Sarcasm aside, I don't see why he can't be gay or bisexual.

If Blackwall is an LI I'd like to think that he'd be bisexual I'd like to think that the last two LIs will be bisexual. Assuming that they want to keep it even with number of choices with everyone making the last two LIs bisexual would make the most sense.

Plus, characters can die of things besides old age or the taint. Wouldn't it be ironic if fans made all this hype about Blackwall's antiquity only for somebody else to die of a burst blood vessel or getting hit by a dragon? Bethany and/or Carver can die in DA2, and neither of them is over 20 at the time.

 

That's very true! I just have to laugh- as someone who was recently diagnosed with a serious illness, I wonder if I should just dig a hole and jump in after reading this thread. 

 

Personally, I think there is value in a romance arc that says "no one is promised tomorrow, but at least we have today". If that's not a story Bioware wants to tell, fair enough. But it could be done really well...Bioware's writers would be up to the challenge, I think.

I quite agree, Miss Greyjoy! They haven't really done a romance that celebrates the moment, and this would be a good one, I think.

 

And good luck. As you say, nothing is certain, and not all outcomes are bad.

I know I will be sad if Blackwall is not romanceable but it won't dampen my enthusiasm for the game.

 

Unfortunately I have to admit that it will definitely dampen mine. The romances are a big part of why I love Dragon Age... I'm not ashamed of that; I've played lots of games in my time, including all the shooter types. But damn, those romances! 

 

If I can't find someone to fall in love with, or rather, a character, a pairing, and a romance arc to fall in love with, the game will just not be as enjoyable for me. I love other aspects of Dragon Age, definitely, and I'm looking forward to creating my character, meeting all the followers, and unraveling the story, but the romance is what does it for me. And Blackwall is my last hope.

Why do you say that? Right now the sexualities are evenly split. 

 

EDIT: By the way, I'm out of likes (it's my birthday today so I've spent them all "liking" well-wishers, haha! ) but a great big ole LIKE to all the positive posts before this one! I was late to join this fandom; I hung out and still hang out in the Cullen thread, where I've made amazing friends. But I migrated here a few months ago just b/c I was so curious about Blackwall, and it's been lovely

Don't misunderstand me.  I love the romances.  I have a million play throughs and if it weren't for knowing that I at least have Cullen, maybe I would be sorta sad.  I knew nothing of the choices for LI when I started DA2 and wasn't too thrilled with any of them.  But tried Anders AND fenris and ended up liking them both very much.  Fenris much more than I thought I would.  Oh, Fenris.  He snuck up on me. 

 

So in this game, maybe you will get lucky and someone will sneak up on you like Fenris snuck up on me

Hopefully My second (was my third) choice romance is Iron Bull; have a feeling his romance will be pretty cute with the inquisitor I've chosen for him!

Because honestly I have a feeling Bioware know what they're doing and for the first time straight males might actually have less options or something. I wouldn't be shocked if it went -

Males - Cassandra, Josephine, Iron Bull, Solas (race-gated if Blackwall isn't) and Dorian = 2 straight and 3 homosexual

Females - Iron Bull, Cullen (race-gated), Solas (race gated if Blackwall isn't), Blackwall (race gated somehow if Solas isn't), Josephine and Sera = 4 straight and 2 homosexual

Therefore straight males and lesbians will have the least options, Bioware has already noted the gender of the LI's may not necessarily be equal. I doubt they would say that unless unfortunately it wasn't.
