Sounds good to me. the rpingopportunity provided by this is tantalizing enough imo to allow a bit of mental waving on my own part.

I should probably mention, Aspirant's aren't the bulk of every colony taken. They are the few who choose to join a cult. I'd rank their number's in the low hundred thousand range.

Well, for better or for worse the way it was is that the Alliance did little to nothing to protect its colonies in the Terminus. Protecting their colonies in the Traverse was difficult enough, dealing with things in the pirate's half of the Galaxy is fairly impossible. Thus, a large chunk of people go AWOL without much of a peep from the Alliance. Could be the wouldn't know until later depending on the reliance of a Colony on the Alliance...
But then again defending the ignoring of nearly a million people is difficult. I just go with what's there.
Depending on when I do the updates on what's going on with the Turian strike teams there will be different changes. One perceived Aspirant base or rallying point will turn up false, or a colony which wasn't expected to go dark will, so on, so forth. At worst there will be a few million Aspirants plus x number of Collectors. Fairly big, but seeing as that's only a couple times more than the Military of 2012 EU, not exactly desolation in the wake of buzzing feet.
Also, @Jen: The 'final' estimate will be based on RPers choice. As it stands now it is a high ball estimate because the assumption is that the colony abductions are at least partly into Aspirant production. We know it's actually going to the human reaper, but the RP chars don't know that. Yet.
Forget calls for military intervention from the people. However, the colonies are heavily dependent upon Eldfell-Ashland Energy. EAE funded Earth's colonization efforts, not the Systems Alliance. It's in the codex. The corporation would know. The corporation is an Earth company. Disappearances of colonies is lost revenue. The corporation would be screaming at the Systems Alliance gov't to do something. You realize that in the real world, corporations, especially huge conglomerates control politicians and governments, not the other way around. This is not small potatoes to EAE, and they hate Cerberus. Why? Because The Illusive Man was ordering their ships shot down to spread refined eezo over colonies to see if it caused pregnancies to result in human biotics. So no funding to Cerberus from them.
But the writers of ME2, Drew K. and others, failed to recognize this. Again Wile E. Coyote. The plot falls down into a canyon. Bioware couldn't even get military ranks correct, nor could they get habitable zones on planets correct. What could you expect? Nitpicking this plot has become a hobby.

Feel free to nitpick, it's not a big deal for me one way or another. There are all sorts of weird things throughout the series and when you are RPing you either need to roll with what has lead up to the events or change what happened dramatically. Hence why a lot of RPs I have seen either go sideways and ignore the games or take place with a generic post-ME.

I just see it like a star wars rp setting. Some things you either have to ignore entirely or follow regardless of personal feeling. Especially when it comes to force users 'n things.

The Most contentious things in RPs... (As I have seen them)
- Technology
- Biology
- Sociology
'Cuz if you aren't arguing about whether tech makes sense, you're arguing about whether someone can do that, and if not that you are arguing about whether a group WOULD do that.

I brought this up in general by PM, but the problem I see is the equivalent of trying to write a Batman comic where on one hand he's having trouble with a gotham style villain, and then DC wants to have him standing next to Superman as superman, you know, punches out the Sun God. One in a million comics finds a way to make it work, and then there is a pile of ridiculous garbage where you know Batman is smart so he comes up with 'the plan' and yet it is emphasized that Superman is just an eety bit smarter. Then they let the fans argue how come that is while never bothering to explain it.
We're heading that way when you have Iyana, or, you know, only hundreds of thousands of Aspirants. Right? Now either we make the heroes look stupid having a hard time fighting the one person (like superman has to become suddenly dumb when encountering Batman) while being able to fend off a gidzillion Aspirants like a bunch of Mexican banditos...you know, even though each is as tough as an Alien thing from Aliens...
That's a rant at this point with no solution that sounds good yet. Anyway, on with the story...

I actually could deal with say 100,000 aspirants. And they're getting off worlds. That's a lot, right? At that number, I'd say about 5% are making it off the worlds. Hence, the nuclear response on Duellos because good is not dumb. Military is not dumb. If there was an outbreak of an airborne variety of ebola, they'd nuke the region and blame terrorists. With the way the situation was being described that's what the response necessitated. Ever play Starcraft and built up the maximum number of zerglings and then launched your attack on your opponent?
But when we're dealing with hundreds of thousands of aspirants it starts getting ridiculous unless we keep the number that get off the worlds to 1%. Just for balance. Any more than that and it becomes an overwhelming priority for the military. Still as tough asthey are, they are enough to wipe out colony defense forces and colonists. Colonists who manage to escape will spread the word - this will have repercussions in the stock market, and will cause conglomerates like EAE to demand action. EAE, headed by Jonas Ashland who is one of the richest people in the galaxy, cannot be ignored by the Systems Alliance government.
Do you know those refueling stations in Alliance space, the Traverse, and in parts of the Terminus? He owns those.
My solution is that we reduce the number of aspirants to around 20,000 spread out over the other satellite Aspire missions. After all the satellite missions don't have the charismatic leaders like Jeb. People wanted to go to Duellos and be part of the real thing. The number of aspirants that got off world are maybe 1000 - 5000. The rest have been contained. More than that, and "boots on the ground" are going to get zerged.

I'll deal with the Aspirant outbreak. We're on the Citadel so it's time for news flashes to happen.

Yeah, the Aspirants are of your design so you do get a fair say on how many, where they are, their abilities. And their photo-savvy nature when raiding planets. ![]()

@RB: sent you a convo by PM to do a quick back and forth.
Re: Aspirants. I'm want to be clear this isn't a complaint about them, or the Collectors or the Reapers. It is just more of the grief I see trying to basically do the equivalent of explain why SpiderMan has a hard time fighting Green Goblin, then shows up to fend off, you know, Galactus.
Are we cool with moving the plot forward with the characters in general, Vayne, Frank, Essul (still have to work him in) Valkyr (still have to work her in), FH's character (sorry forgot the name), basically meeting up on the Citadel and/or getting aboard the Janiri when it shows up one way or another, and then going off in pursuit of whatever objectives? Or is something going to go down in the meantime?

Regarding the combat situation. My personal take on violence is that it costs the character in some way. Taking the Medusa for example, Jess lost a lot there. It wasn't one on one combat but it was her life being stripped back to nothing and spoiled while the villain made Jess's home her own instead of hers..... And she had fun doing it while Jess is helpless.
It's been a massive blow, but Jess being a hero has endured, endured, endured even more. Been taken to the end of her rope, and is getting ready to be let off the leash.... but come the end, I still don't know if she has it in her to show some form of mercy. The thing is, no amount of counter violence will get back what Iyana took. It's that harsh treatment where you literally tear your character down to the root's and watch them try to build themselves back up that makes character so compelling.
Regarding one on one's or group actions, I've always gone for leaving marks on the character's or making them deliberately vulnerable. Back on Duellos Jess didn't have her armour, so she had to stay out of the fighting to a large degree. But the Aspirant's came after her anyway and she could fire at a ROF fast enough to take them down. Which was a problem. The solution came from another character who shot them down on Jess's behalf.
On the train, Jess's visor took a hard hit and cracked the visor. Leading to Anika to observe that without her helmet she would have been blinded. A crack to the head like that put her into aggressive mode and so on and so forth.....
Basically, I always like to put in consequence's that don't always go the character's way. To this end, Jess needs Anika to back her up. But Anika sometimes get's seperated and.....
Well you get the idea.
