In Asunder it is possible to resist, but it's incredibly hard to do so, even for an experienced Templar.

So I'm personally chalking that one up to PC plot armour.

That's what I'm saying, although I believe for a non mage/templar it will be twice as hard to resist.

Although,I'm starting to think that the templars will find themselves in a very similar situation, after the events of Asunder and inquisition. After all some of them use a power as potent as blood magic which, unlike the first is guaranteed to make someone insane. And while some maleficarum may keep blood magic practise secret and quiet, the red templars on the other hand openly attack and burn villages to the ground.I doubt that the society will trust any templar after such events red or not.

I think peasants can distinguish Red Templars (You know, the ones who seem to glow red and junk) from the normal Templars in generic armour.

Well then I withdraw my dictator label and instead put forward autocratic oligarch.

Then ill repeat my question from before, why would having a position of power discredit his opinion on society?

That's not exactly my point...What I wanted to emphasize was whether they'll be able to trust the templars after knowing that some of them, became suddenly demented and stared attacking their homes and families.

The same petty peasants(yum yum alliteration) who fear all apostates as maleficarum and possible blood mages?

They have been shown to be petty and viscious, If anything they will point the finger at the normal Templars for red actions just as they do the mages for blood mage actions.

Because he is an authoritarian and I do not accept the opinions of authoritarians, they have the right to state their opinions and I have the right to dismiss it, a right I believe to be inalienable.

The problem is that their opinions might actually be right. I think the Qun-supremacy thing isn't an example of this, but as far as Kirkwall goes I think he's hit the mark.

You can't tell a blood mage from a normal mage until they actually start using it though.

There's no evil aura or anything that says "Evil guy here"m they just look like a normal mage.

There aren't a visual indicator that someone is a blood mage, let alone a mage at all. So the reason that peasants have a hard time discerning betweena  run-of-the-mill apostate and a maleficarum is obvious. Nevermind the fact that both are rare, and the peasant probably havn't ever even encountered a mage before...

whether he is right or wrong about Kirkwall makes no difference to me.

Fair enough. My point still stands however. The templars will be shoveling **** for the actions of their red brethren. Some of the peasants will empathize with the normal Templars I am sure, just as some of them empathize with 'normal' apostates.

Opinions of peasants aside, it will still be funny to see how Templars deal with all that delicious karma.  <3

I don't think that telling them apart will be the problem in this case...It's simply the fact that the order will be viewed with suspicion,as a potential danger...If they believe than any mage can turn into blood magic, what guarantees that they won't think the same for the templars and red lyrium.

I dont think you understand the point im making. Just because you personally dont accept nor want to listen to his opinion, doesnt mean it isn't legitimate or backed by truth.

An example is when he told Aveline the the reason the elves broke the law was because their laws are flawed. Thats a justified opinion when taking into consideration that the peace keepers of Kirkwall turned a blind eye to rape and as a result made these elves turn to murder for justice, thats purely a product of the society which is what he said. Thats a legitimate opinion whether you like him or not

As I said, that still does not discredit my point. I don't think a peasant is going to care about semantics when a red templar burns down his house. They will likely blame the regular templars for red templar actions. Claiming their organization to be corrupt, just as they do the mages.

It will not happen over night. But it'll happen.

Oh, there's no doubt the normal Templars will catch some flak for the Red Templars.  But I don't think it will be as much as people think it will.

I believe the elves were justified in their actions, but I do not take the Arishok's opinion into account. I don't care if he is right or wrong on any specific issue, he is an authoritarian therefore I dismiss any opinion he states.

Maybe so.

Though in a perfect storm it can be much worse. With the exodus of the templars from the Chantry, Justinia and her seekers can spin whatever story they please to the masses and Lambert may not be there to explain/rationalize their actions. So already there's that little ping of doubt amongst some of the denizens of Andrastian Thedas. You spin this story and then introduce the Red Templars into the equation and things might begin to fall apart. Slowly, but surely.

Won't be a nail in the coffin to be sure, but it will for certain yank them down from their high horse in the eyes of Thedas.

It's justified when a mage is part of some legitimate organization -- like, say, a country's military -- and using it to the ends that group is pursuing, while also under watch when doing so. Otherwise, I see it like civilians carrying military-grade weapons IRL: it should be banned, and offenders should get hit with serious penalties. I'm even okay with the Templars' kill-on-sight procedure.

That said, I was also willing to overlook Merrill's use of it, given Hawke assuming the responsibility that it doesn't get out-of-hand. Hawke's posse may not be a legitimate organization, but they get away with lots of things. Ya can't hate a clique of thug-killers.

Pretty much this^

Besides, the templar order was  held in high regard by the common folk, due to it's association with the chantry. The schism is more than likely to damage their reputation, one way or the other.
