Personally I would love for BioWare to have used this system rather than P/R, as it's closer to the way people behave realistically.  It would have been really cool to have created my Shepard as a Chaotic/Good character, or a Lawful/Evil character.  What do you guys think?

The concept of P/R is more about "good cop / bad cop" than an overarching moral alignment that governs their entire life.

Both systems are pretty terrible. Anytime that a CPRG is trying to read the intentions behind the decisions that a player makes in a game and trying to fit them into a particular box, there are going to be problems.

P/R works better for the game's writers because it assumes an overall "good" motivation-- you have to try to save the galaxy, you can't join with the Reapers or the Bataran terrorists, etc. It lets the game writers give the player cosmetic choices, but not have to worry about making the consequences for those choices any greater than moving a few points on your character sheet and varying the reaction of the quest-giving NPCs. It creates a more linear storyline, and linear storylines are much easier to write. (For an attempt at more interesting consequences and non-linear writing, take a look at Alpha Protocol when it comes out this spring.)
