I know that we have two ships now, and there are two crews, and I'm glad to see a page for the Medusa. I will put one up for the Janiri. When we took back the Medusa I'd envisioned the two ships working side by side like Galactica and Pegasus. Thoughts, Redbelle? What do you see for the role of the Medusa?

The Medusa is a swiss army knife masquerading as a standard hauler. It's made to haul tonnage and lacks the same maneuverability and grace of the Jeniri. It's straight line speed is a match so it can keep pace but it's strength is in it's shielded weaponry. It can pretend to be helpless and then open up with devastating firepower. As such The Jeniri fit's an escourt role since it's better able to move while the Medusa is a destroyer that has to position for firing passes in order to use it's best arsenal.
The Medusa also has a wide range of anti long range ordnance since it can't move as well to avoid fire. As such it is a good escort ship in that it can shoot down incoming long range projectiles.
In modern warfare terms think of the Jeniri as a fighter jet and the Medusa as a naval battle cruiser. The fighter has to react in real time. The Medusa has to set up it's firing passes. But to hit the Medusa you have to commit to getting in range of it's arsenal which is formidable.
The other strength of the Medusa is it's crew has pulled people with engineering and science backgrounds. These are people who often have to repair systems with what's to hand rather than pulling out a component and slotting in a new one. While not specialists their problem solving ability means they often think around problems to tackle it from different angles rather than plowing straight through.
So, pluses bulk hauler, heavy ordnance, room to expand as mission demands, experienced crew, stronger hull than now standard vessels, non standard but highly effective ships systems.
Minuses, non military, high maintenance, less maneuverable, no network = longer response times which requires planning before each engagement.

@Redbelle - there's a time differential between the two ships at the moment. Naleena is sending the Medusa a message, but the Medusa won't receive it for a week. The message is "We had to go to the Citadel. Meet us there. Use Spectre clearance code (make up something - it's one of Naleena's authorizations, you'll be given permission to dock and won't be hassled, and you'll be allowed to leave).
The Janiri team will have shore leave, and that should give you time to get things caught up. My team needs a break and time to heal after that last encounter anyway. Plus they need to spend Aria's coin. She didn't say where they had to spend it.

Okay, due to running out of time yesterday, I went back and edited the description of Babe. The point is the same but there's a bit more detail (and it probably doesn't need to be emphasized any more...
)
Um, I'm going to see what I'll write next here. Basically waiting on some stuff to happen anyway, as mentioned.

Wonder what Frank will spend all that dough on?
Probably give it to charity, or something righteous.

There are some wot's (Wall of text) incoming from me to finish the most relevant parts of Arian's background story. It will take place in a bar that is not too far from the Afterlife (description will follow in the next post tomorrow). Why am I telling you this? If certain characters need something to do or just want to spend some time anywhere else than on the Janiri before the ship leaves Omega they can somehow end up at the bar.
I'm not saying that I absolutely need someone to send their character down there, it's just an offer because it feels weird to post so many text without any interaction with other characters because for this I could just write a story on my own. But I won't be mortally offended if noone wants to do it ^^ As I said, it's just an option.
Btw, I hope there aren't too many mistakes and it's readable. It's really late here and I don't have time now to check for the usual grammar and translation mistakes ![]()

If you want to talk about how to bring your character in let me know. Otherwise characters have come aboard by being fresh out the academy recruits who were working a forward negotiating team command centre during a hostage crisis. And a group of dockworker engineers who Jess shanghaied out of the dock under the pretext she was shaking down the ship

So Is the Medusa apart of the Systems Alliance? Or just a Cargo Ship?

The Medusa is a "pirate ship" but the good kind operating under the auspices of Spectre Naleena. Her Captain, Jess Stone is part of the Kings and Queens, a pirate guild operating in the Terminus and elsewhere.
This group is not a bunch of goodie two shoes. The Spectre isn't either.

The Medusa is a pre First Contact war human built cargo ship intended for bulk cargo. It flies under the flag of the Kings and Queens, (K&Q) trading company that grew up around the time of the first contact war.
The ship itself was later retrofitted with Mass Effect technology to allow it to perform in a manner similar to modern ships. However, because it was built along pre mass effect engineering guidelines it's sturdier and more solid than anything currently produced. Barring warships.
During the FCW the ship was leased to the Alliance and served as a border cutter to free up other military Alliance ships to fight in the skirmishes. The Medusa never saw combat with the Turians but instead handled the lower end, pirates, raiders, ships in distress duties that normal border patrol ships would handle.
The K&Q have an understanding with the Alliance council that has been vigorously pursued with the Citadel council in that if the Alliance needs them, the ships of the K&Q are permitted to be armed to serve to free up more alliance ships from their duties in times of conflict. The fact that the Medusa is already so armed is a loophole exploited in that she is ready to assume said duty if needed in a don't ask, don't tell understanding.

The Medusa will soon be summoned and en route... though given the helm and navigation challenges we may be delayed.

Would the Medusa require Alliance Resources or the like?
#3393
Posté 20 février 2015 - 11:23
The Medusa could operate as a platform for others.... But it's always been the Captains philosophy to make do with with what's at hand.
That philosophy however is one better suited to peace time where they simply trade and swap blows with competitor pirates who have grudges against the ship and crew. The crew are essentially folk who can rig the ship to run with spit and twine and the highly capacitive hot plate from the coffee machine.
Getting more resources would be good, but the Captain would stop anything that affects the way she runs the ship.
Basically, the Medusa is an older style ship that requires older technical expertise and has trouble running modern day tech unless someone comes up with a work around to marry the two systems in a way that allows both to remain functional.

Redbelle explained a combat situation to me once. A cyberwarfare suite aboard a modern vessel could lock out a networked system on a ship like the Medusa with a virus whereas it would have serious problems doing so in the Medusa's current configuration.
The Janiri has a way of blocking an attack like that because it has an illegal unshackled AI. VERA can rewrite her code as necessary.

So following on from the Characters thread, bringing in Yori Kamiyama onto the Medusa..... So, to give some background on what happened before the comet chase, Jess had the Medusa's comm transmitter fry the orbital dock's transmitter.... (Total accident. Training new crew and he flipped the wrong switch..... switches.... And point blank fired a high energy transmission at their array which had the unfortunate effect of silencing the dock and prevented them from ordering the Medusa back to dock.... with all their dock workers still fixing up the ship).
It might stand to reason that Yori be assigned to the ship as part of an inspection team to keep an eye on the Captain and ship. So that if more 'accident's' happen they have an eye witness to what happened?
Alternatively maybe she'd accrued enough shore leave + medical leave to take an extended break and the Medusa's next port of call happens to be the Citadel.
Btw, I'm bringing my London character into Spectres. Not Jerry-Ann. The Quarian who makes Geth Prosthetics. Because clearly we have some folks who could use the help.... I'm thinking Frank with a Quarian finger and two bolt antenna's on his neck linked to his brain that allows him to use his new appendage at the speed of thought..... Need to cut a piece of metal? "Go Go Franken-Laser"!
In the dark? "Go Go Franken-Torch"!
Being pursued? "Go Go Franken-marbles"?

That could be considered, But as a inspection team I dont think she would have that much Leway Aside being a Helsman she can also be the Ships Quartermaster Similar to Cortez.

That works. Jess is taking on a lot of duties they haven't got people assigned to. Quartermaster is one of them.
Please! For the love of everything divine! Stop Sherie's one woman effort to turn the ship into an English tea room! Don't her order any of the following!

Hmmm.... Could we have a grumbling commando with a sniper rifle arrive for temporary reassignment to the Janiri to take Mira's place... you know you remember Specialist Ereba Danri

She would be under Jenus' command.
I think this would make more sense than the other potentially explosive volunteer situations that could occur since commandos work in pairs.
