Probably the worst change to the site since I signed up.

You know what would be great? A way users with a registered game could upload images to some sort of online "album" and then "tag" people in it. For the "social" aspect of BSN.
Don't worry, Recon. It's not like BioWare isn't listening.

The off-topic section which is making the rest of the forum toxic? What about groups? I've heard that recent polls suggest that everybody™ wants groups removed too, as they are a toxic waste dump.CrustyBot wrote...

Finally a pure BSN where there will be intellectual discussions of people comparing Templar supporters to the KKK.

Ironically Off-Topic is probably the most polite and rational forum on BSN.
I don't know if you know this: Priestly had stated his desire to have the OT section nuked.

I wanted that as well for a long time, especially during the ME3 crises days. I heard some nice talk about how sometimes "upstanding members of the community" would be asked to take over mod duties, and I thought (and asked) "Well, wouldn't now be a kind of a good time for some more mods? Will we see the ascension of new mods anytime soon? And how does this actually work, who decides this stuff?".spirosz wrote...
I'd like to see some changes to the moderation.
Because I really appreciated the work of most of the mods that came from the community, just thought there were too few to actually handle all the stuff that was happening. And I agreed with the notion that the devs who do decide to participate in the forums shouldn't be forced to also act as moderators all the time.
Yeah, well, in the end we got a solution in the form of the ModBot Squad... <_<
It sure is. Off-Topic is the most pleasant forum here on the BSN by far. Although it's probably not for me to judge anymore, because I mostly stay away from all the other forums these days.Morocco Mole wrote...

As for the off-topic forum, as I mentioned before and several others have too, it's quite a polite place full of reasonable discourse, much more so than the main game forums (the ones I frequent anyway.) I like talking Bioware games when I can, but there is only so much you can discuss about a game not yet out, till then, it's nice to hang out when you feel like it and talk about other things.

I believe the BSN is a global mess right now because we lack proper functionality in a lot of sections:
- posting functionality in groups lacking and buggy
- bb code buggy in the forums (disappearing colour-code for one)
- entire subforums closed atm
- subpar moderation in the past with things spiraling out of control
- no subsections for all games in projects leading to messy bleed-over into all categories
- PM functionality subpar
I think that clearing up these sections and have a more uniform and transparent functioning site would help towards the posting habits of users and the general atmosphere across the board.
Additionally, I think we'd do well to preserve the offtopic discussion as it can bolster the community and the lack there-of will be sorely missed. You run risk of offtopic discussion spilling over in different forum areas without one and that would seem it would risk muddying up the forums, putting more strain on moderation.
I think groups should definitely be cleaned up but rebooted with a better functioning interface.
I think projects should stay but the categories expanded to include all currently released games seeing the sheer number of mods currently hosted on the BSN and the lack of an alternative for many of Bioware's games. The BSN is an established community modding resource site and has become a repository of years of modding work. Removing project functionality could do real damage to the modding community as a whole.
I think the problem isn't so much what is available atm but more how it functions. Transparancy would seem to be key. The better options you offer, the easier it is to place content where it belongs, the happier the userbase, lesser the strain on moderators.

Ok, if that has to happen can we at least get custom avatar choices??? People have been well aware of how to bipass these limits for a long time so I fail to see the point in keeping that restraint.

Having to download and f*** around with the Character Creator, editing and re-naming files just for an avatar? It's retarded. And anti-user-friendly.

Agreed.
The only reason I use Adin (Grey Warden) from Dragon Age Origins is because it is the only way for me to have an Avatar that no one else has.
I have tried messing around with the Character Creator, editing and renaming files.
57 attempts. All failed.
