the did was due the PC's special snowflake status. I usually go by the term plot armor.
Most apostates didn't stick around Kirkwall if they could help it. In the three years between Acts 2 and 3, I'm betting they got the hell out of dodge and as far away from Kirkwall as they could.

Can't Touch Me
------------------------
Description: Ye, as the chosen one of Him, is blessed with His power.
Thou shalt not be possessed, tainted nor controlled.
Thine companions share in His blessing, and will not judge ye.
- 100% immunity to the taint
- 100% immunity to mind control
- 100% immunity to possession
- Cannot be hunted by Templars
- Companions will not complain
I think that covers all the bonuses we get. Add more if you find any

I'm not going to touch anyone wanting to stay in Kirkwall (that's a can of worms I would prefer to avoid), but my point was about apostates being outside the Circle. The Mages Collective, in particular, was about helping apostates who were living outside the Circle. The idea of an apostate being out in public (when no one knows the person is a mage) isn't unusual; even Morrigan did it.

Companions will almost immediately act to accept the Secondary Antagonist of the entire game into their ranks on the flimsiest of pretense?

@Lob Er, Morrigan was also a kind of special case. She was traveling with the Wardens. Prior to, she had to hide or use her shapeshifting.

Lothering isn't Kirkwall, And her shape shifting and running back into the wood's isn't the same pretense at all given she admits when she was there, she was both accused of being a witch by a Chasind, and once even had the Templars summoned upon her. And given the game mechanic for pursuit by the Templars was confirmed by Gaider to originally be planned for the game but "canned" like so many other features of that lack luster title due to "resource" issues.
In any matter.
I find the special snow flake allegory surprisingly true.
Oh and i'd like to point out the Magic Collective can effectively be destroyed by PC actions, Just as they can be spared by PC interaction, my point with this is it isn't the most compelling of cases when it can end up like the mage underground aka all dead in a hole somewhere.

Heck no, the Mage collective in origins can be defunct by the time DA 2 even starts.
Two separate groups.
Both Morons but at least the collective tried to pretend they weren't all blood mages and killers.

Morrigan talks about entering human society prior meeting The Warden; that's why she was familiar with Lothering. According to her, she never shapeshifted into another human form. She also mentions the incident with the Chasind who sensed she was a mage, and how she fooled everyone when the Chasind tried to reveal she was a mage.

That is a different quest. I was thinking about the one where you clean out a cabal of Maleficarum in the Brecillian Forest.
