Has anyone put up the 'Peeping Janes' Amio picture up here yet? That's got quite a bit of handsome shirtless men in it. I'll be glad to grab it if it isn't up yet (which would surprise me greatly if it isn't somewhere around here)

EDIT: Too impaicent to wait for an answer or go hunting through the thread putting up Amio drawn shirtless Blackwall now. (hidden in spoilers for size)

Spoiler

I LOVE this!   Was I the only one that cracked up at Solas covering himself there at the end? And that totally sounds like something Varric would say!  I am now hoping for a scene like this in a future Bioware game.  :D

(Conversation with Sera)

Sera: Blackwall, have I ever asked you about your rank in the Order?

Blackwall: I don't recall you doing so, but if you must know, I was a Constable.

Sera: What does that mean, exactly?

Blackwall: Well, a Warden-Constable is second-in-command to the Warden-Commander, and usually acts as the field commander.

Sera: And how was that, being a field commander?

Blackwall: In truth, it wasn't easy. Not for my physical, nor for my mental health. I've seen a lot of good, even young people die.

Sera: I... I'm sorry to hear that. Forgive me for bringing this up.

Blackwall: Oh, no need to apologize. It's okay. In death, we find sacrifice, to ensure the safety of others. Such is the duty of a Warden.

Sera: I sense a lot of pride in what the Order stands for, Blackwall.

Blackwall: And you're not wrong. Our cause is just.

How do the Blackwall fans think he feels about Cole, actually?

I'm drawn to the idea of him slightly mistrusting the young Cole, but eventually they connect and start learning from each other. Cole about Warden-stuff and the darkspawn, Blackwall about justice and helping those that are innocent (yes, Blackwall is all about protecting the innocent as well but that doesn't mean that he has a lot of experience outside Grey Wardens-related stuff).

I think the two would get along. Their friendship my be a little here and there at the start, but I think the two will get along.

I don't think he will trust Cole.  Beyond that I don't really know how they will get along.

I don't see their initial relationship being a close one, but I think Blackwall will say something along the lines of, "At least he's not a Darkspawn" or "I've seen worse crap as a Grey Warden".

I think Blackwall will be Cole's "daddy". And since they both value compassion and dislike egoism, I guess they will have surprisingly a lot in common, despite the age difference. Maybe I am wrong.

What about the other companions? My guesses...

Cassandra: Guess they will get along fine, respecting each other for their skills, visions, sense of responsibility. Team "Duty".

IB: I see a lot of jokes in their party banter. Even dirty ones. Will get along fine.

Solas: I think it was confirmed that the two will have "kids these days" talks. A good team.

Dorian: I have honesty no idea how they will react to each other. Brace yourselves, beard-stache banters are coming. I think Dorian will respect Beardy for his intellect (BW seems quite clever in his letter from WoT). Same for BW towards Dorian: Guess he approves on Dorians view on Tevinter and of his wish to "get it rid of corruption".

Sera: He might see her in a fatherly way: A young, wild and irrational girl. So banter will have some advices from Beardy's side. Guess he is not so fond of "stealing from the rich to keep it for herself", and would encourage Sera to "share and help". Also BW might talk to her about Cole. Like a father talks to quarreling siblings.

Varric: Best buddys.

And for Vivienne...this banter says it all.

Vivienne: Get rid of your nasty beard, you man-bear, or work on your tish manners! I can even tell what you had for lunch today. Those disgusting nug bones are still trapped in your filthy facial hair.

BW: Indeed, I remember eating nugs. Yesterday.

Vivienne: You are even more revolting than I thought. You are not just a wild pig, but a cannibal. A boar eating nugs. Disgusting.

BW: So am I now a bear or a boar?

(depending on who is in the party)

IB (enthusiastic): Beer? Who said beer?!

Varric: ...and I thought you were a griffon. Even had a nickname, Feathers.

Sera: A boareskarn. You're even tainted! (laughs)

Dorian: That's why I prefer moustaches.

Solas: So she has found a new victim. (sighs)

Cole: A man?

Cassandra: Bullshit. Nug filet was the day before yesterday.

Oh that's brilliant.
And yeah, what you said about his relationships with other companions makes a hell of a lot of sense.

Question.

Why do so many people think Blackwall is so close to his calling when we don't even know how long ago he went through his joining?

He's been a Grey Warden since some time before the Fifth Blight.  That means in DAI, he'll be over ten years past his joining.

There is a letter in WOT written by a Warden-Constable Blackwall. Not only he joined before 9:30, but already was a high-ranking officer. That doesn't mean he will go to his calling 5 minutes after we meet him, though.

I'd just like to say that if Varric doesn't get the LI spot. I hope you guys get Blackwall. I think his romance could be really sweet and tragic.

Thank you for your kind words. :)  I hope after those supersecretive LI will be revealed, there would be no hard feelings and fans fighting for their favourites like in unfortunate ME forums.

I hope the same, I don't think we need to worry about it. The Solas, Varric, and Blackwall threads house some of the nicest people on the forum. I imagine they'll be disappointment. But I know a lot of us will be congratulating the fans of the last LI.

Right, but even if he's been a Warden for 20 years, he still has 10 years left. Doesn't sound that bad to me. Anyway, we'll find out in the game I guess. Maybe, he is close to his joining. We can only speculate about this so far.

Do you mean this based on Alistair: "Thirty years" thing?

DG: It's something I put in Alistair's dialogue that I now regret! Afterwards I was like, "Wow, thirty years is a long time for that time frame." I didn't really intend when I was writing it, and only afterwards when I went back I said "Oh...I guess it does sort of implies thirty years after you take the Calling, doesn't it..." Sorry, after you take the Joining. That wasn't really my intention. But it's out there now so I'm like, okay, thirty years. But the idea is also that it varies. Thirty years is the maximum that you could probably expect. It's going to vary for an individual according to their willpower and the level of their interaction with the darkspawn. During a Blight you can expect that the Grey Wardens are going to have shorter lifespans. Outside of a Blight the Grey Wardens would tend to live longer. We have instances in the game of people going on their Calling after five or ten years. Alistair's thirty year quote shouldn't be taken as gospel, that's the way I like it.

Have we considered the possibility that the need for his Calling may be "cured" at some point in-game? Fiona's need was cured, and Justice may have cured Anders'.

I imagine that is what his personal quest is about, to be honest.

Has it ever been confirmed that the letter in WoT is from this Blackwall? For all we know it was his dad or brother that wrote it :P

I also don't think any of the companions are going to have a scripted death that can't be avoided since we can play past the end of the story and I don't think they would "take away" companions.

I've wondered that as well, CuriousArtemis.  Would be a kinda neat story.

and the split decision would be for blackwall to be cured and fail to save some people due to not having enough time or to save a group of people and losing his chance of an untainted life.

let him stick with his ideals to the end or persuade him to sway from his path in order to save his life.

Wait... that sounds almost like the reverse of the problem Batman is faced with: abandoning his ideals by killing the Joker and possibly saving lots of lives in the future, or stand by his ideals and let the Joker live, thereby endangering others. The problem being that he doesn't know whether or not the Joker will ever kill again.

Love it!! In concept... don't want to actually have to make this decision in game
