Mirror match on Insanity, so much fun. I'm glad they finally gave us an opportunity to cut loose with this dlc for those of us who wanted more of a challenge in singleplayer.

Play MP.  Everything will feel easier.

Agreed. I used to play this game on the easiest difficulty because I was pretty horrible. Played MP for a while, went back to single player on hardcore no problem.

This DLC did seem harder compared to the rest of the game but I didn't mind it. It's probably one of my favorite parts of the game. Replayed it several times.

Not quite sure I get this. I'm far from the best gamer out there, in fact I probably suck when compared to many of you (I play in Normal most of the time). But I found Citadel's combat relatively hassle free. The low-health-cautious-mode section with the pistol at the beginning takes some getting used to, but once you've got your head around the need to proceed slowly and carefully, I found it pretty simple. So I'm assuming the OP's post only applies to hard or insanity difficulty levels.

I personally had the most problems with the final fight in Omega DLC. I'm naturally a slow, methodical cautious player, and the need to adopt a 'rusher' play style in order to beat it was anathema to my style of play. I probably died more times during that one fight than in all other Mass Effect games combined. I think it probably took me something like 12-14 fail/reload/retries before I was able to win by the utmost skin of my teeth, with me down to around 3% HP and no health packs left. I freely admit I suck at any kind of gaming that requires speed, fast reactions, timers etc...

Well, the thing about that. I never tried MP, I don't plan to try MP, and I would be extremely happy if they excluded MP from future ME games(doubtful). As I've said in other posts, I don't believe MP belongs in ME. Wrong genre for it.

This was on Hardcore. And even on Hardcore I found that final battle in the Omega DLC, infinitely easier than the entirety of CitDLC. I dunno. I found the difficulty pretty ridiculous. But, whatever. I get the fact that you guys enjoyed the difficulty. I'll never understand why the increase in difficulty was mandatory, but again, whatever. I'm moving on from this. I still enjoyed the DLC.

I loved Citadel, and the difficulty was great. Vanguard was awesome but Adept is just as much fun as long as you love a challenge. It made me think and work differently to get through so that was awesome and Flare really does make me adore Omega. But the Clone battle with a Vanguard is something really special, even if I prefer Adepts- just countering with constant Charge, Nova - rinse repeat and I had to be right on the timing.

It's not so much that it's harder, it's just with Citadel and Omega, they require different tactics. I think if it was the normal and the usual game tempo was the rare- we'd have just as much adjustment.

I played on Normal and once I've actually taken my original playthrough out, I'll probably do a Hardcore run. Now that I have the DLC for PC, I'm practically drooling at the prospect. I'm doing a decent push in Insanity in Mass Effect 2 on the 360 no less where my bad aim occasionally gets me killed (more like playing normally does) and I'm not difficulty fragile anymore.

ME3 has always been easier than ME2 and I'm glad the difficulty is back. ME3's insanity feels more like ME2's Veteran-Hardcore :(

That said, yeah, I got tripped up on Citadel DLC's Insanity. The one portion of the first level (described earlier in this thread) I actually ran out of ammo (what a twist for Bioware!), and the Clone match is very hard.

But that's kinda the point.

This is your greatest challenge of ME3. Approach it as that :). Yes I know that seems silly.

If you're referring to the initial combat being harder when you're evading the Cat6 mercs who are hunting you, I found the 'spike' in difficulty was mostly due to not having your armour on.  In your casual outfit you get no boosts to health, damage output, power cooldown, melee or anything, it's all base values.  Frankly it's a little odd that you get any shields at all, but I'm not about to complain because unarmoured, yeah, the combat's a bit tougher when all you have is a level 1 pistol designed for headshots and not a lot of ammo.

Having just finished it myself, I must say the combat side of things were ok, however, i found myself going renegade, even though i played through it with my good character,  just because it was a mushy cheese fest out of combat.  Had I known the full extent of it, I wouldn't have bothered with it.  I can see why people on here enjoyed it, but I sat and cringed at most of the cheesy interactions.

Citadel was humorous and I have no idea why people think it was hard. I mean for sure I wasn't on insanity but I actually found the first part fun as all I did was spam CS.

The only problem I've had with citadel dlc is at the very end of the fighting in the normandy. I had no problem with difficulty. Well, nothing too too hard. I did die repeatedly until I got the hang of it. :P My problem was with optimization of that last sequence. My rig, admittedly quite old, had no problem handling the game with all, and i mean ALL the HD textures loaded. But with that last segment, I had to dump all that, and my screen resolution down to 640x800 just so the game can run smoothly. What's with that?!

The difficulty isn't a problem, at this point you should master the game and your Shepard should be level 40 or 60 (don't remember max level in ME3), so you need to play it on insanity

The trick in the restaurant is to use that stoopid pistol to shoot everyone in the face. Otherwise, you're just asking for an tech explosion from those floaty droids.

If you can hack the droids, then it's much easier.

You can't judge something without experiencing it. It's like a blind person saying blue & green is a bad colour combination or a deaf person saying you have a bad singing voice.

Honestly, the series on a whole is quite easy, except for two scenarios. 1. Starting ME1 Insanity at Level 1(I have no idea what I was thinking) and 2. Solo Mirror Match on Insanity with all negative modifiers on(I made a huge mistake), apart from those two scenarios, the game's aren't really that hard. The easiest Insanity for me was ME2's, all that changed was that enemies had more protection, the only difference that made was that you stayed behind cover for an extra minute or so, that was the extent of that challenge.

Mass Effect 3's insanity took me off guard because I was expecting it to be like ME2's, I was not expecting a grenade and smokebomb orgy to occur, not to mention many enemies designed to force you out of cover, whereas ME2 hardly had any that did that. I quickly came to fear Turrets, stay out for cover a few seconds and you are done with these little guys on the field. I've mastered the game now so I don't die very often, the Citadel DLC wasn't that hard though I died a couple of times at the start when I didn't have my armour, though that was mostly my fault because I was too aggressive, attempting to play my usual in-your-face Vangaurd with Fire Explosions everywhere when I should have just played more reserved and Adept-like with the Pull+Shockwave+Reave combos, I didn't die again once I did that.

The Clone fight was alright, similar to the Tela Vasir fight, except obviously the Clone was more powerful. I didn't die, but it took me a while to kill him because he kept healing himself. It was a damn good fight though, I never realised just how fast Biotic Charging was, it's actually instantaneous. I feel sorry for those Cerberus Troopers now.

Citadel wins!

I probably died a few more times throughout the battles on this DLC than normal playing one difficulty down from Insanity. The clone fight was the hardest for me, but otherwise I didn't think it ridiculously difficult as a Vanguard (with nova only half upgraded). I do think MP made me better and it's surprisingly fun because you can try out so many build so quickly. Now having the pause is pure luxury vs. life saving.

The "boss battle" was so damn hard but oh did I feel so good after finally beating it. I wouldn't mind seeing more of that in a Bioware game.

I agree with the OP that the DLC was harder than the main game at the same difficulty level.  But that's what made it fun for me.  I could take any team and any class combination and play insanity and not die an entire game, the only time I reloaded was when I wanted to check different conversation choices, and yet the first death came in that bloody bar battle.  I was shocked and so happy that Bioware made the game tougher on insanity.  I can solo gold with many kits, still haven't managed a platinum solo but that's because I quit multiplayer to play other games, and to actually have the DLC be tougher was a goddess send.  The Citadel DLC is one of the things Bioware got right.
