Well, twitter is a good source of info. While sometimes it is but a fun, quite often they do let pretty canon info slip
P.Weekes twitted about writing a LI (in a way) months before the Iron Bull was officially announced and I already knew he would be. There was a comment on Chee's character being furry/hairy and it became obvious it was Black wall. Etc.
So either Blackwall is not a LI, or he is not really interested in lots of sex. He can't be an asexual since Gaider commented earlier that they would love in future to approach such romance, but not ready yet
Maybe it was a sarcastic twit and it means the opposite - that Blackwall loves sex a lot? Unlikely, though

It seems pretty sarcastic to me, but tone doesn't translate well. Anyway, no point in being a debbie downer about it. Let's hope for the best.

I'm going with sarcasm.

I think it's a little unfair to scrutinize the tweets of the devs, they aren't a source of official news - this is just the devs having a bit of fun among themselves. It's nice to see their tweets when there isn't much in the way of news forthcoming, but that is it.

I would also say to keep having hope and remain positive. BioWare likes providing different takes on romance in each game. Some LIs have shared similar traits but they have always been unique and brought something new to the table. I think Blackwall still has a good chance.

Maybe we can speculate on what his first name is? I still find it amusing we don't even know that :P

Anyway, keep having hope guys! I shall pass out hugs and cookies to anyone who needs them :)

Juuuust gonna leave something I typed earlier today on my tumblr in response to being tagged in reblogs of premature fatalism, because I'm lazy like that :D

I read the exchange as facetious, especially in light of lore details that we already know from even as far back as DA:O regarding Grey Wardens:

Taking these into account, I easily read the tweets as jokes in expense of his older age, implying that stereotypical regular older folk would rather relax on their rocking chairs out of harm’s ways, comfy in their cotton jammies and fitting sandals, sipping warm tea, etc etc. Which is the total opposite of what we know of Blackwall's character so far from Sheyl's interview about him.

Of course, when you gotta explain the joke...welp. Not that it was our joke to share in to begin with.

At this point, everyone's just desperate to mine any information, whether it's to confirm their own opinions or disprove another's. Expect this to go on repeat until release, or when someone official finally decide to spill the beans before then.

I'm just gonna sit in this corner doing work (and getting antsy waiting to see GOTG on Sunday) while occasionally side-eyeing in the direction of Marketing.

would love to see some soldier npcs call out to Blackwall, saying he's too old for the inquisition.

only for Blackwall to then serve them a whole platter of humble pie with his combat prowess.

@Aimo

I certainly prefer you explanation to Blackwall being an asexual coward

(not that there is something wrong with being asexual, but the coward part... yeah).

Edit for grammar.

1) You don't know that the Joining ritual can kill you until it's too late to leave.

2) You can dislike danger and still put yourself in dangerous situations. In DA II, Isabela was a thrill seeker while Aveline was not, but both of them joined Hawke on her adventures. That's because Aveline was motivated by things like duty and friendship.

Blackwall might be the kind of person who does something *despite* it being dangerous.

Um, someone who dislikes danger isn't a coward. Nor is someone who's afraid of danger.

Cowardice and fear are not the same thing, you can be brave and afraid at the same time. Cowardice would be not stepping up to face danger,

There being a high casualty rate amongst Warden recruits must be at least moderately common knowledge.  I mean, it doesn't take a genius for someone at Ostagar to notice that 3 Warden Recruits enter, 1 Warden Recruit leaves.

See ? I'm telling you we all read way to much into what the devs say, unless it's an official announcement or they answer someone and say "No you can't romance x character" Then don't assume things.

Everyone at Ostigar died. :P

Accurate information was difficult to get in the pre-modern world.

Yes, Anora might know that Warden recruits tend to die, but that might be because they're seen as unfit and are executed. If a GW takes someone from your city or village then you'll probably never see them again, whether they survive the Joining or not.

Not to mention that the 'typical' Joining probably takes place far where people can easily observe the proceedings or the number of recruits.

And iirc, in playthroughs that spare Loghain, doesn't Anora say to the effect of knowing about the possible death from the Joining, making it a just punishment for her dad either way?

I was like "Wait, HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?"

Duncan must've plied on the sauce during the Warden welcoming party in Denerim smh

I keep thinking of his possible reaction at being foolishly challenged as this:

Spoiler

With Varric and Sera taking bets among the troops on the side, of course :)

It will be nice to have a mentor figure who doesn't die horribly. I am still bummed about Wynne.

I wonder if he'll give me sage advice about duty, responsibility, and not abusing my powers.

*snipping wonderful pic for length*

I hope he doesn't. I was not a fan of Wynne's lectures, and I had no inclination to try to live up to her ideal of what a warden should be.

Now advice on difficult situations... that I'll happily listen to.

Loghain took control of the Grey Warden's embassy in Denerim when he assumed Regency and probably did an intel sweep of it. He did have the Archdemon blood required to perform the Joining. And in his cameo in Awakening hands over the rest of it's supplies to the Warden-Commander.

The Grey Warden cipher is also found at Howe's Estate during 'Rescue the Queen'.

I can see Wynne and Blackwall seeing eye to eye on what a Warden ought to be. It's just that Blackwall also has first hand experience on what the GW actually are.

I imagine he's going to be like James Gordan in Batman Year One: An honest cop who know how corrupt the system is but still tries to do what's best. Perhaps that's why he joins the Inquisition. It's a chance to be part of a organization that's still idealistic.

Never had a problem with lectures.

I hope the advice Blackwall gives depends on what the Inquisitor actually does.  Some Inquisitors might need help loosening up a bit, rather than a "straighten up and fly right" lecture.  Some might need to be more ruthless, some less.

Problem with Wynne was that her lectures were pretty much one size fits all, no matter what you did or said.

I didn't get the feeling that Wynne was as seasoned or wise as she thought she was. It seemed as though she was mostly a sheltered circle mage that didn't actually know as much about the world or even herself as she thought she did. She seemed fairly out of touch with reality, to me. I hope Blackwall has a more realistic view of the world and gives more grounded advice.

I agree. I liked Wynne, but it was weird when she gave you advice on being a Grey Warden while not being one herself (especially considering as a Circle mage, she probably didn't have too many dealings with the outside world).

I would welcome Blackwall's more practical/realistic advice.

I can see him hanging around Skyhold and giving fatherly advice about you needing to get a proper education if you want to close those tears in the sky.

That and stern lectures about remembering to use protection.

He comes across quite idealistic though.

But he does seem to have far more experience than Wynne had.

I'm fine with him lecturing the Inquisitor from time to time, provided he knows what he's talking about and has experiences on the matter at hand. It was always hard to take Wynne's lectures regarding the Grey Warden's seriously.

I still liked her though.
