  • Anders: I can't believe you're still not taking sides.
  • Isabela: I told you, I only like to be on top.
  • Anders: I mean against the templars! You like freedom, right? You hate slavery.
  • Anders: Why wouldn't you side with the mages?
  • Isabela: Maybe I just don't like you.

Dehumanizes templars as being equivalent to slavers.

okay okay, I'll do one.

Ser Alrik dehumanized mages, more specifically tranquil mages.

A lot of people on the forums talk about templars as if they're boogeymen, who wait in the woods until the dead of night and swoop in, snatching up good little mage boys and girls from their families and fly off to cook them in a pot.

Also a lot of people call them rapists and sadists because of what a few deviant say, and then get mad when people refer to mages as walking time bombs or power hungry, and cry that you can't judge everyone based on the actions of a few.

Also a lot of people like to mock the templars are being incompetent or generally dim witted, from their fashion sense to their lack of magic. Can't really tell if that counts as dehumanizing or not, but I do know I get a laugh out of those posts one way or another.

Templars are jack-booted thugs. One Templar in particular with a German name is not only compared to the Nazis with his laughably hamfisted "Tranquil Solution" he is also a rapist who lobotomizes his victims!

Mages are loons who are only a moment away from turning into a monstrous killing machine and WILL backstab the player even if it makes no sense.

It's not surprising that instead of investing players in the mage/templar conflict, Dragon Age II ended up alienating many because both sides were intolerably awful and stupid.

Good thing I did not say that they all were.

The mages that are violated and branded sure are though.

If were going back into the tranquil debate again then not really since the brands are needed in order to do it

Circle mages are not allowed to have children/parent their children if they do have them.

Does that change what's done to the mage? At all? Does the end result somehow differ? It doesn't.

The symbol of an institution that barely tolerates mages being locked into their cages, branded on a lobotomized person's face is not dehumanizing?

I'm not changing my stance on this. Believe what you wish.

Edit: I see where this will go and at risk of becoming empassioned I resign myself to spectator status for the duration of this thread.

2 for 1: The death of a mage is acceptable if it preserves the life of a mundane, and the death of a templar is acceptable if it preserves the life a mage.

Starting to understand what Fenris is talking about when he goes on about being a slave to his hatred

It's too funny. A bit ridiculous, but funny nonetheless.

Mages referring to a valuable and useful rite, Tranquility as "beheading" or turning them into a "freak"

Implying that usage of said rite upon them removes their humanity and that Templars are wrong to practice the rite.

Neither is true in my opinion :P

It dehumanizes the tranquil to being inherently worth less then anyone else.

The whole of humanity is defined by mages and in comparison to mages by the usage of the terms "mundane" and "non-mage".

That's generally a given. :)    I joke around, but I try not to harass or troll people just because they happen to be in the same thread as I am.

The debates between mages and templars are analogous to the Kirkwall rebellion. One side should just back out now, before someone goes guano and things get more violent

I suppose it depends on how much one may value certain aspects of their mind. From what I've read, it seems to me that it strips away just enough that death may be preferable to some, including myself. This of course still has in mind that it has a useful purpose, but in a mage's position, I'd never go for it myself.

Tbh, the fact that some Mages asks and wants it makes it untrue
