In ME1, you can only disagree. There is no alternative. So... congratulations?

That conversation gives you a "choice" between thumbing your nose at their situation and making excuses for the Geth. I rank it as just as bad as the conversation that forces Shepard to compare the Genophage to the First Contact War. This was one area ME2 and 3 actually improved on, in that they gave us more options.

I thought the top options were more agreeable with the Quarian final solution. But I could very well be wrong, I've never picked them. My first reaction when she says that they decided to 'turn them off' or however she phrases it, was a facepalm followed by ferious shaking of the head.

Is this one of the conversations where the line in the dialogue wheel is very different from what Shepard actually says?

Yep. I tried all three options. The top option argues that the genocide of the Quarian people was an act of self-defense. You already said you chose the bottom ones, so you're familiar with it. I ignore the option to pursue the topic further because both options say the same thing and make an even bigger ass out of Shepard ("It's hard to feel sorry for you, you tried to exterminate blah blah blah" no, Shepard, she didn't - she's spent her whole life paying the price for something that happened generations before she was born).

Seems to me that that and the FCW talk were ones where new players get railroaded into making insulting or bluntly ignorant statements and get schooled for it ("Asari can reproduce with each other?") as a means of introducing them to contentious topics in the MEU. Sucks for subsequent playthroughs being forced to make those same statements again.

Exactly what would a defense of the quarian position look like? Your first response to discovering a new form of intelligent life is attempted genocide? Are we talking about adding an organic-supremacist position for RP purposes?

ME2 and ME3 let you roleplay as not recognizing synthetics as alive. It's not a position I agree with, but I could see something having been included. Something perhaps acknowledging that Council law (as established in Revelation) was what compelled them to shut down the Geth. Is what they did any worse than what Shepard does on Luna? It seems to me the only real difference is that Shepard succeeded.

Personally, I'd rather there simply be an option that removes condemnation or advocacy altogether. Perhaps as simple as "And here you are, paying the price centuries later. I'm sorry."

Something that doesn't compel me to either thumb my nose at their present situation or defend the near-extermination of her species.

I will never cheat on an LI

my second playthrough with my first character, he was a maleshep who romanced ash in me1, and after horizon he figured the relationship was dead (as I figure you can't call someone you're dating a traitor in that particular fashion, and expect them to think there's still a future in that relationship). so he kind of dropped her for tali, though I'm not sure if that counts as cheating as he never got back with Ashley after that point.

I have never killed Shiala

I suppose I can add a few others to my earlier list.

I have never killed Rana Thanoptis(that is definitely going to change in this play-through).

I have never given Veetor to Cerberus

I have never held a gun to Conrad Verner's face before(probably going to change that this time around)

Hey Von, I thought you found it awkward when Shiala was "flirty" with Shepard on Illium. Is that because you don't like her? Or are you afraid that she'll meet the same fate as Liara's assistant when you find out that she's the Observer? If the former, why not kill Shiala?

No, it's because it came out of the blue and I did not see how it was warranted.

Shiala never showed anything like this before, yet suddenly she is coming on to you. Didn;t fit.

Hmm, if given the opportunity to romance Shiala, would you do so? It's not like Liara's initial romance dialogue in ME1 wasn't somewhat jarring either(at least for some).

I don't know, Shiala is quite an interesting character; depends how she was written to be more inclusive.

ME1 Liara is pretty crap to be honest. I much prefer her ME2 and ME3 incarnations.

Heh, killing Rana is one of the things I always do.  I find it hard to keep someone who tells you point blank that she's indoctrinated alive.

Speaking of Virmire, I never let the Salarian out of the cell(mainly because him running at the door head first still makes me laugh, even after so many Shepards)

I've never had the Salarian Councilor die(though he will die next time)

I've never shot Padok, though he's also never successfully cured the Genophage either(unlikely to change, Padok's only redeeming scene is when he envisions Krogan mating, which while funny isn't as good as Mordin and Joker talking about sexing EDI, or Mordin singing The Krogan Queen)

I've never done that either. Then again I always refuse to let her on the ship or invite her on for the sole intention of kicking her off.

That's another thing, I never kicked her off. Never really understood the hate for her.

I mean yes she's bland, they fucked up the mocap, Chobot phoned it in, and I hate the IGN pandering and wish I had Emily Wong instead.

But the character itself does nothing to draw my ire.

Bah, you should have sent him through the Vents. "That's practically a suicide mission. I volunteer". You have a death wish Jacob? Fine by me

However, this reminds me of another thing I haven't done; I've never had the crew escorted by anyone other than Mordin. Maybe I should let the crew be escorted by the psychotic biotic instead.

I usually have thane or legion escort the crew, I figured an infiltrator type would help the crew evade trouble, or kill said trouble without attracting too much attention.

I always used Thane because:

1. He can "adapt to any situation" supposedly. Not really true though since he'll die if given any other responsibility.

2. He's committed to saving lives at this point in his life. I figured he'd want to play the hero.

Ronald Taylor is Jacob's father. You meet his father if you do Jacob's loyalty mission in ME2

I consider her a lot better than old Hacksaw.

Dr. Michel is a fresh face, and she's reasonable eye candy. Plus, Hacksaw nets you some spare war assets, which would probably be pretty useful if you're RP'ing.
