God, can we already get a trailer of some sort wherein we get to heat Blackwall speak?

For some reason Blackwall's and Josephine's VA are hush-hush.

They can talk, right? Right?

We haven't gotten any new screenies of him. Even the interview with his writer was pretty vague. Since he was one of the first companions/concept arts we saw, I figured he was a major player. But we have had nothing on him for a while. I'm not sure what to think now!

it may well be that they haven't pinned down everything about him yet and don't want to say anything that isn't 100% confirmed, it was only until a few weeks ago that they were able to say IB is a romance for everyone as hoped rather than rage-gated. Maybe something similar is happening with Blackwall.

Why spoil the surprise? ^_^

[SC]: I had a great deal of fun writing Blackwall. At least part of it was asking why someone might find the Grey Wardens appealing. Why choose to be part of that? A heroic sacrifice is still a sacrifice. What sort of person could decide that dying for something is better than just living?

And I would love to say more, but I won't. Ask me again in October.

In the light of this, I wouldn't not expect info flow on Blackwall before the game. Maybe voice actor reveal. Frustrating? Yes, comparing the hype surrounding some other characters. And even now some people assume Blackwall will be boring basing on the lack of info about him. But... info revealed mostly is defined by marketing department and... well I expect the last months before release will be pretty tense. And they will be more focused on other gameplay features.

Disclaimer: I posted this in the DA:I Party Banter Thread and thought I would do so in this one, too (so the Blackwall Discussion Thread is no longer on the 2nd page  <_<).

For some reason I think Cole and Blackwall could bond over their (speculated) sad character arcs.

Cole: So...

Blackwall: Out with it, lad.

C: Why are you called Blackwall? I mean, I guess your hair is black, but you're not a wall... right?

B: [laughs] No, not in the way you're thinking.

C: Then what?

B: It's just a name. But at the same time it's more than just a name.

C: I don't understand.

B: Well, take yourself, for example. On the surface you appear to be a young man, but we both know that there's more to it. You don't know exactly what you are, but you strive to help people, even at great risk to yourself.

C: You... noticed?

B: [smiles] Of course I did, lad. Who wouldn't?

Cole: Blackwall, it just occurred to me that you never answered my question.

Blackwall: You'll have to refresh my memory, lad.

C: Why "Blackwall"?

B: Ah, of course. I'm a Grey Warden, and I protect people from the Blight and the Darkspawn. I am the wall between us and them. But walls aren't impervious; enemies will find cracks and breach them or find a way to scale the walls. Perhaps enough time will pass for the stones to crumble into dust.

C: I don't understand. Can't you just fix the wall or add to it?

B: Er... I kind of ran with the metaphor, didn't I? But no - all walls fall down eventually. And my own time is fast approaching, I fear.

C: Oh. Is there anything I could... do for you?

B: No, lad. Tradition dictates that I go to the Deep Roads to kill as many Darkspawn as I can before I fall. It is something I must do alone. I appreciate your offer, though.

C: You aren't alone. You have friends.

B: [smiles] I know, lad. I know.

:( I've had to come to terms with a lot concerning DAI romances, so it's no surprise. Worst case scenario, I wait a couple days before playing the game, wait for the wiki to be uploaded.

RrrrrAGHHHHHH!!! *releases scream of pent up emotion* I'm still getting over the Cullen disappointment, and now this! I told myself I'd not get attached to the possibility of Blackwall, and NOW look at me! *slaps self a few times* I think I need to clear my head and perhaps consider playing a different inquisitor for my first playthrough! *sigh*

Well, I don't live in NA so it's November 21 for me anyway. Probably will wait for some poor american soul to necro this thread in 4 months.

LOL that's sad but tis a sound strategy. The hidden silver lining behind getting the game late? I know I'll just be checking the wiki obsessively.

Yep I've got four so far! First and most beloved is my male Dalish archer who was meant to romance Cullen. I switched to Blackwall then because he's the closest in type (and the only other guy I find attractive). Second is a male Dalish Mage who will romance Bull. Then human female warrior with Sera and female dwarf rogue with Josie.

That I also plan to do. I hope Sera doesn't hate humans.

Aww, no love for Cass?

And what about Dorian?

Unfortunately I am just massively turned off by Dorian's look. It's a real shame! As for Cass, I sadly just don't have any interest in playing a straight male character, though I probably wouldn't have romanced her even with a female character. I like her, just not as a romance.

I won't lose hope.  And it's okay, I will love him regardless if they tell us or not :)

I never plan my first pc...my first one is always fly by the seat of my pants and live with all my mistakes girl.  My poor first Shepard, LOL.   Such a brave, silly girl.  After I've seen the game I start planning them out.

That is the smart way to do it. My first Warden *facepalm* ... he had to sleep with Morrigan to save his life  because damn it if I couldn't persuade Alistair to do it (didn't understand what persuasion skills were LOL). My first Hawke completely missed recruiting Isabela >.<

I kind of don't mind those facepalm-worthy first playthrough moments; I just like to have my LI down solid lol I played both games with the wiki open so I wouldn't mis-step on the romances

Ha! I always go in the taverns in RPG, it's almost always a source of quests, talks and lols. And my Hawkes pretty much lived in the Hanged Man (because for some reason I coudn't change companion's equipment in Amell mansion. Why did I buy that thing again?)

I think you can't miss Cassandra, Vivienne and Varric. And advisors will be handed to you by the plot. As for other guys...Look in every corner, under every stone. Or you can miss them...

So, now when I calmed down, I must say that I really appreciate your honesty in this matter. I'm sorry if I was too grumpy. Thank you for communicating with us. I'm sure Blackwall will be a great character and my Inquisitors will have great time adventuring with him. :)

I didn't mean to be grumpy either! I've just had the unfortunate lot of being in a small, small, minuscule minority of people who are planning a male inquisitor and wanted to romance Cullen and now Blackwall  Like, really? I couldn't have made it any worse for myself :P

Another confession.  I played ME first and I didn't know there were romances.  My son told me after I met Kaidan.  He was like "you like Kaidan?" And I was like..."Uh, yeah.  He seems nice."  And he says "You can romance him." And I was like "WHAAAA!" *Runs to talk to Kaidan ever 2 seconds.*

I went into both Dragon Age games not knowing who the romances were.  I was so happy when it seemed Alistair liked me.  He is soooo cute!  I think my first DA2 romance was Anders.  I didn't even know he was in the game.  Yeah, I used to make sure I knew nothing.  Then ME3....I like to know a little bit now.  I feel like romances are something that won't spoil the story for me so I usually stick to that and sometimes game play stuffs.

But about Blackwall:  I'm having a really good feeling about his chances lately.  I'm not sure why though...just my gut :)

I just don't want to be disappointed again  But also I'm afraid if I play my Dalish mage first (who is intended for Iron Bull) and midway through the game I realize Blackwall is romance-able, well... I'm afraid I'll go for him instead, and that's just not right! Damn it, why did I have to plan these characters out years in advance?! Just makes life so difficult

EDIT: And meant to say I agree with you about the romances; they're the only things I "spoil" myself on. I was frantic when playing ME3 (first ME game for me), chanting under my breath, when Kaidan's in the hospital, buy him the booze. Buy him the booze. Don't forget to buy him the booze. So in a sense I did spoil myself knowing Kaidan would eventually be hospitalized, BUT how it happened was still an emotional shock (I nearly cried, and I barely knew the character at that point!) AND it eased up my anxieties so I'd know how to initiate the romance LOL

No worries! I didn't read it as grumpy. I understand that people are getting anxious about the last two LIs and getting more information in general and I was just hoping to temper expectations a little bit. Sometimes it seems that the lingering hope that you'll hear something soon ("Today? Maybe tomorrow? Oh god, I don't want to go to bed!") is what makes the wait especially painful. I figure, well, if you think it's not coming and allow your mind to move on to other things, and then something does get revealed, it'll be a happy surprise!

As someone who would love to have Blackwall and Cass romance with a female avatar I understand you perfectly.

Confession. First Bioware game I played was KOTOR. I created fem PC and went through the game without romancing Carth ( I didn't know you could). And it was great! I was in love with SW, and it was SW RPG! I was in heaven.

Then I created male PC and romanced Bastila. And it made already great game even better. I remember staying there before meeting Bastila on the Rakata planet, and that music played, and I knew what was about to happen, and it hurt. Romance made that scene so much more poignant. And then you can save her! The feels...

Yes romance is a very small part of the story and not every story needs it. Yet it can make  it so much richer.
