Yes and no to that last statement.

Sometimes they are interesting and I enjoy reading what they have to say.  Sometimes posters get attention for all the wrong reasons.  More often than not it's derailing, derogatory to each other, off topic, antagonistic or certain individuals take it upon themselves to gang up on certain other posters (whilst the base argument they have against the person might be sound it's car crash forum viewing and pisses me off).

I would LOVE an ignore button that removes that persons posts from your feed or when you view a thread.  Makes it easy to scroll past moronic back and forth.

Well, I also think that it's dangerous to throw certain labels on people. I've been called an antangonistic derailer simply for expressing my opinion. Should I not express my opinion just because the majority of people in a thread would disagree with me? Should I not disagree with somebody just because there are multiple others who disagree with that certain individual? It's only natural that a forum, who's sole purpose is for people to express their opinion, would be a place where constant arguing happens.

It's not a matter of thread hijacking; it's a matter of people expressing their opinions. People seem to want mods to kick out people who would disagree with them or would present their disagreements in a way that they dislike. I don't think that would be a good approach.

Seeing as this is a suggestion thread and not a discussion thread, I'm going to end my engagement here. I just felt like it needed to be said.

I'm not against disagreements based on a personal opinion at all, and I would not be in favour of mods stopping it, if you read that into what I said perhaps it was poorly worded on my part. If people want to kick out others because their opinion is different then they're missing the point of this being an open discussion forum. And I wasn't advocating that.

What I want to say is when a conversation starts as:

Poster 1: I have this opinion on a, it's perfectly valid because of b
Poster 2: I think you're opinion on a is unsound because of x
Poster 1: No, you're wrong, because of c,d and e
Poster 2: mmm I never considered d, but I still disagree because of y and z

And turns into this:

Poster 3: Poster 1, your opinion is moronic and you're a moron.
Poster 4: yeah you're a moron for having opinion x Poster 1 especially because of what you said on m in a completely different thread about n.
Poster 1: huh? All I said was...
Poster 5: yeah a moron, deal with it.
Poster 6: yep definitely a moron.

You can't tell me that's not derailing and off topic - that's what pisses me off, I have no wish to read personal beefs that people have with each other especially if it's off topic and laden with insults. The first is enjoyable, the second? Sometimes amusing, other times mostly frustrating and annoying.

I don't want to turn this into a discussion either, but I was just saying an ignore button would allow me to filter out those who I personally think are derailing the topic or who I find just plain annoying. I have access to this on other forums and it's been useful when individuals have been particular idiotic, contributing nothing to the topic (IMHO), all this without putting any onus on the poster to curtail what they say (unless a mod steps in of course!). So win - win!

I hope that makes sense now.

Perhaps they do have an ignore button after all, and they're using it on this very thread! :P

In another forum I go to there a section where people can personally have it out and have a personal argument. They still get banned if they take it to far. I think giving posters a place to vent their personal frustrations at each other may be a good way to keep it out of threads where it doesn't belong.

Because, as it stands, poor random threads is the only outlet where people can, uh, engage in discussions such as this.

Did anyone just get a pop up saying something about "Due to feedback, we are..."

I accidentally clicked somewhere on the screen and didn't get beyond the first couple words.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw Jessica's other thread LITERALLY a few seconds after this.

I did. It said that the BSN will be updating by removing the polls, groups, some other stuff on Nov. 19. making them read-only.

I guess what I would like to see, is something that currently exists, but won't for much longer; Project pages.

Actually, I think Mr. House pretty much summed it up.

And what, they're taking the project pages? What happened to "We support the mod community."? You support it by...taking down these things to create the new and improved Bioware Un-Social Network.

BSN fight club?

mmmm I'm a member of another forum which allows for this sort of thing too, but mods put a stop to it if it flouts rules.  But a personal argument - is just that, personal.  Why would others want to partake of a such a thing for anything other than rubber necking?  It's not social, it's voyeuristic and I doubt Bioware would want to encourage it.

I have an idea....everybody shout suggest the opposite of what they actually want. Hell we all know BioWare reads what the fanbase wants but does a 180 on it.

Example/

User- I want everybody to be stuck with the blank face as their profile pic (I really want easy custom profile pics)

BioWare- We recieved your feedback and have added an 'upload profile pic' button.
