Why not Cassandra then, as she is the only warrior companion that has been featured with a sword and shield?
Cassandra has already been shown in gameplay videos, Blackwall hasn't so far minus that recent video

That's Blackwall.
There is slight distortion, so he doesn't look proportionate, and kind of looks like a dwarf.
This only feeds my "Blackwall is really Thorin Oakenshield" headcanon >.<

I'm not saying they should, just that it doesn't seem like the weapon style should be much of a priority. If they've already shown Cassandra with a sword and shield, then what's the point of changing the weapon Blackwall's been shown with exclusively?

His initial concept art was sword and shield, and he's been seen using that style way back when.

In Bioware news the Edmonton studio has painted the brick wall in the parking lot black, thus naming it the Blackwall.
