Varric fan here, as well as Blackwall. I don't remember if I posted here today. But I'm really glad you guys are still in the running. I hope you get it just as much as I hope Solas and Viv do. Though I must admit I'm biased towards Blackwall.

I liked the fan theory that Blackwall was a former Chevalier, but in one of the recent gameplay vids you can hear a small bit of random combat dialogue from Blackwall. It sounds like he has an English VA. 

 

Although he is an Orlesian Warden I wonder if his origins might lie elsewhere, like Ferelden or the Free Marches.

 

You know what makes me wonder? After watching Indira Varma video where she is acting Vivienne, I didn't notice a trace of french accent. (Yes, we could hear her earlier in the game, but that was just one phrase, also without accent). And Viv is definitely an Orlesian. And all demos take place in Ferelden so we are yet to hear Orlesian NPC talking. While Allegra Clark spoke with italian (?) accent when acting Josephine. That's strange. I want to hear some native Orlesian speaking.

 

Eh, I would gladly discuss something else about Blackwall but his LI status. It's just we don't know a thing about him.

 

Last two LIs still yet to be announced, and with luck Blackwall is one of them

Yeah, with Varric out of the way (and I was so sure it was him when they said one of the 2 left would be race restricted romance) means that there are only 3 romance candidates left! Blackwall, Solas and Vivienne.

 

Sorry, but myself I'm pretty sure that it's not going to be Blackwall since I think he's to old and being a veteran Grey Warden... they don't usually have much of a love life, if I remember it right. But if it is then I don't think he will be the race-restricted one. Grey Wardens doesn't care about race and Bioware would only do that if they had to because of the nature of the character and I just don't see that here. I think it will be Vivienne that's race-restricted. Unless Solas hates humans or something.

 

I just saw a sex scene in my mind were the Inquisitor undress Blackwall and asks "Weere is it?" were he looks down and say "By the Maker, it's fallen off. I heard it happen to other Wardens but never thought it would happen to me!".

Chevalier's are Orlesian Nobles.  If Blackwall is a Ferelden or a Marcher he couldn't be a Chevalier.

Hi folks! Just saving a spot for when the guillotine falls.... if he's a romance option I shall celebrate, if not... well, I went through this with Cullen already so I'll probably need to be picked up off the floor and dusted. So....

 

I am impressed that it's so easy to fall in love with these characters without really knowing them, but it makes it so sucky when the romance news hits. No matter if it's before or after it drops. I'm hoping before.

Not trying to be rude..but could we not rain on the Blackwall party?  It seems every so often people need to come in and remind us he is OLD AND TAINTED, I'm certain most of us know that.

Seems like lots of Kaidan fans are on the Blackwall train. (I know I am!) Interesting. And no, I will not stop saying I want to romance him because he's old and tainted. What about wanting to romance a big, rump roast of a man is so wrong? Especially when we're the gravy! (Blackwall for m/m romance because the sass bores me!)

I think when people first came here, it wasn't for romance (me included). At that point 4 options was the most popular speculation, 6 if you were really optimistic. Hopes went up when 8 options were announced. The more people wait however, the more unpleasant will be the news their favourite didn't make it. I hope they don't wait until release to announce the last two damn options. Because at this point fans of 3 characters are unlucky to be suspended in the air, while the other celebrate (or mourn) and plan their avatars, while we can't.

Romance or friend, I expect Blackwall will be in my party a lot. Friendship is important part of the game for me. (I hope it won't be like Mass Effect 2 where people stop talking to you if not romanced - hi, Jack). You don't have to romance them to get to know each other. If Blackwall is a romance option I will rejoice, if not I will hope for the great friendship path.

Honestly, him been 'old and tainted' only makes him more unique and interesting... Plus it gives a lot of material for the writers to use to feed their insatiable thirst for fan tears
