Agreed, it's called role playing for a reason. It's so you can be someone else, someone different then who you are. So why not right ? I guess some people are uncomfortable doing romances that go outside their own orientation. But it seems limiting to me.

If Blackwall isn't the last LI I think I'll be going with Dorian my first playthrough.

I go Bull my first time, it will be so virginal and at the end i will know the meaning o life. I will go Qunari or Human   :P so i can keep  my dignity the day after

I don't like playing a female and I don't like romancing females. It's just not enjoyable to me. It's great for people that enjoy playing all types of characters and romances, but it's not for me.

I agree with Mortem. I think it doens't make sense to force yourself to play something that you really don't like. As for me, I like playing lesbian and gay relationships. But it just doesn't feel right to me to play heterosexual romances. I did it certain times (with Morrigan, Alistar and Sebastian), but I really didn't like it. Couldn't bring myself to enjoy it. Tht's why I'm really happy that I'm not forced to engage in those relationships in Bioware games.

I'm not saying to force yourself. If you don't enjoy something you shouldn't do it. I guess I can't really talk since I'm bi. It makes sense that I don't really mind romancing whoever.

Well, I mean, it's kind of like saying not being bisexual limits yourself. It's basically true that you are limited, but it's not an optional thing. It would be great if everyone was bi, I think. I mean, I'm saying that as someone who isn't. But you do miss a lot of opportunities by being limited in physical attraction to only one gender. That's half the population off the table. But people like what they like, you know? It's not that I want to not enjoy playing as a female or romancing females. It would be cool if I did, but I just don't. I can't make it change, it is what it is.

Not that I'm saying you have to actually be bi to make bi characters, I'm just using it as an example of unchangeable likes/dislikes.

If you had said that a year ago I would have agreed with everything. I have so many male characters on hiatus, I just can't bring myself to play them. I'm way more invested when I'm playing female characters because of how rare female protagonists are. But then Dorian came along and now I'm so excited for my male Inquisitor!

Might as well come out and say it. I've never actually done a complete same sex playthrough. Not because of some bigoted reason, I just never really liked my options. I was never that big a fan of Leliana and Liara. I love Isabela but I have an Anders problem in DA2, same goes for Traynor. I can't bring myself to turn down Garrus for her. But I always figured my canon warden was bi, she went with Bella to her cabin and she loved it.

Totally understand that, sexual orientation will never be a choice for anyone.

If everyone was supposed to have at least 2 LI options since the get-go then that means before Iron Bull got "fixed".
...

Chart aside, you're right.  Why didn't we think of this sooner?  Thank you, IAmVim!  There's only one option left for a bisexual male LI, since the romances were already written by the time Bull's was announced.  Much easier to remove a restriction than to put one in as well, so he's probably not gated either.  Cautious optimism might be in order.

Cautious optimism is always the way to go. It hurts less.

But yeah, there was also a little teasing at the pax panels. The "Soon.." tweet. We might just get lucky guys. But we need to wait it out and see what happens.

Nice thing of only planning out one Inquisitor with an already confirmed thing... Less stress and more optimism!

As I've always said, I find it very difficult to imagine a Dragon Age game without a Chee-mance among the companions she is writing for.  Just as I'd find it difficult to imagine a DA game without a Gaider-mance among his companion childrens.  It's a DA staple in my mind.

Hold so we have 3 straight, 2 gay, 2 bisexual. so i guess a third would even it out. but guys iron bull was always supposed to be bisexual, he was just supposed to be race gated.

And the dev's said from a long times ago it wouldn't be equal. some races and orientations wouldn't have as many options as the other. They said that a long time ago.

I wish they'd just say it, I mean its not like they are keeping the romances secret (which in all honesty i wish they were) so they should just tell us, as if they were yanking a band-aid off. short 'n sweet and to the point.

I agree that it's unwise to get hopes up unrealistically, but look at what's being said.

Everyone will have 2 choices.  Some race/gender combinations wouldn't have as many choices as others.

There will be two choices for everyone.  If some race/gender choices have more, they get a bonus, but everyone still gets two.  If Bull had been gated for size, players wishing to play an inquisitor romancing a male LI would only have 2 if they were willing to play as a non-dwarf.  Solas being a bonus LI for female elven inquisitors doesn't really count, since that's pretty restrictive.

They're saying some race/gender combinations will have more than 2 choices, not less.

Please don't take this that i'm saying you are wrong, but i would like to read the sources so i can just have that knowledge.

And they said at gGaymer con when announcing Iron Bull, they said that romances weren't fair, And it's too early to say anything really, hell we could learn Dorian was gated (which is hard to believe) just at this time its between Viv and Blackwall, and they're 4 male romances at the time, and 3 female. so if they are going to make it fair, it will be Viv.

I've decided if I romance Blackwall it will be as a young-ish male Dwarf in a subsequent playthrough (I've already got playthroughs planned for Bull, Dorian and Sera lol), I really hope he is a romance option and gay or bisexual.

Ah, so others take the 'disappointed' quote negatively as well x_x. I hope we find out today, this is not hype of any kind, it's just frustrating and it's making me sad :(

What would also be frustrating, despite it making sense number wise, is that Vivienne had zero hints of being a romance and if she is a romance then it'd come out of nowhere (except to even out the male/female ratio). Bah, I'm just making myself anxious.

Yeah, I wish they'd just hint dropped for Viv the whole time. Would've kept everyone's expectations much lower.

I agree it was really unnecessary to drag this whole dilemma with LI's out they should have told us much sooner before people already picked their

favourites and gained hope now (like with Solas who no one expected to be that restricted) people will be pissed

Instead we should be talking about the story, the CC, the classes etc.

This is nothing if not miserable. The marketing team makes me feel like they're focusing on causing controversy rather than caring about the players because of all the waiting and waiting. I feel unloved :(.

Either don't tell us anything, or tell us everything at the same time when it comes to romances. Building false hopes, nurturing them and breeding optimism with the knowledge you will destroy it with just a sentence is really uncool. Evil even. /rant

Exactly. I find I can't really get excited about any of that at this point and it's frustrating. All my friends who have already been assured of getting their chosen LI are all excited and eager for each new aspect of the game that gets revealed, and I'm just left here in the dark twiddling my thumbs, a nice little bundle of nerves, wondering if I'll even bother buying the game the day it's released.
