What do you guys think of proboards?

That's what the Off-Topic refugees use, seems to work fine.

But can we have excessive violence and text-based pornography?

Hyped.

And holly balls, that's some tedious work.  About to post page 22 and see what happens.

It really sucks. Proboards though, from what I can see, is free. Not only that, I've been with a few proboards groups. Just keep it to a 50 shades of grey level of quality and you'll be fine. At least, that's my impression from the GOT threads I run in.

As a mod, I would vow to use none of my admin powers to censor.

If there are any hyperlinks, as in those texts that link to youtube or other sutff like "previously on CS" with links to the old posts, it seems to **** up the posts.

You know, if you guys are cool with it. I can just put in a link to the old forums, and we can just pick up where we left off. This copy pastingg thing is getting on my nerves.

If you don't mind leaving the archive bit open, though, that would be cool.  I'll still add do it on occasion, now that I know there can be like, zero links.

I'm cool either way, guys.

I honestly have to say that I wouldn't know any good alternatives, I also never heard of proboards before. Going to check it out when I have more time.

I don't know how you guys see it but should we try to maybe make it so new people might get interested in joining up as well? Personally, I feel like it would be cool if new writers could bring some cool new ideas to the story (well, a good portion just posts once or twice and then disappears forever, so there's that) but...I don't know. What do you think?

Click the off-topic shitposting link in my sig for an example of proboards.  I actually kinda dig it. Actually informs you of new posts without having to subscribe to an inbox-raping email alert.

As for new participants, I feel like our story isn't very welcoming sometimes. Hard to explain. Not to mention how long it can take to work people in.

Okay, how about we do the assus pullus method of bringing new characters into the story? i.e. if we're on a mission and you know how long our missions can take we just say that the new character is already with us. We picked them up at the last stop. Inclusion by retcon. It's messy, but it will keep prospective writers from dropping out before we get to them.

We could use some new blood.

As far as location, I don't care as long as the forum works and someone from this story has moderation control over it. i.e. if we get an an a-h you can boot them from our corner.

Fanfiction.net is good for new members to join. You'd be surprised how many will just stumble in and join because of activity.

Proboards is much more lax and customizeable with content restrictions but it's hard to get new people to post.

comes down to if we can live with ff

So let's have a reality check here.

I think our RP fits somewhere between the FanFiction guidelines of Fiction T and Fiction M inclusive. It certainly isn't Fiction MA - detailed descriptions of "adult content" which is not allowed on the site. We don't swear that much, and the violence and sex scenes haven't been exactly what I would call graphic. Most of our stuff is pretty mild. It don't think we'll have any problems over there if we continue as we have.

I'll be honest here. The biggest issue is that we lost a major contributor recently - Redbelle. Losing Redbelle has one plot line at a standstill and it requires essentially writing out or putting in infinite limbo a set of characters (the Kings & Queens, Tarballs, and Jess Stone and Amy Babylon). Kel has a major character in the middle of a conversation with Tarballs at the moment IIRC. This is a problem and not a small one especially given the fact that we're about to do one of his plot lines.

It would not hurt to see if we could find someone to fill that void. Of course, they won't take over the characters. They could, and in writing video games and movie scripts this sort of thing has happened, but that's going to be up to us and we'll need a consensus for that because these are what we would call essential characters. It would require a major commitment from that writer.

It also sounds like FanFiction.net would provide the best opportunity for getting new writers - more characters, etc so that the story isn't totally driven by us. I think new blood might be just what we need.

I would rather sacrifice a little customization and some content restrictions for the ease in getting new people to join.

The question is, do we have a consensus?

if your looking for new blood i could hop in. I just need to now what are my content restrictions like what game, movies, ect. i can grab from. (note there are some thing i canonize like the Janiri's ship pic is from Babylon 5(which is a great show mind you its a bit old) Other ways ill look to see where i can hop in if you allow it. im read the story right now and so far I'm on page 198 post #4932.

Again, go ahead and do whatever you all would like.  My opinion is simply what it is and this story isn't mine alone to lord over.

I get the feeling you could use a hug, Kel. You're lucky I can't do that over the internet, because you'd be getting one whether you liked it or not.

And while poofing characters isn't my favorite way to go about things, I think it would be worth considering. Small price to pay if it gets us another regular.

Ideally, we'd be able to stay here, and continue our preservation efforts over on FF. Lol. That's how much I hate the way that site is set up. Still, I could live with it, simply because we'd be more likely to get new folks.

I'll move if that's what it takes to keep going. I won't like it, but I think I'll manage.

Click for inspiration.

Okay then. Jen, go ahead and set up a thread: Chasing Spectres Story: Part II

I have the place bookmarked in my browser.

Having that major part of the story go poof after so long is a

We'll continue to archive the materials in the Archive Thread. And let's get the story going.

This said, I'd like to refer you guys to an author whom I follow: KM Weiland. She's a great resource and helps aspiring writers a lot.

Here's one resource I found excellent: http://www.helpingwr...es/free-e-book/

This book is about crafting characters. And it's free. Download to your mobile device AND your PC. How well do you know your character? While you might not want to go through all the detail for a RP, it's worth a read.

I am moving my characters over. Just copy into Notepad and paste. Notepad will remove outside links.

For example: Aria's Afterlife: Behind Enemy Lines formats beautifully.

I wish there were enough emojis to explain my visceral reaction to seeing that name.

Too bad to hear that you guys have to move, but if you guys are going to wind up with more people passing through on FF.net then all the power to you.

With no news from BW on ME:Andromeda except for writers leaving - yes the game is a year away and people found out that Canada is cold in the winter - and no support for all browsers, and strange support for Microsoft Word, something had to be done.
