I remember Momma. And I have a plot mapped out for VERA. Let me explain something I just explained to Kel via PM. I'm not Mac Walters. I have a totally different view about the synthetics-organics thing he was doing.
EDI: I agree with Kel that she was a total Mary Sue, but we overlooked it because.... Reapers. Mac's entire thing was about EDI's weakness being "I am not alive." EDI never experiences any problem when her platform is hit. Nor did Dr. Core notice anything when that shuttle crashed and her skin burned off. Also EDI felt nothing when the Normandy got damaged during the fight against the Collector ship, even though her sensors would have picked up problems. So EDI was not alive. EDI had self-awareness and had experienced growth, but was not alive, even at the end of ME3. The Normandy was a super ship with a super almost alive AI. There was never any reason to fear EDI.
* We downloaded that Archive on Eingana and who knows what was in it. We don't know. All we do know is this....
VERA is not EDI. With VERA we crossed the line. Being alive is her kryptonite. The second she had real emotional response she became alive. At this point she also becomes a bit scary. We can't simply take her for granted anymore. She'll want to be treated with respect. I would think an injury to the platform, the synthetic would feel the equivalent of pain. If the platform were destroyed it would be like losing a point of awareness.
* acting hurt with Molly
* chastising Naleena for casually suggesting the enemy dare attack
VERA could go through a "I didn't ask for this" period regarding her feelings and being alive. What if after her experience on the ground she decides she did not like it? She's not a simple machine anymore. What if she will only fight if attacked? It's not like we have Reapers flying through the galaxy destroying everything at the moment.
So with VERA and the Janiri, I'm thinking more of a synthetic version of Moira from Farscape. Except whereas Moira was totally emotion based, VERA will be far more balanced due to her nature, yet there will be issues.
