I have always liked the combination of the relatively straighforward setup of horde mode PvE, 3 powers and 4 player teams with the multitude of combinations and variations to keep this game interesting for so long.

 

I wonder if MP was an integral part of ME3 from the start or if the idea just came up at a later stage ? Was the success of MP as expected or did it surprise you in some ways ?   

When I came onto to the team (I was the first contract employee hired), Montreal was doing its thing with MP, and most people didnt pay attention to it. But more and more it started coming into play. We brought on a very very talented designer who shaped a large part of what it ended up being. 

 

The success of it didnt really surprise me, I knew that if people gave it a shot and didnt immediately put it down they would play for a while.

Hello Bryan,

There were a few reports that the next Mass Effect will run on the Frostbite 3 engine which is notorious for enhanced physics and destructible environments. Is that something we can expect in the next Mass Effect title?

There arent more than just a few reports, the next mass effect will run on frostbite 3. As for how they are going to use it, its up to them.

I have a question, and I hope it's not taken as rude, but here goes

 

Why was the ps3 collector hard freeze never addressed?  was it simply too difficult to fix due to constraints? (I'm not asking you to blame sony, cause I know it's possible that it was partly their fault lulz)

Honestly, I couldnt reproduce it in house, you cant fix it if you cant reproduce it. 

 

Also if it happened all the time, sony wouldn't have passed it pass certification, so there may have been a difference with our test kits or some weird combination, but I never saw it.

The most important question..

..will the Venom shotgun be in NDA?

Actually, even if I didn't like some things, will all the weapons, kits, powers, mods, gears, consumables and equipment be in NDA?

What was the most difficult part when creating ME3:MP?

 

Were you involved in the project of ME3:Team Assault? (http://masseffect.wi...ct_Team_Assault)

 

Did you want to add something in-game that you couldn't because of limitations? (Like Thresher Maws, Harversters...)

 

If you could change something in ME3:MP Now, what it would be?

From my opinion it was trying to balance the store, ie if we had it so you could just go in and buy what you want off the bat then you would quickly drop it (honestly this happened during development). 

 

It was before my time

 

Even though it didnt make any sense what-so-ever, when we first started the character models were henchmen models instead of "generic". Grunt was solider, Mordin was Engineer, Katsumi was Infiltrator, Samara was Adept, Thane was Vanguard, and Garrus was Sentinel. We had so much fun doing the personalty voices of these characters while we played them.

 

A proper "training" simulator for new players to introduce to MP instead of just a drop in (generally gold)

1. Why were you up so late?

 

2. Since I was going to write a thread on the topic, do you think Soloing should be removed from MP (team-oriented) and be required to use generic bots for missing players (at least until a player joins the GIS)?

 

3. Do you think there SHOULD be more emphasis on melee for the next game? Perhaps adding more action move, making tankier melee kits, or even a melee based class itself?

4. Do you think there will be more objectives added to the next game that take advantage of unique class styles? (e.g. faster disabling of devices for ENG, stealthier obj of INF, a super-boss takedown for SOL, a super-target (such as a detonating bomb) take down for all other classes).

5. PLEASE tell me they aren't adding PvP to the next game.

 

6. Do you now regret creating this thread?

 

7. What's a rough ETA on the next game? Some of us have stuff to do. :)
 

1. Assuming you were talking about yesterday, I was waiting for GF

2. No I dont believe soloing should be removed, it seems like a very arbitrary restriction. Having bots is difficult because something like objectives makes them stupid

3. I think that there was a right amount of melee in the game, the general problem imo is that melee doesnt allow you to deal with a large group

A  Q&A thread! Very cool of you, BroJo. Very cool of you indeed. Hopefully it won't go too far off the rails and the newer players, of which there appear to be a lot these days, will get some use out of it.

Personally, I haven't any questions but I do sincerely hope you'll do this again when the next game is officially announced.

I likely wont have the same hand in the next game ;(

I asked him about it a couple of months ago, and he basically said that they weren't able to replicate the issue. Sadly, the message was lost in the transfer to the new forums so I don't remember his exact phrasing.

Did anyone think about how players could potentially exploit certain effects of powers, or was the community too creative? (Cain Mines being spammed, for example)

I do have a couple more, but I'm short on time and don't want to overload you when you get back.

There were some things we thought up and changed it before it was shipped, and others werent. The Turian Female for example was super broken in my opinion before she was nerfed before we released.

What according to you is the biggest bug/glitch left unattended? incendiary glitch or hack glitching or pizza running or double/triple penetration on certain bosses or something else?

Hi Brojo. I think I played a game with you on PC a few days ago. You are BioAdmiral-X right?

 

It was Giant/Cerberus/Silver. I think you outscored the rest of us combined :P

 

IIRC you were an Asari Adept with a Suppressor and you were headshotting like crazy.

 

I know I don't really have a question. I just thought it was cool that you were still playing :P

When I first started playing, I thought the MP was just a combat simulator and promoting was actually sending your character out to fight in the war. It made sense to see Geth on Condor, or the mixed factions that is Platinum. lol

Also, I have another question. Something that has shades of gray.

For the gun Power Magnifier, it says in the description that it only increases "biotic and tech" damage. Certain Grenades are classified as a combat power (Frags?) and even Arc Grenades can't get Tech Kills. but some claim that it does in fact increase Arc Grenades damage.

I need to know if the Power Amplifier mods work on all grenades, or just some.


1 more. Does the Talon Merc Omni-Bow count towards Melee Damage for Combat Mastery?

I am rather curious on how the Cerberus faction was designed.

 

Why were the Phantoms designed to have the very high Damage Resistance on-and-off host (luckily it is bugged off-host) which negates the damage of many rapid fire weapons?  When players are equipping the Venom, Acolyte, and other staggering weapons to just deal with Phantoms it tells me that are a bit overpowered.

 

I find the Cerberus faction to be the unbalanced faction in this game. Besides turrets, the Phantoms are the only enemies that are a threat to me. I wish the other Cerebrus minions were more than just meatshields for the Phantoms.

How many of the devs actually have a maxed manifest. I'd imagine you could count it on 1 hand.

1 we had a fundraiser for charity and one of the prizes was a maxed manifest, 0 "legitimately" (I am the closest by a good amount)

I think this might have been addressed earlier in the thread, but would it at all be possible to get some stats like the ones presented by Eric about a year ago?

Was addressed already, basically unless a producer asks for them they are likely not happening
