I've been browsing through the Chasing Spectres RP thread, and I have to say, I'm impressed.

I've never tried role play before, but I am very interested.  I'm thinking of a character now, but I really don't know how to introduce someone this far into it, or if that would even be appropriate, since I'm a total RP noob.  I don't want to just jump in and ruin the flow, if that makes sense.

Thanks for the kind comment!  Here's what I would tell you about Chasing Spectres:

First, it isn't something to worry about being new at.  If you'd like to jump in, it matters more that you post regularly, even if not necessarily frequently.  We need more people with characters, and though we always make amends, it hurts most when someone drops, especially without warning.  I think everyone currently writing would work to accommodate you.

Second, it helps to be self-sufficient, especially as you start.  If you have an idea for your own tale, and can write it, you won't have to be dependent on others responding.  Eventually, of course, all tales will interact, and we resolve that in the discussion thread, through PMs, or just by writing around each other in a way that makes sense.

Third, check out all the guidelines here:  http://forum.bioware...-ooc-the-rules/  If there's more than that, someone will bring it up.

The lead on Chasing Spectres is temporarily not posting.  He was supposed to be back, but probably has had more to deal with than he expected.  So now it is the group of us who are still writing...RedBelle, Shotgun Julia, Jensaarai and myself.  Go ahead and make a character in this thread:  http://forum.bioware...130-characters/ and we'll figure out a way to get you in.  It won't be hard at all!

And our summer heat wave hit. It's an oven out here. My air condition died. It's 10 PM and about 80 F up here in my office. It's going to be like this for about the next three weeks on and off. I'll be writing when I can. Basically I'm going to be spending as little time as possible in this stagnant air as the oven goes into bake mode around 87 degrees indoors. Get it fixed you say. Well everyone else's AC died too. I'm on the waiting list. So possibly I'll be posting something in the morning, and maybe one at night. Maybe. Just don't expect a running conversation.

@ Kel: feel free to ghost Dahlia.

@ RB & Kel: feel free to ghost Naleena

@ Jensaarai: feel free to ghost Irina if you need to for conversation.

I'm too f-ing hot. I'm not posting anything tonight.

Kay, everybody, Cknarf created a character to enter Chasing Spectres in the character section.  He's on Duellos so maybe we can work out finding him.  Ideas?

Guy's Samacen's overstaying his welcome so I've moved him on. The group pretty much caught his attention when they started trying to catch his attention. He's a busy man and has better things to do than talk to people who aren't there to buy what they sell.

I've moved us to a hanger workshop while Jess has seized control of their out of town comm's and diverted it all to the Audron for Aelias to field. She's probaly got voice disguse software to hide her Turian Burr. Otherwise a certain crazy Asari can step in.

As for the runner.... the runner's not been sent yet since the satalite came back online. But if they do send one..... Eteon's going to interecept.

We're okay for now.

Okay, I made a recommendation for Dahlia.  She can absolutely do something useful.

@Cknarf:  I think you can see that this compound for the Drowned Aspire is not just a cult, but a cult that leads to trouble.  Based on your character, there are a lot of reasons you could be around.  You have technical skills.  Even though it is a cult compound, they still need help from the outside.  You could be there to fix something, or to trade, and very much like the rest of us, the compound would prefer you not leave.

And by prefer, I think your character would know they don't mean to let you leave.

So, that might be a good way for you to sidle up to the other group (that's us) of people who look like they need to bust out of town.  Maybe you can approach us.  Or a more troubling situation could be that your character was captured and is either awaiting release or has already broken out without guards noticing, but still trapped in town.

What do you think?

Evening here, but looking forward to the next entry of Vayne, krogan legend.

Paraphrased from Shotgun Julia PM:  I thought I'd mention some things to be on the safe side, so nobody thought I was taking too many liberties with someone else's characters and background.  What happens is when I create important NPCs,  I blank out things such as on Iyana or Xhuan not to make excuses for them being tough later, or being more powerful to other characters, but as good reasons for them to be found out about.  If something isn't known, maybe a writer wants to have their character find out about it, and then of course, that can lead to interesting stuff.

Whenever I put something in that isn't revealed but totally hinted at with something like 'Access Denied' it is a fun way to advertise that I've already thought about something for the character when it was designed, and that thing is meant to make for a really great story or combat or whatever.  In Xhuan's case, it is a little different because Iyana is not meant to be found out about.  Xhuan can be found out about if someone has the right channels.

The chance of Xhuan investigating characters is near zilch.  The chance that Iyana is going to try to investigate characters is high, however, I presume that certain characters are already plot proof about having certain things we as writers know about.  I mean, there is no way, for example, that Iyana would ever know about Naleena's powers except through experiencing them.

What happened with the Medusa, as you probably know now, is something I'm creating with my background and doing my best to run by RedBelle without giving away what is intended. I suggested we tie our character backgrounds to each other, and RB (who is a premier collaborator) talked about the ship and that is how that whole thing went down.  I would never spring on another writer that NPC X (even Iyana) would know about something that you as an author have established wouldn't be found out about.  Or do something to a character the author didn't approve of.

So there you have it.  Tied in plots of bad stuff happening is something I will run across someone, as my own personal rule.  So nobody thinks I'm going to start messing around with character backgrounds or holding back information to mess with players.

Onward.  Cknarf?  How to get in? etc.

Folks, in case anyone's waiting to do stuff relating to the reasons we created to be here. There is no starting gun..... or if there is, it's already been fired.

The character's are masquerading as Thresher Hunter's and Thresher....pest control? That's the cover to push as we move around. The guards are watching so it's a case of getting away with it while under the eye. Break their line of vision to do something and they'll search. If they can't find they'll alert the rest of the guards. Stay hidden for to long and they'll escalate the alert. Also these guys stay in contact with their security office.

Sooooooo.

If folks want to do something realllly sneaky bad, you'll need to find a way to trick the guards, the security systems and or the protocols. Maybe capture a guards voice giving the all clear over his radio and sending that back over the radio to the office?

It will take some creative thinking to get through this..... and alot of guts to pull off some of the more ballsy moves. But we've all seen mission impossible right? Spy movies in general? We're not here to make friends we're here to do a job and run away if things go south.

I'm looking forward to what people do with their character's snce we have infiltration, kidnapping? And item location as quest's in this zone.

Having to stay in character (Morgan is better at other things than technical stuff like capturing voices and spitting out holograms of himself etc.) he'll do his best.

Edit:  caught on a call and will post in an hour.

I have a few brief paragraphs on Franks departure from Ontarom, I'd like to begin with those. So far, he's just arrived in the Erabus system, en route to Duellos.

He's arriving via personal shuttle (which also serves as his home), from a larger craft.  Maybe he gets lured to the Drowned Aspire compound, with a promise of work, and his shuttle is sabotaged, stranding him there.  Or maybe he just crashes, and is 'rescued' by some cult members.  Maybe the shuttle would be repaired at a later time, and it would make for a fine escape, assuming he lives long enough to make that happen.  I'm thinking either crash, or sabotage.  Either way, he's ending up at the compound.

What path should I take?

Oh, and this:

Popping the cigar in her mouth she drew a breath and the end sizzled as the ember's flared. "It's two hours ride to the Drowned Aspire compound. We've got water, nav gear. The suns up. And we're wearing cowboy hats. Let's roll".

Brilliant.

The compound thing seems to have slowed down so I'm not entirely sure myself.  I can't tell quite yet what the direction the whole compound thing is taking, if Naleena is going to take her 25 minutes of stealth while the guards get talked to death and they pay attention to Anika, or barring that an alternate plan.  I get the sense that we couldn't rescue your character until all hell breaks loose.  Honestly I don't know if the compound guards would stack up very well, but there's always an overwhelming number of people and quite frankly, I bet some heavy weapons that really don't take a lot of skill to go kill non-cultists with.

I left it for other people to figure out what to do right now.  Morgan spends his time distracting the guards.  Eventually they'll notice something is amiss, if someone sneaks off but hopefully that is pushed to the point that they would actually be back by then or have covered their footprints up.  But I can't speak for the more sneaky characters.

See?  This is what happens when the original request for characters in the story was more soldiers.  You have one.  I'm not as good at the sneaky stuff, sneaky as I can try to be.  On the other hand, nobody else has Overkill or Tech Armor :)

Sorry for being gone that long, I had homework today, which stunk in the heat. XP

Anyway, shotgun. Do you mind if I have my post before yours? Figured it'd be a nice transition for the us to work together taking this guy down. Bonding excercise and what-not.

EDIT: Also I got an idea for a new weapon, that isn't for vayne. :P I was wondering if you guys minded if I brainstormed it in here, to get your guys feedback.

Cool. XD

One idea was for a lever action rifle type weapon, one which worked by ejecting and loading thermal clips quickly for continuous rates of fire. It'd look like a lever action shotgun, but work like a sort of automatic carbine weapon. http://i.imgur.com/3hMB4.jpg

The other was for a combination gun, of a assault rifle and shotgun mix, where the upper barrel was a rifle configuration, but there would be a switch on the gun, where you could redirect the block shavings to a larger and more powerful lower barrel, which would serve as the shotgun. http://xetafacility....77_orig.jpg?433

I'll have something up by the end of today for the story. This thinking outside the box for how to get what we want done while frustrating the compound guards is a tall order..... But I like how people are tackling it.

Talk to folks.

Stealh and sneak away.

Finding tools, ala don't bother being duplitcitous. Just say your after your property... because really, the truth is that you are after your property.

Aelias and Samacen posts later on today I think.

I like colored dialogue, I think it's easier to follow, especially when there's several characters speaking.

I've got some reading to do now, There's a big chunk in the middle of CS that I haven't got to yet.

Naleena does her sneaky sneak. Drugs the computer tech, and leaves some drugs for him. This stuff comes in handy.

Okay, Morgan is probably not going to post significant action (who knows, maybe dialogue) until after Irina and/or Vayne have a chance to do what they are going to about the tools.  Assume he distracted the guards some, he assisted with Anika tossing her cookies, he keeps an eye out for the group to make sure nobody is screwing with us, and basically is available to talk to or do stuff with if someone else wants to for now.
