What changes would you like to see on the BioWare Forum?

1. Make it easier to upload an avatar. I can't even use my ME characters... and maybe give us the option to upload from our own computer, a picture of our choosing.
2. Being able to change username would be nice.
3. Ability to track favorite threads... also ability to look up a username and see where they've been posting. Which sounds super stalker-y creepy LOL now that I think about it.

Also it's about time to remove the stupid "Updated Important Information" banner on top of every thread. We don't need to see them AGAIN every time we open a thread.

General:
~ Restoration of the old PM system (I know, I know)
~ Can we fix the timer for auto-log out or whatever there is? I have found, lately, that right in the middle of posting in the forum or a group, I suddenly have to log in again. Seems like it would make more sense for this to occur after a set time of inactivity rather than right in the middle of writing and losing your entire post.
~ Custom avatars. Obviously, there is a work-around some use (myself included), so not allowing people to just upload a custom avatar is not stopping them from existing. Might as well make it easier on folks. Could even just be a system where they input a URL for wherever they host their custom avatar on another site (so that you're not forced to house "uploaded" avatars on your own servers).
"What's New" Newsfeed:
~ Give us a way to limit what is shown to us. By this I mean, now that the PM change makes us add a lot of friends we didn't really want to add, it would be nice if we had a way to select certain close friends whose activities we DO want to see in the newsfeed show up, rather than just a free-for-all like it currently is.
~ Skip ahead to a friend's post. When the newsfeed shows my friend replied to a topic and I click on this, I am taken to the last post of the topic. Honestly, it would be much nicer if it took you to your friend's post in that topic (or their first post in that topic, if they have multiple posts in it). There have been times where I was interested in what my friend said in that topic, only to find once I get there that it's a multi-page monstrosity that I do NOT want to dig through just to find my friend's post.
"Comments" Wall:
~ There has GOT to be some way to better organize this thing. I don't know how, but maybe something more like Facebook walls/timelines where someone makes a post and all replies to that post appear underneath it and indented, rather than this current back-n-forth wall-to-wall disorganization.
Search Function:
~ Don't limit the number of responses it gives. Yes, I know there is likely to be a LOT of topics regarding Krogan, but just list them all starting with most recently commented in and let me go through pages of search results if necessary, rather than listing the first 50 or so and then saying "sorry, too many results". Also, allow us to search for a phrase or "contains" certain words. Right now, it feels like you need to put in the exact title of a thread if you're trying to pull up an old one you remember and want to refer back to.
~ "Jump to" would be really awesome if you could "jump to" only BioWare posts in a subforum or if you could enter a user's ID and "jump to" just his or her posts.
Groups:
~ Would be nice if posting in groups worked like posting in the forum, such as being able to add smilies or format text more easily than inputting BBCode directly.
I'm sure there's more I may think of and add later in a follow-up post, but these immediately came to mind.

If I'm understanding your request correctly, you can actually already do this. On the list of threads, you will sometimes see a "BioWare" logo underneath the thread title. That means a staff member has commented somewhere in the thread. If you click the logo it will show you ONLY staff posts in that thread.
Haha, interesting. I didn't know this was a thing.

You can already do that. Just PM Jeff Rousell with the new name you want to be under and he'll get on it when he can.
Oh wait, because of the new policy you'ld have to friend him first. :|

2. I don't like the "register game" system, I understand trying to reduce spam, ads etc. but the forums should be accessible to everyone.
3. More user friendly on ipads, smart phones etc.
4. Return of the old PM system.

More current forum software, with a responsive design is a must.
I've heard horror stories about BSN on mobile devices, but have yet to burn my eyes with it myself.
Using an Android device, it works fine.
though better for reading then posting.

Is it possible that you could somehow give us the ability to put our own avatars on out profile on the BSN, instead of using the Dragon Age: Origins character creator?

Using the mobile phone to do anything that requires a pop-up/light window, like send a PM or Report someone, is a headache. Also, unless you are using the Quick Reply box (ironically enough) you are completely unable to go past the few lines you can fit on the screen.
Not a huge issue for many people, but it has taken me a long time to work out workarounds involving special marking in my posts and crazy cut/paste jobs to post long responses, especially quoted responses.

I agree with 2 and 3 wholeheartedly. Number 2 results in weird inequities on the site, like how I owned a copy of ME3, but could never post on the forums there because Origin did not like my XBL account, apparently.
Has anybody seen the ending to ME3? Wow, that was something. Are people talking about that on the forums?

Get a search feature that is worth a pinch of goat sniff.
Hiring more moderators is a very good thing. Add even more than before and be more vigilant.

Unless I missed some major drama on here.
Oh, I also would like a feature to filter content from certain users or subforums.

Beyond that, I really don't have many suggestions. Although, I do think the new PM rules can cause some problems for BSN members, so maybe it would be better to modify that, or even put it back to how it used to be. *shrug*

Honestly though if there's one thing you shouldn't do it's make any "reputation system" It'll only lead to circlejerking with this community.

I almost never use the pm system and 99% when I do it is with people I don't know so, I could see that change being tedious for the rare times I would like to use the pm system.
This.
The majority of PM's I've received have been from people that I don't know and the majority of PMs I've made have been to people that I don't know. Whilst I understand the frustration that must have been falling on moderators, it would be better to have "PMs only from friends" as an option to be selected (which the mods would then duly select) rather than a rule applied to everyone.
The double irony of this change was that the majority of PMs I've had were as a result of offering support to people running into technical problems. The first week of DA:O for me was an object lesson in Murphy's Law, as I had to wade through several issues to get the game installed and working - on the positive side, it meant when other people were running into problems I was in a good position to talk them through the fixes that worked for me ahead of the EA team providing official answers. Quite a few people chose to PM to ask about solutions, and I was happy to respond.
As this is all now on the EA Answer HQ, which I have absolutely no reason to ever visit, the combination has raised the hassle threshold to the point where I don't offer to help any more. That doesn't seem like the right balance has been struck. Might a return of the self-help forums here, but with a stickied link to EA Answer HQ, be a better position to take?
I'd also add my voice to previous requests;
- a mobile-friendly version that allowed scrolling in the response box (or avoided the need for it) would be nice, that's irritated me more than once in the past
- when clicking on the "friend (x) replied to thread (y), please take me to *their* post as a start point, not to the most recent post in the thread.
- a developer tracker would be good. I know its possible to filter by seeking out threads that devs have posted in and then filtering within that thread, but its far more full of hassle than being able to do this in a single filter across all threads
And finally, not so much a change request as a "don't do anything to change this"...one of the great things about the BSN is that people at Bioware put their heads over the parapet and talk to the community. Not just in an "I'm announcing (x) today" capacity, but actually voicing their own views on topics and discussions.
Partly its great because their views are generally interesting and sometimes enlightening for those of us not in the industry. Many of them also have a knack for wit and demonstrate similar passions and interests as the player base. Perhaps most importantly, this helps reduce the feeling of "us and them" that some developer forums have when the only person to respond is the authorised PR manager.
