Devs acting as mods, such as Epler, Allan, Stan, Gaider, etc., lead to some issues of devs feeling they need to play babysitter as well as trying to respond to the actual topics, so they rolled out the "bot mods" (although I'd say I've yet to see any increase in dev posting since the numbered mods were enacted, so I'd question whether this intent is actually being carried out). An interaction by the actual active mods might not be the worst thing in the world.

Case in point, Jimmy. I left BioWare in April 2012, so I am not a dev. I've made no secret of it, and I've corrected it every time someone implied I still worked at BioWare, and yet there are still some forumites who don't know I've left. Sure, I could have it in my sig, in a FAQ, or whatever, but those are useless if people don't care to read them. ;)

Then why leave.

Sorry I couldn't resist the temptation friend.

rotfl

Developers SHOULD have never been mods.Period.

That's my opinion.

It's irksome to me that players can befriend developers and then come in the forum and act like they can tell the rest of us what to say or not say.As one just did to me.

shrugs.

Best for all of us players to just leave until the game comes out, go do something else.Take the game as it is, don't continue to ask for this or that, too late for that anyway most likely or to debate what is or isn't cutting content, or this character or that  or whatever.
Just go away..

"walks away"

If you're going to ban someone, that's fine - but at least have the decency to either reply or let the user know how long they're banned for.

They do. Every time I ever received a suspension I was told what it was for and for how long it would last.

Usually it'd follow the basis of, "LPPrince, you've been banned for *insert timeframe here* for *insert reason here* Please reread the rules of conduct and if you want to contest the suspension/inquire about it, contact a moderator about it"

I've never had that NOT be the case. Unless its different with the new mod accounts(won't call them botmods since they're not automated and its a bit insulting really).

And this.

I cannot count how many times I've been banned with no PM saying why or how long.

I mean, if I've done something recently that was considered "sexist attacks against women" or saying a character isn't that great (and I have been banned for the latter before), then I don't really need a reason why.

But knowing how long I'm actually banned for would be pretty freakin helpful.

I know they do, but my last 3 bans - no indication of how long and I've pm'ed and written on their comment section.  I'm not the only one to have this be the case - so.

I have actually noticed a dip in mod efficiency over since the new system was initiated. Are these mods integrated with another external bioware but internal EA System by any chance?

Hmm, interesting. I must be "lucky" in that case.

Hey Stan,

I did know you had left two years ago, I remember reading your blog post about your reasons for doing so. Sorry to imply that I didn't know, understand or remember that. But while you DID work for Bioware, you acted as both a dev and also a mod. After all, your signature End Of Line quip was from your days as a Bioware employee, not after.

So you were an example of a dev who, instead of being allowed to discuss things with forumite a, instead had your time taken up with modding duties. Now, you may have enjoyed those mod duties (something that may be evidenced by continuing to home that position still), but not every dev may do so. I know Allan took a break (possibly forever) due to the feeling that he was being burnt out policing things while also just trying to have some conversations, either about Bioware products or other things in the Off Topic section.

I'm saying that mods can be mods, devs can be devs and eveyone can still act like normal, functional human beings, instead of being torn between two roles.

Get rid of the polls section. Why have it there when its function has been disabled?

Update the background more often. I'm seeing advertisements for ME3 DLC that are about a year old. DA:I is your next big thing. Why not change the background to something that has to do with your future titles?

Definitely need to wait on an official moderator for an answer to this. It may have to do with time constraints but couldn't say for sure.

That's the ideal. Despite the jokes made early on when BioMods were added, I get why their role has been put into place here. Not every developer has the mental endurance to simultaneously handle Community Issues and Community Questions.

After my last (second ever ban) by one of the ModBots I wrote him/her/it a lengthy reply about why I felt the ban -while justified within the site rules- wasn't neccesssarily... neccessary. After I was done with it I... realized he/she/it would never read it, beacause we weren't friends. Yay...!

Since moderators prefer to close entire threads because of posts like this:
http://social.biowar...1123/3#17821579
instead of removing the spam reply and punishing the spammer, it would be nice to have an option to prohibit particular users from participation in threads you create. Or an option to moderate your own threads.

You'd think you'd like that, but no.

You, me, the average forumgoer- we never should have the power to moderate our own threads. Thats too much power and would be misused far more than used correctly.

It is in all actuality one of the worst ideas as far as making improvements go. What we need is more moderators, those that know what they're doing. Not giving everyone and their mother the chance to silence someone they disagree with.

I believe that all moderators should know what are they doing, not only a part of them. Maybe most moderators on BSN just don't have enough admin rights to ban spammers and remove their posts? If so, then it would be quite easy to fix.

Check PSN forums. Everyone are very polite there, because people know they can get their consoles banned permanently for spamming or saying something rude on forums. Harsh? Definitely. But this provides PSN forums with very friendly atmosphere.

Thinking about it, you (and pretty much everyone else) would just delete anyone they didn't like from their threads. Then again, that might just cut down on arguments, so that sort of solution might not be as bad as it seems at first. I think you got a decent solution there, Sevial (despite the fact that you'd block me for being a troll, though I'm not).

That "friendly atmosphere" is born from the fear of getting your console banned not out of respect for each other. Besides, is it even legal for Sony to block your console?

I block only people, who did or most likely will try to turn my profile comments into a thread or a group. And this is one more thing that has to be discussed here by the way. How can I ask people to use profile comments only as profile comments, not as a group or as a thread? I don't wanna prohibit everyone from posting in my profile comments. Selective blocking is the only working solution right now.

Of course. Break the rules once - and you are in the black list, unable to use your console for multiplayer or post anything on forums. Teaches the nice manners just perfectly.

So we've gone from shilling PS and PS exclusives to shilling the PS forums? GG.

And how would you apply this to BioWare? Block everyone's Origin account?

Blocking Origin account as a punishment for spamming and saying something rude on forums or in a game voice chat is actually very good idea.
