Also there's another matter of weaponry.

Old style weaponry would still be quite functional in the MEU, and quite available. Probably a lot cheaper than the high tech weapons, and mostly used by the general public since law enforcement doesn't want people packing weapons that shoot through schools. Also they were used as recently as the First Contact War. This is according to The Citadel DLC. Turian: "You expect to win a war with this?" Marine: "A bullet is a bullet."

As I mentioned to Kel via PM, it all boils down to basic p=mv. A one ounce shotgun slug does this: .028 kg * 1.6(343 m/sec) = 15.36 kg-m of momentum. This means that Tardek's face looks like a smashed pie regardless of shields. They could have even been hardened. It would have made no difference, especially at the range fired. Her shots penetrated.

MEU weapons use shaved metal blocks. A generous amount equivalent of a .22 cal slug weighing 1.9 g accelerated to mach 10 would give this: .0019 * 10(343) = 6.52 kg-m. Also firing a slug at mach 10 indoors or even outdoors requires the use of a helmet with hearing protection. Suppression kills the range and effectiveness of these weapons since they kill velocity in addition to muzzle flash, making old style weapons the choice of assassins due to the mass of the projectile.

The only advantage is that you're not supposed to run out of ammunition in theory, but you have an overheating problem with the MEU weapons. Hence, thermal clips in ME2 and ME3.

I rest my case.

Well, this debate still went back and forth.  But really, I will not go on only because Julia gets to have it her way when she writes as far as I'm concerned, I'll have it my way when I write, etc. and of course, if there's some discrepancy, we can always hash it out in the name of the story, which is what matters.

Science fiction inconsistencies?  Isn't that par for the course?  *cough* Star Trek *cough*

Vayne's Shotgun Pistol is missing from the index. :P

I really aught to think of a name for it. Any suggestions?

Well, if you're going to get a vehicle on Calvin, say what you want!

Mind you, if it isn't a mecha steed, chances are that its used.  It'll work but you know, no top of the line stuff...

I would find it so funny if vayne has a mecha-steed, and we get to see him be scared/grossed out by it some more. XD

Then he'll start to like it, and name his applejack.

I left the rest sort of not defined so you may describe them as you see fit!

Basically just wanted to make a black one for one of Julia's characters.  Maybe they'll fight over it :)

One taller one because, well, seven feet is tall for a human!

And well, one of course, special just for Vayne....

But feel free to make yours as special as you want.  Calvin Brisbane's here to please!

P.S. if you want to have me go make it special myself, just let me know...

Naleena rides the black one. Dahlia rides the chestnut. Irina rides the white one. Too bad these aren't real horses. Of course then Vayne would need a Kakliosaur.

By the way, sadly, Eli Wallach died today (Tuco from the good the bad and the ugly).  He was 98.

Anyway, I took RedBelle's mecha steed idea and went with it.  There is an idea I have for Jess' now, because I have too much time to think about it, but again, defer to your individual author designs.  On Vayne's what it is, is that i just couldn't hold myself back...

As much fun as it would be to make my own..... It'll be more fun to see what someone else comes up with knowing what they know about my character.

......Does the saddle vibrate? ;p

Note about Duellos: I'm thinking the air is about as thin as 7000 ft. Seriously don't go thinner than that. It will get cold. Very cold. All I have to do is look out my window at a 14,000 ft. high mountain. The snow line is 9000 ft in July. At 7000 ft, one should wear an O2 monitor when working. 91% is the magic number. Below 91% is where one needs supplemental oxygen. So if one is in normal conditions like walking outside or sitting outside there isn't any problem even up to 9000 ft. But strenuous activity like combat or mining will require a breathing mask otherwise one can get disoriented and one can become prone to making mistakes. This is how we lose hikers on the mountain. They get up to 10,000 ft and they get disoriented. Some older hikers get up to 7000 ft and have a problem, while marathon runners can go up to 12,000 ft without issue.

Days will be warm and dry. Nights will be cold. We should pack coats.

I think that's fine, though again, unless it would be 'Level 1 Hazard' stuff, an environmental suit should be fine, no?

Not that Morgan's combat armor looks nearly as cool as a coat.  Because no hell no it doesn't!

And if you aren't wearing armor, say you are wearing leather, or *ahem* a sheer green suit, or a sheer white suit....there's going to be some coldness seeping into those....

Bonding moment for Jess and Anika with the local redhead?

Mecha-Steed

stock-photo-3417896-chrome-robot-horse.j

Duellos is a frontier mining world with a noteable affinity for a rough and tumble flair to accompany the function of the devices they use.  That affinity extends to the use of mecha-steeds, which goes beyond the generaly vanity ownership of such mechs on most worlds.  Surely, aircars, jetbikes and wheeled utility vehicles can serve the same or better role overall than a mecha-steed, but most people on Duellos will swear that 'they just aren't the same.'

And frankly, it's hard to argue with them.  Especially since they might be ready to pull a chemical round weapon on you and challenge you to a duel over it.

Basic controls make operation available to even unskilled riders.  Most mecha-steeds feature settings for rough terrain, sports speed, micro-thrusters for temporary boosts and a small element zero core, barrier shields for weather and some for combat, laser detection arrays which warned of incoming objects, ground penetrating radar to warn the rider of subsurface anomalies, and an interactive VI to keep it all running.  Mecha-steeds may often have other features built into them as well, their functions often varying from user to user.
