Okay, this will probably help....

Retaking the Medusa:  Update

With (a bit less than) 15 minutes before the Medusa is uncontrollably captured in the gravity well of the gas giant, the teams need to seize either the bridge or the engine room.  Seizing both would be even better.  Despite the difficulty moving through the ship, there is enough 'game time' to do so.  Despite the difficulties moving back to the shuttle bay, in an emergency, at about the 10 minute mark, people could potentially make a run for it.  The Medusa is big but it isn't the size of aircraft carriers and, well, once you know where you are going, or are willing to do anything to get out, you can do it.

If people want to push the time, the charge on the spine can be set off, cutting the Medusa in half and extending it's deteriorating orbit for more time.  The soonder the charge is detonated, the more time saved, but of course at the crippling of the ship.

Basically it means the teams shouldn't waste time.  They can achieve their objectives if they move out.  But there is pressure.  There are other answers as well, such as focusing on only either the bridge or engineering room, but by focusing on one, there may be other costs.  Maybe like Iyana getting away (if she wants to) or a higher chance of losing the ship.

NOTE:  One of the very smart people in the group may notice that whoever set the deteriorating orbit, as VERA pointed out, set a 'less than optimal' trajectory.  As if that person wanted to leave just enough time for your characters to get to where they need to go if they don't screw around.  Just enough....

I liked it. Though there were some points. Essuls not in the engineering group, hes in the other one. Could proibably just change it to vayne and solve it. Another point is vaynes writing. A bit too eage and gun-hoey with the dialouge and such. Way I kinda try to write him is like a hard boiled cop, with a bit of pyromania thrown in. That's just for future reference though, no harm done.

Post was still fun to read, and I like the strange extra bit added in about indoctrination, though I'm not sure where it came from personally.

Probably take out the part about indoctrination. I don't think that has been covered in the RP at all yet and hasn't even been viewed by Naleena from what I remember.

Also, going to be putting up an action post. Will bring engineering through the second cargo hold and into the third. Messaging out what I have done thus far.

Well, I've read the wiki page, and there were quite a few characters that had it before ME2. It could've been something they've looked at, but I'm not sure.

 the volus merc.  Well done!

For the confusion earlier, sorry, I probably set a bad precident when I changed all the things around with the asari when they blew out the bottom of the train.  I like surprises, but I am not in the habit of screwing player characters over with writing.  So, when I need to clarify, tell me, or shoot me a PM.  Or if I see something, I'll try to add it in.

Ok, will edit Essul's part out. I knew they had split up, but thought Essul was with engineering. Ugh, my stupid bad.

No feelings are hurt regarding Vayne, will edit to tone down his lines. If it's the same to you, I want to keep his double-kill because that's awesome and kind of too late to change now. I get what you mean about him being more calm than how I wrote him. My initial reasoning was that he was going in that direction after what happened with the Krolli.

And, altogether, I was tired of struggling to write and just said, f*@k it, this happens, and this, and this, and this, and it will be glorious.

So I have no regrets just freaking writing like crazy. Kel, specifically, kind of asked for it. He was like "I sure wish some of you other writers would get in on some of this, wink wink, hint hint, wink" xD So I did. Because blood-thirsty motherfuckers like me can write violent deaths. That was a joke. I don't drink blood. ;)

Plus Avan has been creeping a bit too much and generally not doing anything. If he creeps too much, it'll blow his cover. Can't let Vayne do all the Krolli pet training.

"Roll over, play dead? You can't teach it tricks. You will die. Everyone in the company will die."

@shotgun- not sure if indoctrination has been discussed or revealed in the past. For some reason I assumed it was, and kind of head canoned what happened with Saren and the salarians was not kept quiet. Not sure, though.

The next pod the Engineering crew is going to travel through will be

the most

shocking

yet.

Also, I'm pretty sure we're on the fourth, aren't we? I'm pretty sure Irina just stomped whatever was in Pod 1, pod 2 had the Krollis, pod 3 had the Volus Vanguard. So this is actually the fourth one for Engineering, isn't it?

Up late typing.   Thanks for all the entries.  Of course, now everyone is on the brink of getting through the pods (I think you all have, right?) and are ready to head for the bridge and engineering, right at the cusp of a potential time challenge for me.  With jury duty tomorrow, and then a weekend that could make me not able to respond as well, this could be tough.  Or it could be no problem, wouldn't that be nice?

Basically, I have some direct stuff planned for the bridge, engineering, and of course Luscious and Iyana.  I'll sleep on it and see what I can figure out with you guys.  Really fecking good job with the posts.  I love em.

Can the team hear what jess does through the comms, or is this all private?

I can do Golt if you give me an outline for his duel with Vayne, should that happen during your off time.

I'd like to see if I can do it. Let me see how today goes and I'll give an update. The bridge and engine room aren't directly after the pods. There are crew areas presumably, and the one is up and one is down. I'll update as I can.

Okay I think we are mostly out of mercs. Please remember they are not idiot mooks and one shot wonder kills, though I get it....the retribution is on :)

There are probably like. 5-10 mutants still running around outside the highly defended areas

But..... Firestorms and shotguns are not one shot kills. Plus I had to throw an Arnold one liner in there. The mission would have been poor without one.

Okay, so while my weekends aren't as free as my weeks, after showing up for court today, things don't seem that bad.  It isn't done yet, however.  I have to show up on Tuesday again for more vetting.  Its for a Grand Jury, and when its said, the jurors picked will sit for 8 weeks :o

Anyway, so onward for now and I'll keep everyone updated.  Remember, no idiot Arnold Shwartzenagger villains going forward, no banditos, no Cobra soldiers.  Give your characters a challenge, please.  Now, having said that, this is going to get harder steadily from here on in as you hit the nasty parts of the ship.  With that in mind...

Retaking the Medusa:  Update

10 (or so) minutes and counting...

Both groups have made it through the cargo modules on the port and starboard sides.  Congrats!  You have entered the crew living quarters.  Defense here is sparse but you have to make your way through, and if there are any mutants that have not been killed or dedicated to the defense of the hard points (bridge and engineering) then they will be attacking guerilla style in here.  There are at most 5 left in this state, and they'll work singly,  probably, harassing and running.  And again, that's if there are any left.

Anyone who wants to make sure they are going to make it back to the Scythe safely, with all the nonsense going on, probably should safely start running now.  That is if a) nobody blows the ship in half which will actually give more time) and B) there are not extenuating circumstances like Eteon can teleport to increase her speed.  But roughly it is the point of no return.  Success is mandatory beyond this point to save the Medusa, though you know there are supposed to be escape pods.  Hopefully.  If they haven't been screwed with (actually they haven't...for the meta)

Communications:  This is black box, drama oriented, science fiction stuff going on.  But from here on in, anyone aboard the Medusa has their communicators jammed.  Presume that the tech used to jam is higher than anything available to your characters.  Its part of Iyana's strong suit, this kind of tech, and the source of the jammers is not accessible until the end of the events on the Medusa.  The communication blackout, by the way, ALSO affects your enemy, and anyone knowing about this high tech level of jamming would know it is indiscriminate.

There are some repercussions of this too, such as if you want to be heard, you probably have to have a helmet that either lets you or you have to take it off.  It doesn't mean you don't have sound protection (Naleena's got you some earplugs for that) nor does it mean you can't use something like a rebreather.  But when you communicate now, you have to talk, or send hand signals  to someone watching, or somthing like that.  No coms.

Mkay, more lator.  Again, I'd like to say nice work.

Oh, yeah, because it makes sense, people should use the flashbangs.  The mercs, from this point on, have the same sort of vision gear and audio protection you guys do.  The mutants, maybe, maybe not.  Some don't care though, and some use, well, other means of detection.

Engineering should be big, by the way.  It's a large freighter with multiple engines and it is really an old ship.  I mean, there aren't pistons per se (Right RedBelle?  Hmmm) but theres more nooks and crannies than a Thomas' English muffin.

Bridge is through a bunch of stuff.  As one may imagine, the bridge and engineering must be protected at all costs in the event of boarding.  So they have defenses as good as it gets on a ship.  Probably there will have to be some creative bypassing.  Nothing is going to get you directly to the bridge or engineering without it being covered with guns.  Sort of like an onboard siege.  The bad guys don't want to vent you into space.  You good guys probably won't want to either, on account of wrecking the ship, slowing things down, not saving the doctor/taking and torturing prisoners/etc.  Throw them out the air lock later when you capture them, you know?

When we get down to it, the bad guys have some heavy weapons too, like flame throwers, anti-personel mines, high explosive rockets meant to kill people and not substantially damage the hull.  Anyway, go ahead again and be creative.  There are about 5 mercs and 5 mutants down in engineering and the same number up on and around the bridge.

I'll introduce Golt, Iyana and Luscious at the appropriate times.

I'm going to be gone for the evening (probably) and won't have much of a chance to post. If Eteon needs to do something, feel free to make her do it.

Hey, Kel, if they flashbanged us, we'd notice, too. We'd experience momentary blindness. Our hearing? Not so much. Just saying how I've been treating them. Basically toss the damned things in and look away.

There's another issue with using grenades in Engineering. How big is it? Incendiaries burn at 5000 F and explode to about a 17 m radius with white phosphorus, OR use something like Thermate which will burn a hole in the floor at about 4000 F. In either case, WE cannot look in the direction of the grenade because it is too bright. Frag grenades have a kill radius of 5 meters, and a wounding radius of 15 m. Concussion grenades would be most effective in this situation with a smaller 2-4 m kill radius and less likelihood of damaging the equipment we need to use.

So the idea of letting loose with everything we have including incendiaries is a bit ridiculous. Flashbangs work. Concussion grenades work. Yes they're old tech, but unless you want to burn engineering to the ground and destroy the Medusa in the process, I suggest we use them.

"Engine team.... I'm sorry, but the engine room will need nonlethal ordnance. There's a lot of exposed equipment in there. Biotics would be useful. But a stray round into the wrong part and things could get really bad for us".

Lol let's go in guns-a-blazin' anyways.
