It's difficult to say how to build anybody without much information on specialisations. I guess reaver is offensive (good for 2H) and champion is defensive/party buffs (good for S&S) but what about templar? There will be a lot of demons and mages in the game. Maybe templar will be even better tank?

I plan my PC as a rogue and while I can guess more or less about artificer (lots of gadgets) and assassin (DPS), but what does tempest do? And can you play without, say, mages or you will need every class? I want to run a party with Blackwall, Cassandra, Sera and Rogue-Inquisitor, can I do it? Did I say I hate it that warriors cannot use ranged weapons anymore? Because I really hate it.

Sigh. It's still in the air.

i think a templar will be a gimmicky type, kind of like an entropy mage.  The templar specializations in the previous games were all speced towards magic resistance and mage killing, so its kind of a blend tank/cannon hybrid... but all of those only go against mages, not anything else

Honestly, I would not be surprised right now if Blackwall turned out to be a romance character, the odds are against him but given Viv's personality it could make sense. Solas however may as well be confirmed because let's face it, he basically has been.

4)Red templars (?) - behemoths look suspicious.

I bet all these guys use magic attack. Imagine dwarf-templar! And random mobs without magic attacks usually are not a problem anyways.

And hi Coldy! I like Solas a lot, too; I just wish he had hair, even a shaved head would be better than nothing but hopefully I will get a new tower soon so can buy DAI on PC (using xbox controller b/c I'm not a PC player AT ALL), then can maybe add some hair for the poor boy!

 

But I neeeeed Blackwall after losing Cullen; my Lavellan needs a knightly type! Please, BioWare, PLEASE!!!!! You're my (last and) only hope I want to be love this game and be excited about it, but it's really hard right now. They need to rip the band-aid off; just tell us.

Well, mathematically speaking, his chances just went from 25% to 33.3% (sorry Varric fans )

 

But I think we can all agree that Solas is all but confirmed (thanks to his VA). So it's between Vivienne and Blackwall.

 

They said everyone would get a choice... not that everyone would get equal choice. At this point I'm not putting Vivienne ahead of Blackwall just because she's a woman. Of course I have a personal stake in the matter since I want Blackwall.

 

It's really sad because of the remaining four, I really wanted Vivienne and Blackwall. Oh well.

I also feel a little conflicted over Vivienne because from what little we know of her, I don't like her. However, I loved Morrigan (who many think is unlikeable) so maybe I'll come to love Vivienne, too. I'm just not sure if I want her to be a LI.

She also sounds very different to Morrigan though, in a lot of key ways. If she is a LI, I can't see myself romancing her. Blackwall on the other hand...

Since you all have been talking builds/specs for Blackwall, I suspect I am going to change him up, over multiple play throughs. I know I like to take all the companions out, at least once in a while, which means there will always be two Warriors who will be spec'ed similarly. For the first run though, I think I will make Blackwall a DPS two-hander, Iron Bull an off-tank two-hander, and Cassandra a tank S&S.

Since you all have been talking builds/specs for Blackwall, I suspect I am going to change him up, over multiple play throughs. I know I like to take all the companions out, at least once in a while, which means there will always be two Warriors who will be spec'ed similarly. For the first run though, I think I will make Blackwall a DPS two-hander, Iron Bull an off-tank two-hander, and Cassandra a tank S&S.

 

I was thinking of making him a Two-hander too because he looks really good with it but I like collecting shields and seeing them in-game.

So Iron Bull will be the one swinging oversized weapons and Blackwall will be a SnS warrior along with Cassandra so they can collect and exchange shields together!

(I always headcanoned that Alistair and my Femcousland were bromancing over shields, Aveline and a warrior PC too but I didn't finish my warrior PT in DA2).

And since I will be a mage or rogue first in Inquisition...

Unfortunately only two are left to be announced. I think my preferences at this point are Solas and Blackwall, though. I don't think I'll be too fond of Vivienne's political ways.

Since they've brought up the fact that everyone has two choices and thus the remainder are not equal I was thinking that, bear with me, Solas was bisexual and un-gated for races. That being said what if:

A: Blackwall is straight; and he and Cullen are both gated. I don't know if they'd be gated against one, two, or three races but I have a feeling Cullen is definitely okay with humans and elves at least because of Amell and Surana. That being said I have no idea what Blackwall would be gated against since I don't know much about his personal feelings/experiences.

B: Blackwall is gay; and he and Dorian are gated. This time I don't know too much about both of them. The possibility of Dorian not being with our Kossith due to the Qunari vs Tevinter though isn't too far fetched even though he has different ideals.

 

So whichever orientation gets one more LI option has both options be race-gated? I'm not sure what the feedback would be, but I think that would be fair.

The game is going to take place during a limited timeframe.  It's highly unlikely that any companion is going to die of old age or the taint during this time.  Blackwall, Cullen, Morrigan, Solas, Cassandra, Leliana, Iron Bull, and Varric are all about the same age, and the devs have stated that the progression of the taint is not uniform.  Time to drop it.

Not saying he can't, simply giving my reasons for why I don't think he will. If Bioware wants to do a good tragic romance he's the perfect candidate. I'm just not getting my hopes up.

That's fair. It's just that the "ancient, dying Warden" reason is one that's been beaten to death. Believe me, I'm getting ready for the "I told you so"s if he doesn't end up a LI.

I don't go in other threads to state why I don't think <insert name here> will be a LI because... I don't know why some think we need to be told on a daily basis why they think Blackwall can't be.

 

It's a given that someone is going to lose out on the LI spot.  It's not known who, yet.  So let's all just continue to be respectful of others feelings and try to be happy with whatever happens and for the ones who get their prayers answered .   I know I will be sad if Blackwall is not romanceable but it won't dampen my enthusiasm for the game.

Plus, characters can die of things besides old age or the taint. Wouldn't it be ironic if fans made all this hype about Blackwall's antiquity only for somebody else to die of a burst blood vessel or getting hit by a dragon? Bethany and/or Carver can die in DA2, and neither of them is over 20 at the time.
