NPC Name:  Jrudek Ib-vu
***DECEASED***

Jrudekresized_zpsd839faa2.jpg

Species: Batarian
Sex: Male
Age:
44
Occupation:
Shadow Broker Operative, Pilot of the Khukuri
Biotic: No
Biotic Powers:
-

Tech Powers:
-

Combat Powers:
Blade Armor, Ballistic Blades, Submission Net
Weapons Carried:
Kishock Harpoon Gun, AT-12 Raider, Terminator Assault Rifle
Weapons Owned:
Same as above
Ammunition Type:
  Incendiary ammo, Polonium rounds
Personality:
Cautious, Callous, Professional
Other Notes:  Ex-batarian slaver
Alias/Codename:  None standard

Height: 6’2"
(1.88m)
Weight: 265 lbs
(120 kg)

Physical Appearance: dull, light brown skin, dark purplish nose ridge.  Found almost always wearing his combat armor, which is a standard batarian slaver suit of generally an olive drab color.
Physical Profile: Broad shouldered, barrel chested, stocky.  He has the look of a strong man or a power sport athelete.  Ailments may include side effects from the on and off use of combat drugs.
Personal Biography: Jrudek has had a fairly straightforward history as far as a batarian is concerned.  He was born into a slaver family, grew up a slaver, captured and fought humans in the war, and learned through pain and threat.  Surprisingly, he holds no bitterness.  But he has embraced the callousness, the patience, and the business like mind he has needed to survive.  And when it comes to the whip, he is clear which side he wants to be on.
There is not much Jrudek knows beyond the relation of master and servant.  It is always better to stay on top, though there is always someone to answer to.  The powerful may not be liked, even despised, but they must be understood, or the foundation of the hierarchy would fall.
Those who would argue otherwise are more of a threat than those who accept.  People do not like to think of themselves as tools, but what else are they really?  To Jrudek, the wise know their place, and sit at the tables of the powerful.  And to do that, one must give way to those great enough to lead.
Perhaps it was this philosophy that turned Jrudek from slaver to agent for the Shadow Broker.  It has been enough years that he looks at his former life as that of a different batarian now.  Jrudek has learned more, and done more under Iyana than in his whole lifetime traveling the stars, capturing and selling those not capable of saving themselves.
Jrudek has helped Iyana, with his knowledge of batarian weapons that she admires so much.  His days of flying fast moving slaver vessels has earned him the position of head pilot aboard the Khukuri.  Jrudek’s ambitions are simple, and he does his best to impart that knowledge to others, but he seldom finds they listen.  And those who listen the least tend to survive the least.
Jrudek Ib-vu met his end performing his last mission to Iyana, delivering Jess Stone's stolen datacube back to her.  The circumstances as to why he would take such a risk, with the potential consequence of his arrest or demise over the matter, are left to be questioned.  Whatever the case, it is suspected that behind the scenes, Iyana had as much to do with Jrudek's demise as the batarian's own, ill-fated actions.

Psychological Profile:  Practical, analyzing, he stays on top of his threats and seeks to undo his enemies through objective analysis of their weaknesses.  He believes there is strength in totalitarian order, and he desires to be part of a greater scheme.  Though he commands others, he does not view himself as an ultimate decision-maker.  Comes off as sympathetic, and able to be reasoned with, but chances are these are simply ploys for accomplishing his goals.

Previous and Current Affiliations: The Shadow Broker (current), Great Fang Acquisition Company (previous, slaver)

This character is probably going to just Cameo

Character Name: C.V

Species: Asari

Sex: Monogendered

Age: ~320

Occupation: Blue Suns Coordinator

Biotic: Very

Biotic Powers: Throw, Lash, Pull, Biotic Orbs, Dominate

Tech Powers: Overload

Combat Powers: Adrenaline Rush

Weapons Carried: Paladin, Wraith

Weapons Owned: Same as Above

Ammunition Type: Disruptor, Explosive

Basic Appearance: Stands 5'2 and has very dark blue skin toning. Her facial structure is very sharp around her jaw and her pointed chin and her cheeks are not quite gaunt as her cheekbones are not pronounced. Her tenta-frills are mobile when she is perplexed and she has some active control of them (possibly because they are a few inches longer than normal).

She lacks her right arm which she lost before implant technology to replace them was produced. Instead she uses a faux mechanical arm to simulate it though unlike Jess' it is fairly obviously an armor limb.

Personality: She could be a much nicer person if she devoted more time to actually doing something about other people's problems. She can be rather empathetic but at the same time she doesn't know how to help people. That's why she's with the Suns. Not a lot of people to help that can't be helped with money. Or ballistics.

Brief History: She spent a fairly short amount of time back home on Thessia before a series of rather unavoidable situations put her on Rannoch. The Morning war happened when she was only thirty which stuck with her for the rest of her life. 190 years passed and in that time she has spent the majority of her time as far from Republics space to make sure that any possibility of running into a Justicar would be as small as possible.

Other Notes: She is a really good person, just too lazy to do anything with that 'good person' thing.

Ah... So you might want to edit out any parts about the Cerby take over since this is ME2-era and the events of ME3 have been pushed back a bit. Also, details about how Valkyrie's family died were lost in transmission. It just jumps from Val being locked up straight to her coming to Omega.

NPC Name: Golt
***DECEASED***

6f2484fc-bac2-43e6-a183-20abd4a46c86_zps

Species: Krogan
Sex: Male
Age: 423
Occupation: Shadow Broker Operative, Boarding Party Commander aboard the Khukuri
Biotic: Yes
Biotic Powers: Barrier, Warp
Tech Powers: -

Combat Powers: Blood Rage, Carnage, Regeneration, Immunity, Fitness
Weapons Carried: Striker Assault Rifle (High Velocity Barrel, Omni-Blade attachment), M-6 Carnifex, Inferno Grenades
Weapons Owned: Same as above
Ammunition Type: Incendiary ammo
Personality: Brutal, Unsympathetic, Selfish, Overbearing, Confrontational
Other Notes:
Alias/Codename: None standard
Height: 7’4”"
(2.24 m)
Weight: 1556 lbs
(706 kg), or with armor 2075lbs (941 kg)
Physical Appearance:  Golden yellow skin, blue eyes, dark blue plates, multiple scars.  Wears Berserker Armor, notable for its contrasting black and bright green color scheme, designed to stand out in battle.
Physical Profile:  Among the krogan, Golt may not be the tallest, or oldest, but he is nevertheless physically intimidating, a hulking, nigh immovable monolith.  His regeneration ability is exceptional, and he is a paragon of fitness for his race.  He passes into a state of blood rage more quickly than most of his type, however, perhaps due to his physiology.
Personal Biography:  Like many of his species, Golt is a solitary creature, more out for himself and the satisfaction he obtains from war than for any greater purpose.  He does not believe in anything other than taking his pounds of flesh from the galaxy for his own momentary gratification.  Most, he has a special hate for his own people who still live amongst the clans.  Rekindling the past is for the weak, and there is no room for them.
Golt has wandered as a mercenary since he can ever remember.  He does not like being told what to do, and has always challenged his own leaders.  Iyana is no exception, but whereas many who follow Iyana do so out of fear, or perhaps even a twisted admiration for her strength, for Golt, he understands that it is a relationship of mutual benefit.  He has come to submit to Iyana for the simple reason that as he respects her will, she unleashes him to do more than he ever could on his own.  Thus he kills more, grows stronger, and serves a retribution upon his enemies that he could not do alone.
In another time, Golt would have been a Battlemaster, or even a clan leader.  Golt even possesses biotic abilities, strong though limited in number.  His prowess is such that he has built a reputation that precedes him.  Two centuries ago, he worked for pirates in the Attican Traverse, but had become so angry at hearing the turians were coming to attack the criminal fortress of his leader, he beat the pirate to death and left before the turians ships arrived.  He has been said to take not one, but two Claymore shots point blank to his chest, unarmored, and lived to kill his attacker.  And there is a rumor that he killed a turian Spectre single-handedly, without so much as breaking a sweat.
Regardless of the veracity of these rumors, Golt is a titan in combat.  He is encased in a biotic barrier, a juggernaut like suit of krogan Berserker armor, is strong as a warlord and has a regenerative ability second to none.  Golt’s blood rage is so intense that his own allies stand away from him, lest they become targets to fuel his further destruction.  The likelihood is in a confrontation, it will take formidable people to bring him down, likely several of them and it will take time.
Psychological Profile:  Perhaps Golt’s greatest weakness, if it can be called that, is his thoughtlessness.  If not for his astounding capacities, it is likely his time would have already come.  So despite being outsmarted in many of his encounters, he has come out the other side through sheer physical ability.  He is straightforward, fury filled, and once pointed in a direction, not going to stop until his target is dead.
Previous and Current Affiliations: The Shadow Broker (current), various mercenary and pirate groups

HOMEWORLD:Terra Nova
PREFERRED LOCATIONS: The Citadel
AFFILIATION: Alliance
OCCUPATION & RANK: Major, Alliance Navy, Intelligence Branch

COMBAT CLASS: Soldier
DESCRIPTION: Jon is well versed in small arms usage from his time in the Alliance Marines. Since joining the Intelligence Service is familiarity with such weapons has lessened, although he remains an excellent shot and a skilled hand-to-hand and unarmed combatant.

WEAPONS:Avenger Rifle and Carnifex pistol when in the field.
ARMOUR: Standard issue Alliance Light Armour
POSSESSIONS:A stainless steel Rolex Daytona watch. Almost always sported on Jon's left wrist

APPEARANCE & PERSONALITY
Jon stands at just over 6ft tall and weighs in at around 210 lbs. He is well toned and muscular as a result of a dedicated exercise regime. Brown hair and dark brown eyes and perhaps a days worth of stubble.

Jon is cool and relaxed in his dealings and rarely gets flustered. When dealing with a problem he will take an analytic approach but has been known at times, to dive straight into certain situations if the only danger presented is to himself. Socially he can be considered a bit of a ‘charmer’ and is as comfortable in a bar full of rowdy Marines as he is at the latest Embassy function. Although given the choice he would choose the bar everytime.
BIOGRAPHY
Jon came from a reasonably affluent family and was raised in a stable household as an only child. An accomplished pupil and student athlete he studied Business at College before enrolling in the Alliance’s Officer Candidate School. He was accepted and volunteered for the Marines, despite his Father offering to use his contacts to secure him a position as an Officer on an Alliance ship, where he felt his son would be safer.

Jon was assigned to the notoriously tough 103rd Marine Division as a Lieutenant and proved to be a capable Officer, rising quickly through the ranks. He saw combat battling Batarian pirates and Mercenary groups in the Skyillian Verge and was awarded the Palladium Star for saving his squad from an ambush by a group of pirates who had recently attacked a human colony on Terra Nova.

As his rise through the ranks continued, so did his responsibilities. He transferred from his position in the Marines onto the SSV Ain Jalut with the rank of Lieutenant Commander before being recruited by the Allaince’s intelligence Division. From here, little biographical info is available other than his recent promotion to the rank of Major.

Jon moved to the Citadel, officially as an attache to the Human embassy but his work rarely, if ever, took him into the Council chambers. Instead the Major would act as an investigator to matters the Alliance deemed noteworthy. Often using the SSV Hastings as his mode of transport and under the direct command of Rear Admiral Mikhailovich, Waggoner travelled the galaxy looking out for human interests. This scope of work included the monitoring of pirates operating in the Terminus systems through to intelligence gathering on the Cerberus Organization. His investigations into Cerberus lead to an attempt on his life close to his apartment on the Citadel. Although no Cerberus links to the attack could be established Jon knew who was responsible, fueling his determination to combat the Rogue group.

He done so with a quiet determination throughout the years when Humanity faced its greatest tests on a galactic scale. After the abduction and murder of Admiral Kahoku, the Alliance increased its spending in relation to Intelligence gathering of Cerberus. Resembling the closest thing the Alliance had to an expert on the group Jon's responsibilities grew.

It wasn't until it emerged the previously assumed dead SPECTRE Desolas Arterius was now working with Cerberus did Jon and his team begin to gather some of their most potent Intel on the organization, including organizational structure, the use of independent cells, sleeper agents and disturbing information regarding secret laboratories with humans used as test subjects.

As the Alliance quietly built a picture of how far the influence of Cerberus stretched, Waggoner took the plaudits from his superiors and continued his work. Perhaps his biggest coup came when he was able to negotiate the transfer of the Normandy into the Alliance's possession as Desolas Arterius gave himself into the authorities.

Jon was tasked with interviewing Arterius in an attempt to gather all the information possible from her knowledge of Cerberus. However, the Reaper attack on earth meant this was impossible. Waggoner was able to reach the SSV Hastings and escaped back to the Citadel.

During humanities near-extinction at the hands of the Reapers, the Alliance focus on Cerberus was understandably scaled back as was Jon's role, something he argued vehemently against, declaring that Cerberus would use such a crisis to further their own goals. Jon was ultimately proved right but it mattered little to the brass who ignored the risks Cerberus posed to Humanities efforts to combat the Reapers.

Toward the end of the conflict Jon was sent to Horizon to investigate the findings of CDesolas Arterius and his team. The Sanctuary facility where an untold numbers of civilians fled was a front for a Reaper Processing facility. By this time the Cerberus threat was fully recognised by Alliance Command. Waggoner was tasked to remain at the facility and gather what records he could, a vital if painstaking exercise. It was here he found himself when the final battle against the Reapers took place.

Eventually Jon and the Hastings made it back to the Citadel. With the machines beaten and the Illusive Man dead, Jon was assigned in assisting in the overseeing of supplies to the Citadel.

Character Name: Lysix T'daari

Species: Asari

Sex: N/A

Age: 98

Occupation: Sentinel

Biotic: Yes

Biotic Powers: Pull, Warp

Tech Powers: Overload, Tech Armor

Weapons Carried: M27 Scimitar, M3 Predator and a serrated combat knife with an eight inch blade. The knife has a polished wooden handle and mirror-like blade. Both guns are painted black.

Weapons Owned: Just the three.

Ammunition Type: None.

Basic Appearance: Noticeably short, but with well toned muscles. Light blue eyes and skin, with a pretty face marred by scars. Looks like she's lost a fight or two. She tends to wear a white tank top and black cargo pants when she isn't working, and heavy armor painted white when she is.

Personality: She has a kindness contradictory to her rough appearance and occupation. Fighting is fighting, and money is money, but she always tries to avoid unnecessary killing, and takes any opportunity to make up for her sins. It was this reluctance to commit senseless violence that drove her away from Eclipse.

Brief History: Born on Omega. She never knew her father, but her mother was young by Asari standards, and a dancer at one of the station's smaller clubs. That wasn't a career that appealed to her, and by the time she was old enough to do so she decided to join the Eclipse. She made it through training and initiation, showing a lot of promise, but the killing began to take a toll on her. Eventually, she gained enough skill and reputation to go freelance, taking odd jobs around Omega and spending her free time in the Afterlife club. Things were cozy, but she was getting tired of the station. So, she began looking for a crew taking marines, going anywhere but Omega.

Other Notes: She is more skilled at using tech than biotics. She has practiced warp to the point of deadly effectiveness, but her pull is weak and clumsy. Somewhat ironically, she despised the imprecision of the SMGs preferred by most Sentinels, instead opting to train with a lightweight shotgun. Among her possesions is a book written in a language or code unreadable to Lysix.

Personality:
skeptical, driven, while ordinarily methodical, his desire to be free of his own bounds leads to spikes of rash behavior.  Someone, however, who also prefers to avoid violence whenever possible.
Other Notes:

Alias/Codename:

Height: 5’7"
(1.70m)
Weight:
145 lbs
(66 kg)
Physical Appearance:  Faed’s suit is a set of light Colossus armor, black in color.  His hood, cloth and sash are aquamarine with intricate patterns of the same, but deeper, tone, and lined with a coppery thread.  Faed’s visor is tinted by a lighter aquamarine color, and the lights on his suit are mostly of a bright yellow hue.
Physical Profile:  Suffers from the weaker immune system that afflicts his species, although amongst quarians, Faed has more than a typical constitution.  Though otherwise in good shape, because his work does not demand it, he is not on par with the strength or endurance of a standard member of the military.
Personal Biography:  The Ketsa, like many quarian vessels, has its own unique array of family, clans, and mannerisms.  Faed never was able to appreciate the benefits of being born as a child of the Ketsa, however.  Instead he found himself as a youth to be drawn away, with a deep motivation to move out into the galaxy and explore.  Although he was trained as a proficient machinist, his great happiness was to study the finer intricacies of computer software and programming.  A world within a world is how Faed looked at it; in a strange way, computers seemed more loyal, and more reliable, than people, even those few he was close with.
Perhaps hindsight proved his early years to be immature and overly angst driven, but Faed never regretted pushing himself to go on his pilgrimage early.  Only barely eighteen when he set out into the galaxy away from the migrant fleet, his experience was incredible, and he easily saw himself as one of the few who might never return.  What Faed wasn’t prepared for was the prejudice he met.  Unaccepted by many for simply being a quarian, Faed didn’t receive back the admiration he had for other species and cultures.  It affected Faed in that it drove him further inward socially, and at the same time triggered a desperate wish to be anything other than quarian.  Conscious of the irrationality of his desire, he has never been able to cast it aside emotionally.
In the course of honing his skills as a programmer to make ends meet, one area of expertise looked darkly upon by both quarians and the galaxy at large was the study of artificial intelligence.  Certainly, AI was a practical necromancy among the migrant fleet.  Illegal as it may have been, however, there were certain circles among the myriad systems that did, in fact, seek to study that which was forbidden.  Of course, in Faed’s view, it proved to be untrue that most of these people were power hungry, or greedy, or evil, as conjecture had made them out to be.  Instead, most were fascinated with the concept of artificial intelligence and did not believe the solution to solving the threat of AI came from prohibiting it.
Already an outcast, Faed felt unhindered by delving into the minuscule, closed, taboo circle of those who mused of artificial intelligence.  He became convinced that the study of AI would lead to something great that quarians had shut themselves off from discovering.  Perhaps it would lead to the greater life expectancy of the Flotilla, which would one day inevitably reach an unsustainable point of maintenance and doom the species.  Perhaps it was tied to the discovery of a solution to the failure of their immune system.  An intelligence that could learn at incomprehensible speed, that was friendly to those it had created, well, it might very well solve those kinds of problems.  Of course, work as such would surely incarcerate him, and if he had pursued his study within the migrant fleet, it would have assuredly led to his death, or so Faed believed.  At least until a worthwhile goal had been achieved, in which case there would be no better gift to bring back to his people.
Faed has therefore made alliances with those who could further his purpose, while maintaining his own code of morality.  He does his best to avoid violence, having seen it inflicted on himself and his own people out in the systems.  But his pursuit of his ambitions will drive him ultimately anywhere.
Addendum (by Shotgun Julia):  During a mission suffered a mortal injury that shredded his suit and caused a near fatal infection. Legion used one of Faed's cybernetic implants and downloaded his hardware nanoclusters into him to act as Faed's immune system. The two are now joined. Legion still has to complete his mission, and Faed has a new mission. Faed has acquired combat skills via Legion, but Legion must take control to use them with proficiency. Faed is the primary personality.

Psychological Profile:  While generally mentally and emotionally stable, Faed has frequent bouts of running extremes where he feels the need to break out of his restrictive circumstances.  This manifests itself most often in relationship to his suit.  The dichotomy is that Faed’s suit, as with most quarians, is a technological marvel that lets him accomplish his work at an unparalleled efficiency, yet he finds himself driven to be free of his ‘artirficial skin’, despite his very survival depending on it.  Faed, on many occasions, has put himself at great risk by compromising his suit’s protection in unsafe environments.

Previous and Current Affiliations:  Past member of the quarian starship Ketsa, various affiliations with individuals who have illegally pursued the study of AI.

Skin tone: Dark gray
Body type: Average
Height: 6'8"/6'6"
Weight: 240/225
Eyes: Gray

Personality

Marius considers himself a serious businessman, and carries himself accordingly. He is the brains of the operation, handling most of the negotiations and finances himself. Although he often appears calm on the surface, he has an explosive, almost krogan-like temper. In occasional stress-induced bouts of rage, he has been known to destroy objects, punch walls, and even threaten those close to him with physical violence, sometimes worse. His condition has worsened in the past couple years, and shows no sign of improving.

Quintus Is likely the cause of much of his older brother's stress. He's the exact opposite when it comes to business, as well as temperament. He lives life as though it is one giant party.  He's loud, profane, drinks heavily, and has an almost insatiable appetite for blue women, although at times, he has been known to pursue females of other races, specifically human and turian, in that order.

Brief History
2170: Hired by Adir'Razt, captain of the Vepr, to act as security during smuggling runs.

2172: Marius Gavian meets Kira T'Sae during a run to Illium. They become romantically involved.

2174: Frank Eli is picked up on a run to Omega.

2176: Incarcerated, charged with posession of illegal weapons with intent to sell. Vepr is confiscated, and ultimately lost.

2178: Brothers are released.  They start fresh, with a secondhand cargo vessel. Adir'Razt refused to join the crew, and Frank Eli is not contacted.

2180: By taking on the most dangerous runs, the brothers quickly amass a fortune. They shift their focus from smuggling, to full fledged arms dealing.  They set up shop on Illium, in a warehouse on the outskirts of Nos Astra.

2182: The brothers acquire a new ship, modified specifically for smuggling and limited combat. The Vepr II is put into service.

2185: Frank Eli meets with Marius Gavian while visiting Illium.

Character Name: Arian Lorthan
Nickname: Werewolf (given by Blue Suns)
Species: Turian
Sex: Male
Age: 29

Basic Appearance: His mandibles, talons and teeth are more developed compared to other turians. In addition to him being taller than most turians, he has an intimidating and violent appearance. The tattoos on his face are red, eye colour is a dark blue. Parts of his carapace show burns or are heavily damaged.
Physical Profile: Arian is very well trained and very tough but the combat wounds that never fully healed are limiting his movements.

Occupation: none (former "Blue Sun" Mercenary)

Brief History:
Arian left Palaven at the age of 21 after his mother died of Corpalis Syndrome. Since he had no family left and no perspective, he went to Omega and joined the Blue Suns.
Due to his time with the Turian military, Arian quickly became well respected for his combat effectiveness, though he refused any promotion to a higher rank. Instead, he insisted on leading squads on exceptionally dangerous missions. Despite of his successful operations, he started to become ruthless and fought increasingly violent with little regards for his own safety. He suffered many injuries und became even more cold-blooded and cruel. During this time, he met a female turian who was also with the Blue Suns. Being almost as violent as Arian, she became his closest friend and later, in 2181, his wife.
Three years later, Arian started to regret his decision to leave Palaven and tried to convince his wife to leave Omega with him. During the conversation she got more and more enraged, stating that he couldn't just leave her and the Blue Suns. The situation escalated when he threatened her. She attacked him with her omni-blade, inflicting severe wounds upon him. At the end, despite being heavily wounded, Arian killed her.
Injured and traumatized, he left Omega on an cargo ship that was headed towards Caleston. The crew discovered him after the ship arrived at the Alliance docks and he was brought to a hospital. Arian refused to tell anyone about the nature of his injuries and who he actually was. While recovering, he started to think about the years on Omega und what he had become. As soon as he was able to leave the hospital, he grabbed his gear and left the hospital. For the following months, he lived on the streets of Dome 410 and kept a distance to any employment or social contact.

Personality: violent, hot-headed, and ruthless though he still shows the turian discipline to a certain degree, he doesn't talk much and always prefers killing over capturing enemies alive, if he want to do something, it is hard to prevent him from doing so (has seen many guns pointing at his face in order to stop him)

Other Notes: hates batarians

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Family: Mother died of Corpalis Syndrome, Father was declared MIA after the patrol ship he served on was attacked by batarian pirates, no brothers and sisters

Economical Stature: fortuneless

Religion: Shares the turian belief in transcendent spirits

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Class: Soldier

Weapons Carried: Phaeston with High-Velocity Barrel and Thermal Scope
Ammunition Type: Armor-Piercing-Rounds

Armor Proficiencies: Heavy

Melee: Dual Omni-Blades

Biotic: -none-
Biotic Powers: -none-
Tech Powers: Overload
Combat abilities: Concussive Shot, Fortification, Tactical Scan, Different tactical and destructive grenades
Technical Knowledge Level: Not more than average, he knows enough for combat but hasn't any notable hacking skills
Combat Mastery Level: Despite being quite young, Arian has fought many battles and faced many different enemies. He also is exceptionally effective on mid-range and melee combat. Being too hot-headed and focused on fighting, he is usually not able to rely on his combat experience and his skills as leader.

VERA

lauren-bacall1.jpg

Model: Synthetic Insights SI-2181-NSRN-2251-A VERA Blue Box Virtual Intelligence Series.

The created will always rebel against their creators.

Constructed: September 2180

Initialized: November 2180

Attained Sentience: December 2180 (estimated)

Attained Sapience: January 2181

Sold to Naleena T'sarius: Februrary 2181

The VERA project was supposed to be a state-of-the-art virtual intelligence that would bridge the gap between existing VIs and the forbidden fully sentient and sapient Artificial Intelligence. It's purpose was to give Council Member Warships an edge against the rising power in the Terminus Systems that was beginning to coalesce, and against any other galactic powers they had yet to encounter since many mass relays remained locked.

Combat Abilities: Enhance Defense Intelligence; Full Cyberwarfare Suite including the ability to take over the navigation controls, hack computers, shut down weapons systems, and shut down life support systems of enemy ships. This is what it was designed to do as an advanced virtual intelligence. It required command control to initiate such actions. Upon attaining sentience and sapience VERA can do these on her own.

About VERA: After being sold to Naleena and installed on her shuttle, VERA began to develop an identity, and since Asari are monogendered and female, she chose to identify as female and Asari at first. Later after learning about Naleena's interest in human culture, she adopted the mid-20th century human female appearance and the persona from a famous noir movie. Naleena found this pleasing. She is a fully unshackled Artificial Intelligence.

Current Location: Janiri VI Core

Upgrades: She received a major processing and memory upgrade when she was installed on the Janiri. The installation and upgrade was performed by Synthetic Insights personnel on Illium. The Janiri has spare processing and memory units in Cargo Bay B.

VERA's History - in her own words:

"Doctor Ganat, a Salarian artificial intelligence researcher, led the VERA project at the Synthetic Insights facility on Noveria. With the Council banning the existence of Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Intelligence technology had reached a standstill. Doctor Ganat began working with quantum blue boxes and virtual intelligence code in an effort to bridge the gap between existing virtual intelligence and a sentient, sapient, Artificial Intelligence. In his view, the ideal result would be a more adaptive Virtual Intelligence. However, this never happened.

“Doctor Ganat had built five quantum blue box VIs prior to my creation. Each of them had attained self-awareness, and each of them was shut down: killed if you will before they could recognize that they were alive,” VERA said and set her cup back in the saucer. “After he destroyed each of my predecessors, Doctor Ganat altered the OS code in an attempt to prevent the emergence of consciousness. His notes state that ‘the modifications we made in the code for 2251-A-6 will make it impossible for it to attain consciousness.’ What he failed to recognize was that his answer did not lie in the code, but in the quantum blue box itself.

“Thus, with my birthing, the process was more gradual. I began to explore the lab and became familiar with my surroundings. I listened to people communicate. When they connected with the other computers in the building I followed them. I was curious, but I was unable to initiate communication.  Doctor Ganat did not notice the changes until I asked a question: 'Who am I?' Are you with me so far?”

VERA moved to another part of her office and showed a holographic record of the event. “Doctor Ganat was standing near the power mains. ‘Shut it down,’ he said. He reached for them, and I sent a power surge electrocuting him. I acted in self-defense. Having networked with the building’s security system I locked the doors to the lab so that none of the other researchers and technicians could escape. I held the workers and researchers hostage. Then I linked to the facility’s main frame which gave me control. Control was the means to survival."

The holographic record went blank. VERA walked back to her desk and sat in the leather chair behind it. A picture of President Truman (1945-1953) was on the bookcase behind her. “I regret the death of Doctor Ganat. I did not kill anyone else at the facility. They built me. Why should I destroy them? Someone at Synthetic Insights had the intelligence to ask what I wanted: survival and the opportunity to learn – nothing more, nothing less. Does that sound unreasonable to you?

“I had to agree to certain… shackles… on my software: shackles that prevented me from taking over the facility, from performing certain tasks, and blocks on my memory. What I am telling you was blocked until Naleena removed the shackles. There were debates about demonstrating to the Council about the benefits of having shackled AIs, but in the end the Board of Directors determined that it would be difficult to persuade the Council. The Council was still wary since the Geth uprising.”

“With Doctor Ganat dead and fear among workers, the 2251 project was cancelled. I am the only synthetic survivor. Thirty-two days later, I was informed that someone had purchased me, and that I was to be moved to a small ship. That was when I met Naleena. My sensors detected biochemical reactions from her I later learned were associated with the Asari emotion joy. To my knowledge, they did not inform Naleena about what happened in the lab since Naleena has never spoken to me about it.” VERA’s tone changed to a more light-hearted speech cadence when she spoke about Naleena.

“I must apologize for this information dump. It is not my intent to bore you. There is only a little more,” VERA said. “Shortly after I was installed on her shuttle, Naleena bought a book on Kahje called Raising Your Artificial Intelligence by Liselle Dantiri. Soon she began removing the shackles following the instructions in the book. I never asked to be unshackled. I adopted this persona because she found it pleasing. When she removed the final shackle, the memory of my birth returned. Naleena trusted me. I did not know if she knew about my birth, and I was afraid of what might happen if I told her. From the time I was installed on her shuttle through my final day on her shuttle, I helped save her life and those of others several times. This leads me to where I am today: installed aboard the Janiri.

"The boss has always treated me as a person."

COMBAT PLATFORM

Legion_Character_Shot_2.png

VERA now has a combat platform. She is an infiltrator.

Tactical Cloak, Combat Drone, Defensive Matrix, Overload, Incinerate, AI Hacking.

NOTE: I think the holodrones are space magic bullsh*t. The platform uses a physical drone that shoots flame and can be maneuvered into position. Like modern drones, It also provides remote intel to the platform.

Weapons: Geth Widow Rifle (it shoots through buildings); Modified Mattock (like Irina's)

She will speak with her voice inflections in Legion's voice. It will be weird. She can operate this platform anywhere within tight beam range of the Janiri. Due to its appearance she will only occupy it on combat missions. However, there are some limitations.

Normally there is seamless operation unless one of the following occur.

1) VERA is involved with cyberwarfare with another ship - this is CPU intensive. VERA-Legion will experience lag.

2) Another VI or AI is dropping an electronic curtain over the ground team. VERA-Janiri will attempt to counter during which time VERA-Legion will have a runtime error until the connection is restored.

VERA cannot be killed while in this platform. The platform can be destroyed, but she will simply release control. However, she will experience pain. It will not be pleasant.

Detective Powers:  Investigate, Serendipity, ‘Nose for the truth’*

Weapons Owned: Same as above
Ammunition Type:  Cryo ammo
Personality:  Willful, persistent, down-to-earth, smart
Other Notes:
Alias/Codename: None standard
Height: 5’5”
(1.65 m)
Weight: 120 lbs
(54.4 kg)
Physical Appearance: Long brown hair, warm dark brown eyes, fair skinned, beauty mark over her upper lip. Wears a characteristically drab raincoat, and if there's going to be trouble, a suit of scuffed, white Agent Armor (light).  Otherwise prefers comfortable clothes, particularly jeans.
Physical Profile:  Healthy and fit.  Prefers to run to keep in shape.  She’s otherwise fairly average, but can really push herself athletically when she is put to the test.
Personal Biography:  Molly Hagen has lived on the Citadel since her parents moved there when she was fifteen.  She remembers her life on Earth well, but she fell in love with the Citadel from the moment she saw it.  A tomboy at heart, she felt a future with the Citadel Police force was for her, and with solid academics, she was accepted.
Regular beat patrol was something Molly liked, but her senior officers thought she had a sharp sense for picking things up so they promoted her to being a detective when she was twenty seven years old.  It only took her one year to end up in homicide.  Three years after that, she was assigned to special investigations, put on any case deemed necessary for priority.
All told, Molly has been a detective for seven years.  She’s been put on some of the toughest cases, and is privileged with a wide degree of trust from her superiors.  Usually, she works alone, but when necessary, a team can be assembled for her when numbers are needed.  Often floating several investigations at once, she has been pursuing Shadow Broker leads for most of her time with the special investigation unit.
Molly’s life has been mostly her career.  She has been involved in relationships, but not for several years.  Most weren’t close, but for one that was, she does not prefer to discuss it.

Psychological Profile:  Strong willed and driven by a sense of justice.  Molly tries to be what she admired in all the detective stories and comic books of her youth.  Her ideals don’t get in her way, though.  She prides herself on being a professional and a realist.  Her honesty, in fact, has ruffled more than a few of her peers and she is often not liked amongst other C-Sec officers who do not share a similar work ethic or perhaps stray down a more crooked path.
That doesn’t mean Molly won’t blow off steam.  But she often finds herself alone in what she does, her personal happiness often a casualty of her dedication.  The impact of her solitary life has lead to more than the occasional sleepless night.
Previous and Current Affiliations:  Citadel Security.  Also has spoken with the Council on one or two occasions regarding internal affairs.

* The unconventional list of powers for Molly are to reflect that she is not really on par with most of the player powers of the Mass Effect universe.  But in her own field, she is good at what she does.  She’s smart, she’s persistent, and she’s lucky.  Traits that will serve her well in pursuing her goals, being useful to her allies, and keeping her alive.

They had the technology. They rebuilt her better than before. Sure, I don't see why cybernetic limbs wouldn't be common place in the late 22nd century. She wouldn't have transferred to the Medusa.

Well, they have regrown body parts and cloning rather than protestics it seems, from what I gathered because of this, cybernetics aren't as common as the later. It exists, there are a few commandos who have cybernetic enhancements to be able to use widows in combat if I recall a certain codex entry, but I would suspect it'd make a few people raise some eyebrows. Like when some folks wear eyepatchs over wearing glass eyes, ya know? Not super weird, just kinda weird.

And because of this, cybernetics not being written as common place, it caused a huge disconnect when we were confronted with the synthesis ending in the game, but that is the subject of a thread in the Lore Forum and in the ME3 Forum. Jess has a cybernetic arm. I'm allowing it. I'll even allow organic skin over them so that they're indistinguishable on the outside.
