The real challenge is to somehow convey the distinctive smell of a mediaeval fishing community. I suggest taking a small fish, covering it in dung, and leaving it in the sun for a day or two. Then hang it around your neck on a piece of string whenever this particular area loads.
Or maybe just an area hearthbeat script that makes periodic fortitude saving throws v's nausea for party members. Do the Kemo animations include vomiting, by any chance? 
[Edit: there's actually a 'standing, doubled over' animation which might work! A vomit VFX wouldn't be hard to create.]
