Pulling a train cart off the tracks would be possible as a dead lift with the Audron's vertical lift (I'm assuming since I don't know how big the train cars are) and some ME fields for a boost. Problem would be trying to make sure that whatever cables connecting the ship to the cart actually can support the load. Ships attached to the hull of the Audron are mag-lev'd, not cable-bound...

But that might pose an interesting question. If you could get the Audron on top of the cart then using mag-lev's and using the eezo core should allow the ship to pick up the cart easily. If the train cars are moved the same way they are on earth then there must be some sort of tether to lift them. Maglocks make as much sense as anything else so that might work. Forcing the commandos out of that car would then be necessary because once the car is lifted they can't get out without throwing themselves outside and trying to land on a further-ahead or behind car.

I was just typing something about that....it sounds like it fits your description.  Imagining the Audron would be equipped to pull something seems well within the realm of possible, and I don't know, for lifting a train car I would imagine the Audron even has reinforced cables for that, right?  It isn't a ship that is being lifted so much (and yeah, if it was I would imagine that would require a bit more.  )

I just went with maglock because it is the most likely to be used with transporting goods. No cables, faster load-grabbing etc. Doesn't have to be that.

Depending on the size of the train the use of cables or maglock becomes more or less feasible. The Audron is much larger than the car itself but trains are usually quite heavy themselves and depending on how big they are can make flight for the ship more or less easy to control from shifting weight.

For cables, you would assume that four are used at four points on the car for an even distribution of weight. You could use any spacewalker (Armiger or anyone else prepared for drop) to guide cables down to the latch-points on the top of the car to connect. On either side of the connect time-wise you can break the car off from its connecting cars so the lift can occur.

Mag locks you 'simply' pull low enough that the magnets on the bottom of the ship interact with those on the top of the car. It would be feasible that this is a common type of robbery though if one used large ships on Terminus planets to steal goods. It is possible that there would be a deadlock in the system of the train to prevent activation of the car's magnet. In that case a Commando or operator at the front of the train would need to disable the protocol to allow the container to be pulled away.

Actually... If you say the 'cars' are containers on top of trollies (the thing actually rolling along) it would be possible for the container containing the Silaris armor to be removed without disrupting the other cars beside it. Would be somewhat difficult though... But eh.

I presume on a high speed 'grav' rail the cars each have their own built in magplates.  So I imagine decoupling needed.  In the story, it isn't defined that they need cables to lift the car, so mag attachments are fine.  Whether it comes down to decoupling or releasing a deadlock system, someone with hacking skills should probably be there.

Anyway, I'm going to comandiere you to write Deidrus if you keep giving me good ideas.  So watch out!

Eh, it's the least I can do. If you ask D how to get the car away he is going to say something to the tone of:

"It is possible that we can remove the target container with minimal disturbance of the others by using cables or Mag-Lev to pull out our quarry. Issue is that both situations require us to get rather close to the target in a somewhat suspicious way which will ultimately put us within small-arms range. We will need to drop in people quickly and either get locked or tethered near-simultaneously as the front car is taken. The same tech which will allow us to drag out the car is holding them together and with the maximum load on ours lower than the decoupling limit of the surrounding cars we will be stuck. Without a way to move either close to the car or just above with tethers we will be sitting nicely for either biotic attacks and long range ballistics. People aboard the ship are fine thanks to shielding and plating. Those who have to return to the ship will be heavily suppressed."

... Alright maybe I have missed this just a bit.

But yes, in either case hacking is necessary and they are going to wind up with some issues around accidental prisoners in the container. How to deal with that... Dunno. Can't just go into space lest they accidentally kill them.

I'm going to be honest and say I don't remember someone named 'favoritehookeronthecitadel'. And I'm pretty sure I would. Regardless, thank you for the welcome :)

Does anyone mind if I grab control of Eteon now? I could play D too but if you guys are already chuggin along in a direction I don't want to cramp the stride.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but getting the armor material and actually applying it are going to be two different things. The application is going to be needed to be done in dry dock, at least from listening to the description in the Codex about Silaris armor. The ship's crew will not be able to do it, no matter how Mass Effect 2 handled it with the Normandy. There are three places that can do this: The Citadel, The shipyards on Thessia, and the shipyards on Cyone. Given that this is a Turian ship, you're going to be stuck with the Citadel, and have to get Council approval.

I figured that's how it would play out.  We have characters to pick up there anyways, right?

Plus I figure there will be things to do there in the down time, kind of like the stop at Omega.

Mhm. Not a lot of outs around that. There are engies on the Audron but they aren't people who can strip the ship to its basics and apply specialized materials.

The 'fun' part would be getting the rights to dock at the Citadel after the robbery. Might be a bit testy after that but when there are few choices you go with the 'well I had to' approach. Or complete denial. It worked for Saren if for a little bit.

I say we get this train thing under way by tomorrow, if that's good for all of you.  Someone can put this all together and if they do, that person gets to name the teams! Maybe...

@SJ I gave you some thoughts by PM and pretty much looks good with some things I thought you might want to consider.

The public one I'll mention is damn woman, why a dixie cup!  These are asari!  Don't they at least use plastic champagne glass flutes or something like that?

Dixie cups.... it's a cop thing. It's coffee. You're lucky I didn't toss a donut in it. Otherwise I made a few edits.

Spectre budget. They got the contract with Halliburton.

Edited my post as Eteon to be something more sensible with her tone in posts made more recently.

Also there should have been a 'The Heat'! Reference! If only because it is the only cop show I can think of off the top of my head.

It's cool though for mega plots we've been working on Deidrus came to the conclusion that waiting to get the armor would cost precious time and that ultimately meant lives, so that's the arc. Of course it also works out great that Eteon is not marching in rank and file on this....

Eteon is lucky because she has a range of leeway that D would never allow for most all the other Turians on his ship. He knows that he needs her around for the things he can't do as a tight-ass Turian. That allows her to get away with things like her attitude and is why he trusts her (to a point he sometimes regrets) in dealing with the aliens.

Hey guys. Not trying to get off topic, and if this is too off-topic just let me know, but for all of you Garrus fans out there, I spent about an hour tonight with Shepard and Garrus action figures trying to do a voice impression of Garrus. Not completely ashamed of the result. If you enjoy it, please like and subscribe XD.

Alright, so Frank goes with Deirdus. I think?

So do they take Frank's rickety Kodiak or is it being put to use by someone else?  I'm a little mixed up, as is my character lol.

Yes, Frank is with Deidrus.  His job is to make sure the anchors are located properly, secure, and that structurally nothing bad will happen to the train when the Audron lifts it.  Secondary objectives are smart aleck remarks, shooting things, and general mayhem.

Shuttle no, it is out for this mission.  He will be landing on the train with Deidrus and Eteon from the Audron itself as it uses its VTOL abilities to intercept the train from above, approximately at the second car.  The shuttle referenced is Vayne's personal shuttle.

Fusion dance is optional.  Recommended for after the mission not during.

Aelias as a character...yeah!

Sounds good.  I am no longer confused, but Frank is, because that's totally him.  He may need a little guidance/kick in the ass from Deidrus or Eteon, so do with that what you will.

"Get the ****** mounting done. If not, I'm letting you play with the Commandos who are resilient to chemical sedatives."

Eteon's kick delivered. :P
