Z, reread my post.  I said that while blood magic may have played a part, it was not blood magic alone that caused the Imperium to fall.   Your previous post hinted towards that and that's simply not true.

Tevinter fell for a large myriad of reasons.  However, again, it wasn't because everyone turned into crazed abominations due to blood magic.

I don't recall saying anything about Abominations, I inferred and correctly mind you that Teveinter was no longer an Empire, its a singular country.

Furthermore while you did state that, I'd say the collaboration between the events that led to their fall were almost entirely led on by usage of Blood Magic, Them using humans and elves for slaves and thus blood sacrifices, caused the elven and human revolts that crippled the Imperium in the North while Andraste was marching, Their usage of blood magic in breaching the fade and unleashing the taint and thus the first blight made it possible for a barbarian horde to combat the greatest empire in Thedas and more or less obliterate it.

Teveinter to me is a warning sign for a myriad of reasons, blood magic among them.

I think we can agree that we don't have enough evidence to completely judge either way.  For my part, I still think it was the arrival of the Darkspawn, Andraste and the Qunari that made Tevinter fall, not blood magic.  They had been using blood magic for a long time and their society had been quite functional (not to mention very powerful) until Dumat told them to come into the Fade.  Yes, I do believe Corypheus' story about that one.  It makes complete sense.

Gee Dumat, how well did that work out for you?  Idiot.  <_<

Anyway I believe that hubris and greed, far more than any magic, is what caused Tevinter to become a shadow of it's former self.

And them breaching the fade and unleashing the taint upon world wouldn't have anything to do with Blood Magic would it?

I see the correlation between Blood Magic and their downfall, Perhaps not a literal connection but it is there.

There's no clarification about what happened with Corypheus, whether they were the first darkspawn, whether the City was already Black when they arrived, and whether or not they originally spread the taint (especially given the initial dwarven records of the first darkspawn encountered), you're not in a position to speak with any authority on the matter.

Dang and i didn't even insult the knife ears this time and you came out of the woodwork, Did i say anything about it being Lore or God Canon backed fact? You know like the elves starting the war that utterly ruined them for all time...

._. But anyway, its my own musings and i never said different. Its what i happen to believe, like your belief that the Dalish didn't invade Orlais even though increasing amounts of lore tells us they did in fact do so.

<skids into the thread>

Please, for the love of whatever you believe in, don't start up on the Dalish stuff in here.  Lob, I know he's trying to bait you.

Please please please don't get into this again.  I know where this debate is going to devolve into, so would you guys please save it for an active elf thread?

I'm not attempting to bait, i'm attempting to be humorous while pointing out that my own opinions are my own opinions.

That said i do agree with the sentiment, the thread shouldn't be derailed by the Dalish argument again :P

It should be derailed by Pro Mage and Templar debate like usual.

Ugh, not that.  We have...what, 4 threads open about that?  Pass, please.

Anyway, I'm wondering what more folks have to say about the use of blood magic. I've been enjoying the varied perspectives on the subject.

Blood magic is shunned because of the mind control aspect (and using vital powers of other people obviously).

I don't think someone who wants to become more powerful feels the need to justify his actions. Personally, I don't see anything evil in blood magic (I'd totally RP tevinter magister), especially if said blood mage isn't able to affect others in dialogues ;)

Thanks, darkness. Was going to settle with telling the quarreling couple to get a room as to relieve some of the tension, but your timely interjection has made such a remark unnecessary.

On topic: I does what I likes. I likes blood magics. Justified.

I will not...be toyed with!

That makes me wonder: For those that justify blood magic for more than the Evilulz, is it ever okay to mind control someone?  Before you say yes, think about it.  One of the key points that the more fanatic pro-mages like to bring up is how Tranquility seems a lot like mind control and that is an awful thing.  That it is taking away the former mage's will and brainwashing them.  I'm not debating against that, since I can understand that opinion.  Still though...

I don't like the RoT, but what makes a blood mage mind screwing someone any better than the Templar that take advantage of someone easily led?

Would it be justified if a templar took advantage of a Tranquil to save their own skin?  I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'm just trying to see where some of you guys are coming from.

As I said, if they're attacking me then it fair game.
