Then I'd rather they just tell me that. And tell you that. And tell the rest of us that.

There you go:

For now, Off-Topic will remain closed. We understand (and as is evidenced by this thread) that this may upset some users, but our hope is this will create a stronger forum community in the long run.

I'm still trying to understand how fracturing your community and making it smaller somehow makes it stronger.

That is so weak. I want the real answer, not the one a bunch of people took the time to craft so it looks publicly acceptable. Cause I spent a lot of time in the off topic section and to claim that without it the community will be stronger is insulting.

Eh, by now I find myself not even caring much about any forum section. For one, we've got a save harbour so aside from post histories, there's little been lost and secondly (and this is the important one): even if they revert the lockdown, it doesn't change the fact that whatever ramshackle community management thought this would have been anything but a bad idea.

What change would I like for BSN?

The answer is as easy as it's complex: scrap that wierd husk of community management BioWare currently has and make one that actually works.

You want a healthy, loyal community? Interact. We need a discourse, not a one-way communication. And a discourse needs mediation and moderation. Give the community faces, names to connect to and talk with.

Reopening the Offtopic is bandaid, it's just masking the brewing infection. What you need is a real health plan right now.

Exactly. There is SO much more that needs to be done. I'm tired of Bioware not doing it already.

Hire a community manager

Keeping in tradition, if they do they'll probably hire someone who's an asshole like Chris Priestly or someone completely clueless like Jessica Merizan.

How is the removal of the Off Topic going to create a stronger community? I fail to see the logic there.

How is the removal of the Off Topic going to create a stronger community? Forum goers usually want a section devoted to off topic discussion primarily because talking about games all the time becomes boring.

Manning a catapult is hard work. ^_^

I want to hear how they think this will help. All we've read is, "it'll help". Well, explain HOW exactly.

How about an off topic section? I know it's a novel idea but it could create an increased sense community.

Agreed. There could a thread for all sorts of things!

Animes

Specific animes of a colorful sort

Space

Various video games

Pictures of BSNers

You know, things like that. It'd be great for keeping us united!

Twitter- Too few characters allowed

Facebook- Too much vitriol and too many bad attitudes

Tumblr- Nothing but likes and reblogs, also way too much political correctness/SJW's getting in the way of a good back and forth

Reddit- Ugly to look at, pushes people away

So there really was no better place or even other place than here.

Certainly not the recent one that just took place, that's for sure.

Any chance of GIF avatars coming back? They were so sexy and distracting.

[and I could always adblock the ones I didn't like]

Thanks for nothing, BioWare!

Ironically, following DA:I's release, there were posts on NeoGaf from people like Aaryn Flynn, Manager at Bioware, addressing people's feedback.

There were zero such posts here. So it's not even that they like social media better than forums... they just actively hate their own forum.

*sigh* man, and to say the least, this is the community that I think would be the one not to pull something like this.
