That's no problem, Julia, I'm busy with a few things right now. I mean, it's not like I couldn't have done this last week but I thought it wouldn't hurt to relax for a few days before I take on the work. Well, now I'm in a hurry to finish it in time. It's always the same with tasks like these, you think Let's do it tomorrow until you realize that tomorrow is the day you have to submit it

Yay!  Well it does help knowing I'm not alone.  Though I have to admit I pretty much don't wish misery on you.

Sucks to be you guys. I drank a whole bottle of Old Crow last night, and didn't even wake up with a hangover. Fuckin' right!

"Oh my god. Babe, wake up! it's one o clock!"

"Wha..."

*looks at clock*

Okay, so the fact that I overslept a whole four hours mighta had something to do with it...

Yeah, I got some postin's in the works kinda sorta.  Diggin' my first love out of storage tonight for the first time in almost four years, so it might be awhile until I get around to posting tonight.

Also, I hear this is one of the most splattery motorcycle events of all time. I need to go to this.

So...we can imagine jet bikes however we like.  A racing cycle like above, two seater for doubles, enclosed and with an eezo powered jet on the back is fine.  What is incredible is the distinct lack of fictional art for what I would think would be such a common sci-fi idea.  I struggled to find something specific to match what I had in mind, but in my head, they look something like starting with this image:

the_strata_by_justinoaksford.jpg

With eezo jets instead of wheels or exhaust, two seats, and enclosed and, uh, the engine in the back.  Hah.  Put all that in the image.  I think you can come up with what I was thinking mentally though.  Suppose we'll just have to rely on the imagery of our fiction.  There will be a moment of getting into it technically too, when you meet the racers.  Because hell yes that is happening.

Also,

"Sup?"

Also also:

Spoiler

I'll weasel in some writing here in a little bit. My car-boner has finally began to subside after realizing how much money that I'm about to throw at it.

Someone took a firebird around here, tooled it up and is trying to sell it.  For all of $7000.

So I hope you love it, because there doesn't seem to be much money in them.

Back to jet bikes.  Yeah.  Um.  So let's imagine that fringe group that likes to race motorcycles.  Then let's imagine they had technology and didn't care if they lived 800 years as opposed to only 80.

I'm surprised they don't race them without canopies in space :)

Aw, it's just fun!

Mass Effect fields cover all the physics problems. Don't mess with the phlebotinum. This all works, just like the flying cars, and artificial gravity. Mass Effect fields. The solution to everything.

^Why do I feel like I've been there before?^

I'll try and post something here in a bit, probably just gonna poof Frank and Iole somewhere. Not sure where yet. Feel free to handle the poofin' if you want to, Kel. I'm a little busy preparing for this Halloween 'party', as well as tinkering with the colossal piece of sh*t that has moved into my garage.

I went from "Maybe it's the carburetor?" to "F***." reeeaaaaal quick.

Johnny. Sh*t, I forgot about Johnny. I should probably do something with him, too...

That track is pretty close as I imagine it, though I kind of imagine some mmmm 3d stuff, and some death defying runs though terrain....:o

Can you say DAY-TON-A? Sure, I knew you could. It's the infield circuit but without the "Bus Stop" because I wanted the long straight for you know... speed. This is grand prix style bike racing like they do there and at Laguna Seca, Spa Francochamps, Catayluna (Spain)

Irina's piece.... I should call it "Septerax's Revenge." She had something on her bucket list. She thought she'd have some fun and enter a time trial. This was going to be a joy ride. Next thing she knew, the Turians got involved and it's a full blown production with Marcus Cascian, former Turian Jet Bike champion at the helm of the pit crew and his daughter Alisa as chief mechanic. Septerax called her dad. Marcus is about 55.

The main event is 200 miles, 57 laps.

I haven't been to Daytona for about... oh, seventeen years, or so. Still, I remember it well. I brought a disgusting hotdog lunchable with me and it was awesome. That was back when I cared about Nascar. I mean like really really cared about it.

So!  So...as cool as a modern racing track is, one has to take into account that a) this is for jet bikes and b ) this thing was made by asari who had nothing better to do for 800-100 years of lifespan.  That means, I would imagine this course being possibly a little more complex, though what is up is probably fine for a 'time trials' lap.  But the complexity I think should include:

1) Full verticles and dives.

2)  A nice straghtaway along the ocean, along with insane, close to the surface maneuvers

3)  Some absolutely bonkers tunnel run through a mountain at speeds where failure equals disintegrate.

4)  At least two crowd pleaser pass areas, one likely above their heads (with appropriate netting and shield protection).  This is where naked eye views of the race are going to be with the start and finish.

Cknarf, having actual spent time on raceways, plus our own ability to wiki, should make this most similar to an F1 race, along with all the elitism.  I have an idea for the rundown on the bikes, but am saving that for when you meet one of the racers.  Everything that goes along with the event will, for example, a chance to view the  crew areas point blank range (for money , and if you act up there you WILL be thrown out for good, not that anyone would do that...Frank...) and on and on.  Cknarf, you could post up what you sent me about stuff, but basically the important point about this jet biker race is, like F1, money is zero object.  This is the top of the line, where simple technology is the only limiting factor.  These asari have been piloting these things for decades and the racers have almost a sixth sense about these things.  At least that's how I imagine it.

Now this track is sci-fi in itself. Let's make it out of hard light so you can see through it. There will be infield seating,

1) The race starts between Turn 8 and the Finish Line - a rolling start.

2) Between Turns 3 & 4 we put a climbing corkscrew in there right in front of the stands

3) Right at Turn 4 the track dives into the almost vertically banked turn 5;

4) Then twists and climbs the other way into another banked turn 6,

5) Then it dives again out of the technical part of the track into turn 7 for the speed run.

6) The speed run ends at the finish line where riders enter the technical part of the course.

Oh, the net.... Mass Effect Fields.... ;)

Let's put a club nearby, too, and call the club "Pole Position." Here's where you'll run into a different type of Asari. The kind we haven't seen before: the mechanics and blue collar Asari who work at the track and go there to have some drinks and watch the pole dancers.

And yeah, Irina will be out of her league. Totally out of her league. But she's a good rider because she's one ours, and she'll qualify, thanks to some expert work by Marcus' crew and Alisa Cascian. The Starstreamer is a good bike. She spent a fortune on it. The upkeep was killing her. That bike will be able to run and she'll get a great time in the time trials, but the question is how will she do in traffic?

And OT - it's not even dinner time and the trick or treating has started. It goes non-stop for the next four hours. It wouldn't be bad if it was the neighborhood kids, but they come in from all over by the van load. Drive and drop. When I moved here we had about 10. Three years ago we had 250 and I ran out of candy before 8 pm. I opted out the past two years. I was going to go to a movie, but there is nothing but crap in the theaters. Seeing as I have to be quiet, I'll write.

"What the void are you doing!?"

"Everything my author wasn't able to get away with IRL"

*zoom*

*explosion*

I'd copy and paste the big rundown, but I am far too lazy. Hell, I think you got it down mostly, Kel. Elitism and ****. Let's just say you're probably not going to see a whole lotta workboots and denim at this event, if you know what I mean.(suppose I should get my characters some proper duds) The machines themselves are the most technologically advanced of their kind. You can't just go to a dealer and buy one of these bikes, let alone the prototype technology that's packed into 'em.

Back in the 60s, even normal guys, like 'ol Chuck here, with a relatively small amount of dough and some technical knowledge could build a racecar, and qualify for the Indy 500, of all things.  Unfortunately, those days are long gone. Now that the cars alone are damn near half a million dollars. And that's just Indy Cars. Formula 1 cars cost millions. That's not even counting R&D and other operating costs...

I'm imagining these bikes being worth some F1 money, and then some. Like, the asari mastered space travel so long ago, they started dumping all of that space exploration funding into flying crotch rockets and sh*t has gotten completely out of hand.

I think light coukd be used as an indicator of the course but I'm not sure hard light would be a good idea as a jet bike might want to just fly off into the air if possible. Maybe hard light could protect the crowd in certain areas (though Narf already put into the story that a good old fashioned net was 'still' the best protection. Anything is up for grabs I like that you've plotted the track.

My suspicion seemed to be confirmed by Narf that many of the F1 crowd are upper crusts with model girlfriends, though apparently your grease monkeys, less apparent than at NASCAR, are still in attendance. I'd imagine this crowd like that. Not so much Budweiser semis and more like French or Italian F1 crowds. But story first; if you need a trashy hillbilly, put em in.

Oh and we still need a vertical tunnel run through s mountain because ta so stupid it has to be done  if say the straightaway is over s good part of ocean. This might look more like a video game minus gems and giant flashing arrows :)
